View 1 Replies View Relatedi set up an OU in AD that contains shortcuts to various shares on various servers. instead of having 10+ shortcut icons on their desktops, my w2k users could access all network shortcuts from one shortcut. plus, when the location of a share moves to a different server, i don't have to delete old shortcuts and create new ones on 30+ desktops. in xp, the directory icon went away so i couldn't create a shortcut to the OU. i discovered copying the dsfolder.dll icon to xp fixed the problem. can a desktop shortcut to an OU be achieved in Windows 7?

When I run C:WindowsSystem32Ping.exe /? at an Adminstrator's command prompt, it runs fine. If I copy this .exe to X:Tempping.exe (X: is on the same hard drive on the same computer), it will not run at an Adminstrator's command prompt. The file on X: has full permissions. I am running Norton Internet Security.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased my PC components which include a Corsair 60GB Force Series SSD to use as a boot and application drive. In order to maximize the free space on the SSD I want to move the User Directory from the SSD to the HDD. After looking into this I have found numerous articles which suggest numerous ways to accomplish this.Nearly all of them have people saying that it may cause this or that to go wrong. So what options do I really have? Which method is best (on the list, or found elsewhere)? Is it even worth it (i.e. how much space does the user directory really use)?

This PC is attached to a network containing several desktops and laptops running Vista. The Samsung laser printer ML-2240 is attachde by USB to this XP PC. Printing over the network operates perfectly with all other PCs. I have just purchased an Acer laptop with Windows 7 and followed the instructions for file sharing, which works perfectly. I have followed the instructions for installing the printer, and received confirmation that it is installed. However, when I attempt to print out of Word 2007 and press the button "find printer" in the Samsung printer profile I get the message "Active Directory Main Services is currently unavailable". I see that this has been found over the years by many people! I am looking for a solution in my context. The rest of the network operates fine still and I can edit the same Word file over the network and print fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a USB Harddrive.
I wish to share a directory on it, but when I tried through the share menu, or by clicking on 'share this' in Windows Explorer, Windows 7 told me that 'This folder can't be shared'. When I tried the advanced sharing settings, I get an error telling me that 'there are no more endpoints available from an endpoint mapper'.
Other directories, on my internal HDD, are already shared fine, and a quick test confirmed that further shares from the C drive also work. I am on Win 7 Home Premium and connect to a router via ethernet cable.
I have two computers, 1 running Windows 7 and 1 running Windows XP. We'll call them 7 and XP.
Never computer can see shared files or directory even through both have it turned on through the "Network ICON"
So here is the spin
If I type Computername on 7 I can see all my shared directory and files (with access to copy them over without a problem) Same on XP
I've even installed the printer that is on XP onto 7 (although it's can't seem to actually print at this time)
Based on the fact that I can type computer name and get access on both computers I would imagine all my settings are correcct... but like my spelling.. something must be off
Any ideas?
Both computers can access the internet
I recently bought a new Asus K53e which had Win 7 Home Premium installed and it was in 64bit. I wanted a ultimate version so i installed that. It was working perfectly but then i went to drive c and saw program files x86 and i didnt i was confused because i didnt want it. I havent touched that folder but then i started researching on how to make all my softwares get installed into the 64bit (Program Files) so sevenforums and other sites told me to go to regedit and change the programfiledir to the one you want so i just removed the (x86) and saved it. I also change Program W6432Dir, ProgramFilesDir (x86), and ProgramFilesDir to just C:Program Files (Value Data). So then i installed adobe cs6 master collection and some programs failed to start. I got the message: C:Program Files (x86)adobeadobe dreamweaver cs6dreamweaver.exe The specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try again. So now this has happened to adobe cs6 master collects ( some of them like dreamweaver ) and some other softwares.I also forgot what the original ProgramFilesDir, ProgramW6432Dir and ProgramFilesDir (x86) was set to.
