This PC is attached to a network containing several desktops and laptops running Vista. The Samsung laser printer ML-2240 is attachde by USB to this XP PC. Printing over the network operates perfectly with all other PCs. I have just purchased an Acer laptop with Windows 7 and followed the instructions for file sharing, which works perfectly. I have followed the instructions for installing the printer, and received confirmation that it is installed. However, when I attempt to print out of Word 2007 and press the button "find printer" in the Samsung printer profile I get the message "Active Directory Main Services is currently unavailable". I see that this has been found over the years by many people! I am looking for a solution in my context. The rest of the network operates fine still and I can edit the same Word file over the network and print fine.

"MMC could not create the snap-in"
Anybody get this working?
I've googled to no avail
I've tried the Vista fix, registering a bunch of DLLs, but that didn't fix it.
I have installed active directory with Server 2003.I have created backup of active directory since a computer (XP) being on the domain. How to restore the backup to AD, since the computer (Xp)?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFixing my elderly father's Windows 7/64 desktop. Attempting to print form MS Word to an HP3390 does not give any errors but does not print, either. Attempting to "find printer" from MS Word gives "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable." I went to services.msc to turn on that service but it does not appear in the list. Driver for the printer is already included in Windows 7, according to the HP support site. Printer is USB connected directly to the computer.
BTW Computer is running MW Word 2003 if that makes any difference.
My assignment is to develop a batch file that our logon script can call on to satisfy the following condition:
If the User Information for Office 2010(HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo) equals the local admin default "UserInfo" then
go to ldap/active directory and, using the client's "logon name", find the client in ldap and use their "Display Name" as the value for the String "UserName" in HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo I found this bit of code to get me started... but this code doesn't "call out to active directory"
reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo /v UserName /d %username% /f
I'm having an issue setting up a Mail Enabled Public Folder. I have the folder created, and anonymous are given proper access to allow incoming messages. My Exchange version is 2010 SP1, full updated, running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Whenever I send a message to the mailbox's address, I get an undeliverable:(url)...#554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn't found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn't found. ##
I know the e-mail address is typed in correctly, but I can't seem to figure out why messages aren't going through. I searched online and found some suggestions, all of which either didn't pertain to our environment, or involved patches...which I have installed.
I have encounter a problem where my "Active directory users and computer" function suddenly unable to connect to my remote server. I have run a nslookup and below are the reply
C:>nslookup
Default Server: Unknown
Address: 10.10.2.6
I confirm it is not the next work issue because in the same network there is few more PC running windows 7 and XP, they don't have the problem as I mention. I also have a virtual XP running in the notebook that I am using, So I try to install the adminpak and run the Active directory users and computer and what a surprise it work. I have try to reformat the notebook and the problem still occur after I use it...
I tired of reformatting. Update on the troubleshooting of the problem I am encountering, I find out that the windows 7 that I am running is not able to resolve any PC name on my network. I am mentioning this because went I am using the virtual machine install in the notebook (Win XP) to remote desktop to other PC using the desktop name it is working fine.
I m having problem accessing a specific software while log in to my PC under Active Directory domain user. This software works file while work as administrator but show run time error 75 , path/file access error.

I can't get any write or change access on the USB drive folders or files. It complains that I don't have administrator control, however I am logged in as administrator. How can I take ownership & change permissions on this drive?

View 18 Replies View RelatedI know similar questions have been asked but I "might" have a unique one. What I have been trying to do is to copy the "C:Users", "C:Program Files", & "C:Program Files (x86)" to another clean hard drive "D:".I'm doing this to make more room for the OS in the C: drive while date will be in the D: drive. Now I have successfully robocopy Program Files & Program Files (x86). I also have copied most of the Users directory but for this stubborn Realupdate directory. This is I think the real player program. I get this Access Denied and "Error 5" error. I am in elevated command prompt. I achieved this via the Repair your computer prompt on the Windows install DVD.I also have rmdir for Program Files & Program Files and have made a mklink for both of them so windows knows where they will be. But I have not did a full boot because I don't think windows will access my Users directory because they have been moved over to the new drive. What I can only do will have to be via the command prompt.
I can't make a mklink for Users because I get an error saying something about duplicate areas? What I was trying to do is go to this Realupdate directory but even trying to access that directory via cd commands will not work, giving me a access denied. Again I am in elevated command prompt Administrator:X:windowssystem32cmd.exe How can I get to that directory. I just want to delete it now since I have all the files I need. I just want to create a junction point for Users directory linked to the D: drive. I used the following command: mklink "D:Users" C:Users" /JGrant it the D and C are turned around but in Windows Recovery Console it mixes up the drive letters but I know what is the source drive and destination drive. I verified this via the Volume Drive Titles.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am just checking before I do it if the steps are correct.
Q: Why am I doing this?
A: I have both retail versions of Windows 7 x32 and x64 and need to install both on one HDD, I have two unique keys also. This is used for my work machine for software testing.
I have a single SATA 250GB HDD which is a new HDD, completely un-used.
The steps I think are correct are as follows;
* Insert Windows 7 x32 into drive and proceed with setup.
* Click advanced drive options and click New, create the first partition 50% of my full HDD space.
* Click New and create the 2nd partition with the same size as previous.
* Install Windows onto Partition 1 as normal.
* Insert Windows 7 x64 into drive and proceed with setup.
* Install Windows 7 onto Partition 2 as normal.
Use the unique license key for each install, cannot use the same key for both.
Both operating systems are now installed and can be chosen on boot, each has the same available size.
One question I am wondering is does this process create 2 System Partitions for recovery files like it does when doing a single install? If so do I need to incorporate the 200MB size allocated when I am choosing each partition size?
I know this can also be done via disk management after one is installed then shrinking the volume by a max of 50% but I want to know the clean install route as mentioned above.
I am about to use WET to transfer my files from a Vista Comp to a Win 7 Comp.I know I cannot Transfer Programs, and what I'd like to know is must I first Install the Programs on the New Comp.

How do I make DISK 0 become THEE drive that is initally searched on bootup plus is the bootup OS (Windows 7) I hope this Q makes sense. What would even makes this better is if I could rename drive G: as drive C:
