Crawling Speed Task Manager Shows 100% CPU Usage
May 14, 2012I've got this problem 2 days ago where my PC started slowing down and i've been getting random BSODs mainly "Special Pools Detected etc & Memory Management" When i start up the PC its slow and it takes alot longer to just open even a folder. I've tried searching for such problems and i've tried almost everything i know to try and fix this but i guess i'm still in-experienced when it comes to problems like this.It happened 2 days ago after i played an online game i got a BSOD and couldn't remember what it was. So i restarted and the problem started. The most recent hardware change was that i changed my RAM from 4gb to 8gb and nothing else. I did not install any new programs recently. So initially i thought it might be the RAM causing this problem so i changed it back to the ones i had previously. Here are the specs of my PC. [code]
Anyway i've scanned the PC using Avira, Spybot & Avast and there were 0 findings so i hope i am right to assume that my computer has not been infected with malware/spyware. But still in the task manager, the CPU Usage % and Memory Usage shoots up whenever i do any sort of action, eg. Refresh on the desktop, Opening a folder, Opening the browser etc. I've tried booting into safe mode. And the CPU usage was minimal compared to normal but i couldn't detect what was causing this problem. In the task manager, explorer.exe & svchost.exe were the top memory users. I've tried msconfig, disabled all the startups, but still i am having the same problem.

Now to the actual problem. The reason I bought all this RAM was so that the computer would run faster and more smoothly. Despite the large amount of memory, however, I still experience frequent spikes in CPU Usage, which I have learned is not related to RAM very much if at all. Regardless, I would still assume that my system wouldn't have to overexert itself to run simple tasks like Windows Explorer (i.e., folders, desktop and taskbar) or the Task Manager itself.
Either of these tasks, as well as others such as "System," "svchost," or "File I/O Surrogate" (none of which I know much about) can spike to anywhere from 30-70% of the CPU without warning, and when it does, the total CPU Usage ends up being 100, which REALLY makes my laptop sluggish and unresponsive.
I understand that RAM does not directly impact CPU Usage, but I would also assume that, since my laptop isn't ancient, that its CPU shouldn't struggle to display my folders/desktop/taskbar, or to run the Task Manager itself. I also run a daily virus check with Symantec Anti-Virus, so I don't think infection is the issue. In addition to that, I monitor memory usage alongside CPU usage, and the memory usage never goes higher than 10.5 (it usually hovers around 6-8) or so GB of my available 16-- insufficient RAM is also probably not the problem.
When Checked In Task Manager, CPU Usage Remains At 100% Or Close After Booting?
Mar 7, 2012lies with a Acer Laptop equiped with a AMD Athlon 64 running Windows seven premium. Computer recently started acting slow after a Kaspersky Virus scan and virus removal. When checked in task manager, CPU usage remains at 100% or close after booting. Just simply trying to open any folder takes forever and CPU usage shoots and remains at 100%. The tricky thing for me is that Under processes, the calculation of processes being used doesn't add up to usually more that 20%, however cpu usage shows 100%. There are no inividual process that is being showed that is utilizing the processor. Virus scan, ccleaner, Malwarebytes and super antispyware doesn't show any active threats. Msconfig set to boot only the essential services doesn't fix. Safe mood work fine, so I kinda thinking it isn't a hardware issue

Mar 7, 2009I have a system running XP. I partitioned my drive in half and installed Windows 7. I tried to start XP again and messed it up. I think it's trying to use XPs boot manager. Do I need to re-install 7 to use it's boot manager?
Now that I know this .iso works great, I want to put 7 on a partition on my main Vista system. I can't afford to lose everything like I did on the XP system. When I tried to start XP after installing 7 I got an error. "windows root system32 hal.dll is missing or corrupt"
I can't have that happening to my main system. Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? Will it happen to Vista?
Compressed Boot Manager In Windows 7
May 13, 2010when we compress the disk space entirely by going to my computer --> right click on the c: drive icon ---> properties ---> compress disk drive, the compression utility in win 7 accidently may compress the boot manager files that include the file bootsect.bak and the boot folder also . when the computer is restarted the machine hangs up and says "boot manager is compressed " and shuts down .at the prompt type notepad (since the recovery option boots from a seperate wim image it has notepad built into it ) press ctrl + o which invokes the open file dialog go to the open file field (ALT+N) and type c:oot and also see for the c:ootmgr file. right click it and deselect the option of "compress files to save disk space" when we apply the boot manager is again decompressed. also if someone finds this harder we can directly deselect the compression option by reversing the process used to compress the drive thats it . we are done

