I am trying to configure my network to allow remote desktop access through a router (from outside the router). What steps should I be taking? So far, one computer works, the other doesn't.Windows 7 Pro on both.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a union computer that runs on Windows 7. There are 20 + workers that have a personal user account on the computer. As the administrator I am able to setup and connect to a network printer successfully. However, if a worker wants to print, then I have to set up the printer again for his user account and the other 20 some if they want to do print something to. Isnt there an easy way to just setup the printer once so that everyone can use it on this computer, regardless of whos signed in? Once again I am using windows 7.

View 4 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I installed a USB 3.0 card (to be precise, this one: 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Controller Card - Free Shipping - DealExtreme). It uses the very common NEC PD720200 USB 3.0 controller. I installed the required drivers for Windows 7, and the card worked fine for the first day or so. but not since. Whenever I plug in a USB 3.0 external hard drive, I get a false "This device can perform faster..." message, as if I had plugged the drive in a USB 2.0 port.
The external drive I am using is a Western Digital MyBook Essential 1130. It is definitely a USB 3.0 drive, and came with the required USB 3.0 cable. While the USB 3.0 card was working, I got full-speed transfers to the limit of the hard drive's ability, about 90-100 MB/s. Now I can only get USB 2.0 speeds (33-34 MB/s). Windows insists I have the drive plugged into a USB 2.0 port even though it is plugged directly into the USB 3.0 card.
Things I tried so far: -rebooting and complete power cycle. No difference. -plugging the drive into one port or the other. Also no difference. -Looked in Device manager.The controller is recognized as a USB 3.0 device is using the proper NEC drivers.
Other info that may be important:
-No overclocking settings in use.
-I made sure the cable was plugged in all the way. It's in as far as it can go, but the ports will still only act like USB 2.0 ports.
I might as well throw the card away if it is only going to act as a USB 2.0 device.

Q: Why am I doing this?
A: I have both retail versions of Windows 7 x32 and x64 and need to install both on one HDD, I have two unique keys also. This is used for my work machine for software testing.
I have a single SATA 250GB HDD which is a new HDD, completely un-used.
The steps I think are correct are as follows;
* Insert Windows 7 x32 into drive and proceed with setup.
* Click advanced drive options and click New, create the first partition 50% of my full HDD space.
* Click New and create the 2nd partition with the same size as previous.
* Install Windows onto Partition 1 as normal.
* Insert Windows 7 x64 into drive and proceed with setup.
* Install Windows 7 onto Partition 2 as normal.
Use the unique license key for each install, cannot use the same key for both.
Both operating systems are now installed and can be chosen on boot, each has the same available size.
One question I am wondering is does this process create 2 System Partitions for recovery files like it does when doing a single install? If so do I need to incorporate the 200MB size allocated when I am choosing each partition size?
I know this can also be done via disk management after one is installed then shrinking the volume by a max of 50% but I want to know the clean install route as mentioned above.
I am about to use WET to transfer my files from a Vista Comp to a Win 7 Comp.I know I cannot Transfer Programs, and what I'd like to know is must I first Install the Programs on the New Comp.

DISK 0 G: Healthy (BOOT, PAGE FILE, ACTIVE, CRASH DUMP, PRIMARY PARTITION)
DISK 1 a bunch of stuff, 6 partitions, none of them booting, just content etc.
DISK 2 C: Healthy (SYSTEM, ACTIVE, PRIMARY PARTITION) (IDE 200gig drive)
Disk 2 has windows XP installed on it, it is IDE and I want to take it OUT of the machine completely.
How do I make DISK 0 become THEE drive that is initally searched on bootup plus is the bootup OS (Windows 7) I hope this Q makes sense. What would even makes this better is if I could rename drive G: as drive C:

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get 15 monitors working on my system. I have a gigabyte GA990fxaud5 motherboard with amd fx 8150, 8 core CPU and 16 gb dual channel Kingston ram. I also have 4x firepro 2450 video cards 3 of x16 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.and 1 of x1 here: NTI--ATI FirePro 2450 PCI Express. 4 Display Video card.I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit I have 2 of the x16 cards installed and its working fine and it takes me to a black screen that says "loading operating system" and then everything else goes smooth and takes me to the windows os. When I run the system with these 2 video cards everything runs perfectly and I can get 8 outputs. The problem is, when I put the third card in the system, the system boots, gets passed the bios (where I can press esc to access bios) but then it takes me to a black screen with no further activity. It's when I place the third card in, is when this black screen occurs without having any message.Maybe the systems confused with this third card. Maybe it's something in windows 7 settings. Or maybe bios.I have installed this exact firepro driver: ATI FireGL?Do I need to have SLI or CrossFire to run multiple video cards? Have 1 SSD drive for OS /C No partions and one HDD/D with 2 partions with acronis backup on one the other is clean.
I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]

I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems.The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening.My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I have been getting a fairly random blue screens and I cannot pin point it myself. I know a bit about diagnosing and repairing issues but this one is just a pain in my butt. I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.
I use WhoCrashed to analyze these errors but I dont know how to solve. Maybe my hardware cause these.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get two monitors, a small 1024x768 LCD, and a 46" 1920x1080 TV, to display the same wallpaper at different resolutions. My graphics card is older, a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700, but it is perfectly capable of driving both displays at the same time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get it working if it's possible.
