Don't know why, but when I try and drag a window to the top of my screen to 'maximize' it, Windows 7 will minimize it to the bottom of the screen instead - where just the title bar is showing.

I use the IE browser. Although I have it set on maxim window size, all my web sites initially come on reduced size and I have to click on the maximizing window. Anyone know how to have max window sizes all the time?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenver I maximize a window it goes across all three screens, now that is okay for video games but not so much for the internet or other programs. Whenever I open a program it is opened very small and I have to manually adjust to windows to each screen, and it kind of gets annoying.So is there a way that I can change a setting or something that when I maximize my window it will only maximize on the screen that I have the window open on?I am running Windows 7 btw.

I've had this problem for a while where occasionally when I boot up my laptop (Dell XPS), the windows would maximize and minimize in slow motion and all my games run in slow motion. A restart usually fixes the problem.I've looked for solutions in the past but the problem always comes back. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the problem is or how to fix it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn occasion, when FF7 has been maximize, the Windows 7 taskbar (locked and set to autohide) can not be brought up with a hovering cursor. To get it back while in max screen, I have to fiddle around with minimizing and maximizing while bringing up the taskbar when it is visible...a real PITA, eh? Although I have researched this problem and have found out it goes back at least 5 years, I have yet to see a solution?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've recently encountered a strange thing while playing ME3 on my Windows 7 laptop. I'm a big fan of the series and I've played 1 and 2 with no problems at all. However, there's an issue going with ALT+Tabbing. I know some games are not meant to work this way but that is a really strange case. I could minimize Mass Effect 1, the full window restoration would take some time though. I could also minimize ME2 and restore it in mere seconds. Mass Effect 3, I just can't restore it. It stays on the taskbar, I can click it endlessly but it won't come up. And right when I thought this is a one-game issue, I accidentally tried again and it worked. I could minimize/restore Mass Effect 3 in a couple seconds. But it only worked this one time.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWith widescreen monitors, which are pretty much the standard these days, there is always plenty of horizontal space, it's the vertical space that is at more of a premium. To take advantage of this I've done 2 things - First, I moved my taskbar to the left side of the screen, this gives me that much more vertical space in all programs.
The second thing is program-specific. I use Firefox and I certainly spend more time in it than any other program. I've installed 2 two add-ons, Vertical Bookmarks Toolbar and Compact Menu. They do just what their names imply - the first places my bookmarks toolbar to the left (or right, if you prefer) of the screen, the second compacts my entire Menu toolbar to a small icon that sits in the upper-left corner of the address bar. Getting rid of these 2 horz menu bars gives one a nice little chunk of additional real estate. It takes a bit getting used to, but once you do, it's great.
As of about 3 days ago my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit) fails to boot up. It gets to the initial Windows screen before the login screen and freezes, then sends me into Startup Repair. [code] I've tried running the diagnostics and get no error codes. I've tried restore points, memory diagnostics.. pretty much everything except factory image, with no success. I have a lot of government programs installed on this laptop, so.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy wife did something on her PC (she doesn't know exactly for sure what & can't explain it completely me), and now she can't boot up her PC. She says it had something to do with changing the security settings for a program she uses a lot so it wouldn't keep asking her if she wanted to launch it, and that's when it told her to restart the PC, then it wouldn't boot up anymore.When you reboot, the screen eventually goes to a black screen saying "Windows failed to start. A software or hardware error may be the cause" or something to that effect. It offers me the option to "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally".If I Launch Startup Repair, nothing much happens --- it says it's adding files, then it looks like Windows is about to boot up, then it goes to a black screen for a long time & nothing happens.
If I choose Start Windows Normally, it simply reboots & eventually brings me back to the same screen again.I've tried using rebooting and selecting ESC to get to the boot menu, then installing the Win 7 installation disc & selecting the DVD drive, then I select thelanguage, then I click Repair, but it sits there forever with nothing happening.I also tried an outside boot disc I found on the web & it doesn't launch.
My son has a Toshiba Satelite P205 that he just upgraded from Windows XP Home Premium to Windows 7 32-bit. After the upgrade completed the computer booted fine. The within 20 minutes he got the BSOD and the system rebooted. Now he can't get Windows to fully start. We've tried all of the options from F8 with no success. We have the Toshiba System Recovery Disk but it won't launch. (The Boot sequence has been changed to boot from CD/DVD and then the Hard Drive.)The Memory Diagnostic from the Windows 7 disk ran fine with no errors. I'm thinking I might need to re-format/wipe the drive to start fresh but don't know where to obtain a boot CD(no floppy drive on this laptop). Does anyone recommend a software that I can purchase to clear everything without destroying the CD/DVD accessibility so I can then use the System Recovery Disk to put it back to the original factory Settings?