I installed Windows 7 over XP, so I was not expecting that every time I now turn on Windows 7 computer I always get the windows boot manager and have to choose Windows 7 to continue booting up. Is there a way to fix that so it does not come up anymore and just starts up on its own. I realize that even if I do not click it, it is already highlighted and will start up on its own after the countdown is done, but I was wanting to know if there was a way to fix that altogether.
Should also mention that on msconfig and boot menu, the only one listed is the Windows 7 OS system and is default.
Windows 7 Boot Manager Comes Up Even After Reinstall
Sep 9, 2010I recently installed Windows 7 professional and had some problems with my first install, so I decided to reinstall. In the course of getting everything working on the the second install the Windows Boot Manager comes up everytime I turn on the computer.
It is very strange because: I have only Windows 7 installed on my computer and no other OS. The only selection is one instance of Windows 7 (I know sometimes when you reinstall the same OS will be listed twice, this is not the case for me) there is no countdown timer to automatically start windows. I have to press the enter key or it just stays there. Other than that, windows 7 is working fine for me. It is very annoying since I sometimes leave the computer after I turn it on and when I'm back it still is on the Boot Manager.
These are the things I have tried to get it working: I've went to msconfig-->Boot Tab and looked to see if there was a more than one OS listed. There is only one instance of Windows 7 listed. I went to my computer properties-->advanced system settings-->advanced and set the boot manager to not run, but it still comes up even after I change this setting I also tried reinstalling windows 7 twice. Once with just formatting the partition. Once with deleting the partition and recreating it before the install.

Oct 3, 2009I have installed Windows 7 on my MSI Wind Netbook using a new Seagate 320gb sata drive and every time I power on, Windows Boot Manager loads and I have to select Windows 7 as the OS even though it's the only OS that has been installed. The first time I installed I let Windows 7 create the partitions but I thought that might have been the problem because of the 100mb system drive it created so I deleted everything, made 2 partitions and installed Windows 7 on the active partition but still it boots into Boot Manager. I've been into msconfig and Windows 7 is the only OS and there is no delay set but still it persists. I've also tried EasyBCD but it made no difference either. The ONLY time it doesn't boot to Boot Manager is if I have the external USB DVD drive connected with the Windows 7 disk inserted... then it says press any key to boot from CD/DVD which I ignore and Windows 7 loads normally.

Sep 19, 2012My friend has an HP Presario notebook which she is having trouble with and asked me to take a look at it.In short, its Win 7 x64 Home Premium with 2GB RAM and an Intel Celeron CPU (i forget which model of CPU).Unit boots fine, and logs on, but what struck me was it was very very slow. brought up task manager and checked the performance tab and the CPU was fluctuating between a relatively low level of 4% - 10% but sometimes did shoot up to 50% - to be honest, with it being a Celeron I kinda figured this could be "normal" as its not exactly a brilliant chip. - other opinions welcomed on that pointHowever, the Memory usage as up at 1.35GB and continued to rise to 1.89GB - the machine only has 2GB of RAM and it literally took about 10 minutes to do anything.
I did the usual, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan - found nothing - Removed the rubbish Norton and installed MS Security Essentials - scanned - found nothing.Removed any and all of the HP Cackware and anything else that looked odd. The finally I removed a lot of rubbish from the MSCONFIG.Rebooted the machine and checked Task Manager again - this time, instead of 88 processes running, I only had 63 running - but yet again, RAM usage was up at 1.35GB. The HDD is not full and has plenty of space.So I felt stumpedDid some reading online and set the value to 1 in the registry.After changing the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value, when I booted back into Windows, the RAM usage was down to 837MB and fluctuated upto abour 1.3GB thought I had sussed it. So one more time I ran MS Security essentials for one last scan - it again found no issue but immediateley after doing this, the RAM usage shot right back upto 1.89GB and above and the problem instantly returned.

I'm dual booting vista ultimate with win 7 build 7100; with vista I have no problem, but with 7 every time I start the system the first boot attempt gives me the error 0xc000000e after the boot manager display: "the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible".;after a reset the system boots 7 with no problems. Win 7 is installed in a brand new hd(seagate barracuda 1.5tb) and vista on a second hd.
I've search the web for people with a similar problem with no success. I've tryed already many solutions but the problem persists(latest bios for the motherboard, latest intel sata drivers, etc). I'm hoping that this could be a bug in win 7 instead of a hardware failure for the hd. Again, the strange thing is that this only happen after the power on. After that first error, no matter how many reboots, the system always boot without problems.

Oct 2, 2012I am trying to install Win 7 Ultimate x64 on my roommates laptop. It was having severe issues booting into 7 already so I decided to just wipe it and re-install. I started with a DVD copy and upon boot he realized that his DVD drive was broke. FML. But we can boot from USB so I go buy a large flashdrive and DL a copy of Windows 7 and make it boot-able. So I plug it in and when it starts to load windows files it makes it about 10% and stops.
Then throws an error 0xc00000e9. "An unexpected I/O error has occurred".
Now I know my USB is good, I just bought it. The DVD Drive is messed up but its not being used in any way. It's an older Sony vaio, Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram, the model is burnt off the bottom.
Windows 7 Boot Manager - File Cannot Be Recognized
Nov 10, 2012Recently I changed the boot logo/screen on my computer to a custom one. When I got tired of it and wanted to change it back, I googled how I could restore it. Running the CMD as admin and typing "bcdedit %WinDir% /l en-US" would restore it back to its original boot logo. I tried it and then restarted my computer as instructed. As soon as it starts to boot up I get a message from the "Windows Boot Manager" telling me that there is a file that cannot be recognized: "windows/system32/winload.exe" My drivers for my keyboard are out of date apparently as I cant press "enter" to continue. It told me i could alternatively insert my windows 7 disc and restart. I inserted that disc and restarted and the same screen comes up.
