Windows 7 And Bios Can't Find Drives, Even While PC Running

Aug 6, 2012

So my system (updated specs in my profile) has been running perfectly since first built in January.Saturday, a Steam update came out. Ever since then, I have had major problems. It starts with the entire system totally freezing and occasionally BSOD.If I reset (hardware reset button), then bios can't find any of my hard drives (two different SATA channels), but it can usually find the DVD (also SATA). Sometimes it will hang on the drive part of boot up. (ACHI mode is enabled.)If I do a cold boot (hardware off, wait 15 seconds, then on), then it boots and runs fine. for about an hour, maybe two... then the above happens again. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, games, surfing, or not even at my computer. I did notice that the drives were running much slower than normal, so I updated the Intel Response Time thing (whatever you call it). That greatly improved drive response and boot time. But it did not cure the crashes.Other than verifying all the case wires were firmly connected, I haven't had time to do anything else.I can't imagine how a software update (Steam) could frack up my bios or my mb, but that is the only thing that has changed between running perfectly to totally unstable.

I'm planning to uninstall steam and reinstall.I'm not confident that will help if the update has caused another problem.I don't know if it's Windows 7, Steam, hardware, or a bios issue.

IDE Drives Problem - Not Seen Is The BIOS

Aug 13, 2009

I just installed the new Windows 7. Until I deconnected my second HDD, a 120 GB IDE does not wanted to install. Now when is installed, I reconnected the second HDD. When turn on the windows, it´s not seen and my second DVD-RW, which is IDE also is not seen.

Also none of those 2 is not seen is the BIOS. At startup it hangs 30-40 seconds, freezing, before displaying BIOS Post message notes.

Before Windows 7 I had Vista and all was working fine.

What can I do? Please, a hint to sove that.

Bios Not Detecting Any Sata Drives?

Aug 7, 2012

My pc had suddenly decided to not recognising any of my Sata drives. Win 7 32 bit, 4 gig ram, asus psn d motherboard, ati sapphire 1g pci card, 1 250g western digital Sata drive 1 x 1tb seagate hdd. Sata DVD drive

Yesterday my pc froze up while surfing the web, so reset it and that where the problems started

It only recognised one of the hdd then wouldn't boot got a bsod uncountable boot volume. So opened up the case to check if the cables where loose, nope, so decided to run a repair via the recovery console. Didnt detect my o/s at all ask me to install the correct drivers grrrrr. So stripped the pc down swapped the Sata cables to see if that was the problem, no joy at all would only find one Sata drive and DVD drive. Then it wouldnt recognise any of them, so swapped out the Sata DVD drive for an IDE drive. The booted up nothing bar the DVD drive. Have now come to a cross roads don't know what else's to try. Managed to boot via a USB drive with Linux and everything system wise, pcu, gpu etc works, but still no Sata drives.

Done some digging online and some ideas are not a big enough psu, faulty Sata cables, but swapped in an IDE hdd and nothing again.

BIOS Not Recognising / Displaying Drives?

Jun 16, 2011

i recently invested in a new PC - for my job i use high volumes of data so need a high end database setup for fast access to info - to do this i have invested in two SSD hard drives that i am hoping to run in a RAID array and these are completely dedicated to my database. So after alot of work i have my machine up and running, it has a 60GB SSD for running windows 7 64-bit home prem. on, 2x120GB SSDs that will run my database and a 1TB SATA HD for storing whatever else i have on. Now the part i am having real trouble with is configuring the RAID array, firstly in the BIOS main menu i dont see the 3 SSD drives:-However the drives all show up in the windows disk management window. Back in the BIOS, when i enter the SATA config. menu, i find that ports 1-4 are grouped together (currently set to AHCI), and it is possible to switch them into a RAID array but this is no good b/c it means my 60GB boot drive wont operate correctly - i cant seem to find a way for switching the individual ports to RAID, mainly since the ports arent listed individually?

another thing that i am unsure about is the way the drives are listed in the boot menu - they show up listed as IDE's although in the SATA config menu they are listed as AHCI controlled - i am unsure but think this may be a glitch with the BIOS for this motherboard where it doesnt update changes properly.

Cant Find Any Disk Drives?

Nov 9, 2011

have used ATI for a long time with no problems on various machines, including my Windows 7 Ultimate, x86 computer. this machine has a WD black caviar sata lll 500gig hdd, but is connected on sata ll (mobo doesn't support sata lll). have just got a new machine which is running windows 7 ultimate x64. it has the same hdd as the machine mentioned above, but is connected as sata lll on the mobo. ATI told me that it couldn't find any disk drives, so i couldn't back up the hdd. i discovered that WD put out their own version of ATI, so i downloaded it, installed it and made a recovery cd. this gives me the same error that it cant find any disk drives so i still cant back up the hdd. didn't see why but thought it may be the o/c settings, i reverted back to stock but no difference. windows backup works, but produces a hell of a big file compared to ATI.

Can't Find Drives During Installation -- Bootmgr Is Missing

Nov 7, 2012

I purchased a vizio all in one desktop model CA24-A2 , with windows 7 installed. I upgraded it to windows 8, but decided to return back to windows 7 because the Metro UI always crashes on me. I purchased a windows 7 disc and booted the computer off the disc. When the installation asks which drive to install it to, nothing appears. For some reason, the installation disc is not reading the drives. I've checked vizio's page, but didn't find any drivers for the hard drive that would work. I check the Bios menu and both drives appear. I've read on other forum about changing the bios mode (AHCI,IDE), but my bios menu is very restricted, and i dont have that option available. I used MiniTool Partition wizard on a bootable cd, and it was able to see my hard drives as well. I added some pictures below. When i try to boot windows with windows 8, "bootmgr is missing" error appears. After restarting my computer several times it seems i only have access to the bios menu f2, and not f8 for recovery.

Bios Clock Time Changes After Every Restart Even After Replacing Bios

Aug 23, 2011

I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.

I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.

I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