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently, my computer starts up windows and after the loading screen it just sits at a black screen forever with a cursor and it doesn't even make it to the log in screen. I have tried safe mode with the same results. What I've Done So FarTried to Repair Startup with Windows DVD Tried to use sfc /scannow at boot (Says pending changes and needs to restart) Tried logging into my Ubuntu partition and virus scanning (None found) Tried copying Reg Files from Regback into config while I was in Linux Tried to Repair Install (But I can't log into Windows ) Tried to bootrec /fixmbr /fixbot /RebuildBcd (Which destroyed my dual boot linux grub, but I was desperate. And still nothing) Interestingly though, after I do /RebuildBcd command it says something like "Found Windows Installations: 0" Tried to System Restore (Gave me an Error, wouldn't you know) At this point I'm not to confident that this can be fixed. If anyone has any ideas I'm willing to try. Or if you have any snazzy suggestions on how I could fix it using another computer, I have a different Windows Pro x64 computer that I can put the HD in if there's someway I can save my data/fix it/repair install from there. I just don't know how.
Edit: I finished the chkdsk and there were no bad sectors, though it did give me a message "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50."I did a Windows Defender Offline scan with no viruses and I'm currently scanning with Kaspersky Rescue disk. I don't believe it is a virus, I think it's a corruptregistry at this point. I had just cleaned my registry with CCleaner before the shutdown that led to this >.<
i recently just installed a clean install of windows 7(instead of a upgrade from my vista.i got the free upgrade),now everything works fine expect when after the windows 7 splash occurs there is about a 10 second delay were the screen is just black with a cursor.

I got a message saying something crashed and if this was the first time I saw it I just needed to reboot my computer. I proceeded to do so and then I got the mysterious black screen with movable cursor hanging scenario. I booted up the advanced boot menu and went to repair computer to "Last Known Good Configuration" and since then it boots up to passed the windows loading screen to a stock windows 7 screen and it flashes about every seven seconds with the cursor blinking to loading something back to idle. It hangs here until I turn it off. I have had this happen before and fixed it with bootrec.exe but I can't seem to get that to work this time. Safe mode has the exact same black screen problem.I have done chkdsk and sfc scannow - Didn't fix it.When I boot into Kaspersky Rescue from a USB drive it mentions that I need to shut down windows properly before continuing. I would like to do this but I can't.I have tried changing the active partition on information in some of these other threads - It didn't seem to work.All disks are healthy according to the DISKPART and Partition Wizard. I have done the HP hardware diagnostic scans and everything comes up fine.

My PC has a black screen on wake up more times than not. Wake up is set for a login screen normally. My settings are screen saver after 10 mins then send screen to sleep in 20 mins, no hibernation mode, rest machine remains alive, runs 24/7 normally.
I have swapped the power supply and graphics card with ones that work in the same model PC and no joy.
Does anyone know what folder holds the screen saver options when you click Windows 7 Pro screen saver in that option when you right click the nesk top and choose personalize.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue of HDMI working during PC boot, but TV loses signal just before Windows 7 log in screen comes up (TV shows "No Signal" at this point). If I use VGA to connect PC to TV, everything works fine. [code] One thing I noticed is that Windows 7 device manager sees my TV as a "Generic PNP Monitor". I have no idea if this is connected to my issue or not. The Intel website says my drivers are up to date when I run their update utility. The Intel Graphics utility on my PC sees my TV as a monitor, not as a TV, but it does list the correct model # (M260MV).I've tried connecting both the TV with HDMI and a PC Monitor with the VGA cable and the computer would only detect the PC monitor with the VGA cable.I have read on an Intel site that others with the Core i3 CPU had similar problems so this may be a CPU/CPU driver issue, but as I said, the Intel Update Utility says my drivers are up to date.
