Active Directory User and Computers
"MMC could not create the snap-in"
Anybody get this working?
I've googled to no avail
I've tried the Vista fix, registering a bunch of DLLs, but that didn't fix it.

I have encounter a problem where my "Active directory users and computer" function suddenly unable to connect to my remote server. I have run a nslookup and below are the reply
C:>nslookup
Default Server: Unknown
Address: 10.10.2.6
I confirm it is not the next work issue because in the same network there is few more PC running windows 7 and XP, they don't have the problem as I mention. I also have a virtual XP running in the notebook that I am using, So I try to install the adminpak and run the Active directory users and computer and what a surprise it work. I have try to reformat the notebook and the problem still occur after I use it...
I tired of reformatting. Update on the troubleshooting of the problem I am encountering, I find out that the windows 7 that I am running is not able to resolve any PC name on my network. I am mentioning this because went I am using the virtual machine install in the notebook (Win XP) to remote desktop to other PC using the desktop name it is working fine.

This PC is attached to a network containing several desktops and laptops running Vista. The Samsung laser printer ML-2240 is attachde by USB to this XP PC. Printing over the network operates perfectly with all other PCs. I have just purchased an Acer laptop with Windows 7 and followed the instructions for file sharing, which works perfectly. I have followed the instructions for installing the printer, and received confirmation that it is installed. However, when I attempt to print out of Word 2007 and press the button "find printer" in the Samsung printer profile I get the message "Active Directory Main Services is currently unavailable". I see that this has been found over the years by many people! I am looking for a solution in my context. The rest of the network operates fine still and I can edit the same Word file over the network and print fine.

Fixing my elderly father's Windows 7/64 desktop. Attempting to print form MS Word to an HP3390 does not give any errors but does not print, either. Attempting to "find printer" from MS Word gives "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable." I went to services.msc to turn on that service but it does not appear in the list. Driver for the printer is already included in Windows 7, according to the HP support site. Printer is USB connected directly to the computer.
BTW Computer is running MW Word 2003 if that makes any difference.

My assignment is to develop a batch file that our logon script can call on to satisfy the following condition:
If the User Information for Office 2010(HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo) equals the local admin default "UserInfo" then
go to ldap/active directory and, using the client's "logon name", find the client in ldap and use their "Display Name" as the value for the String "UserName" in HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo I found this bit of code to get me started... but this code doesn't "call out to active directory"
reg add HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo /v UserName /d %username% /f

I'm having an issue setting up a Mail Enabled Public Folder. I have the folder created, and anonymous are given proper access to allow incoming messages. My Exchange version is 2010 SP1, full updated, running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Whenever I send a message to the mailbox's address, I get an undeliverable:(url)...#554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn't found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn't found. ##
I know the e-mail address is typed in correctly, but I can't seem to figure out why messages aren't going through. I searched online and found some suggestions, all of which either didn't pertain to our environment, or involved patches...which I have installed.

I recently purchased my PC components which include a Corsair 60GB Force Series SSD to use as a boot and application drive. In order to maximize the free space on the SSD I want to move the User Directory from the SSD to the HDD. After looking into this I have found numerous articles which suggest numerous ways to accomplish this.Nearly all of them have people saying that it may cause this or that to go wrong. So what options do I really have? Which method is best (on the list, or found elsewhere)? Is it even worth it (i.e. how much space does the user directory really use)?

Whenever I try to navigate through my user directory (C:UsersMyName), sometimes it takes ages for the computer to respond. This was happening earlier when I was trying to access AppData so I could fix a GreaseMonkey script. Once the computer "unfreezes" (it doesn't really freeze, as I can use the mouse and other applications that don't have Explorer interfaces open), it seems that I can browse the same directories unimpeded for a time, but this is a regular occurrence, and something must be wrong, or some service that should be running is not.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 and was going through a process of organizing the "libraries" and I noticed (possibly of my own doing but am not sure) that the second drive in my system (B) was sitting there in my user folder. My question is, is that normal? How did it get there and how do I correct it if it isn't suppose to be there.

I'm going to make a clean install of windows 7 and therefor have some question
1)As I want to make a dual boot install with a Linux distribution I thinking about the Partitioning. I want to make following Partitions: [code] Windows 7 also always creates this small 100MB system restore partition. So what would be the best way to prepare these Partions. I would use GParted Live CD to create the Partition in advance, that everything is the way I like it. But I'm not sure if this works without problems for the 100 MB system restore partition (lasts time I got 2 100 MB partitions)
2) I want to move the Users data to a separate partition and found this guides: User Profiles - Create and Move During Windows 7 Installation [2]=User%20Accounts User Folders - Change Default Location(Don't know which one I chose to do so till now) But I see in Windows 7 there are much more useless directories in the users home directory:I've already learned the new Library system, but I still want to use the Users directory. But there is a great mess. Is there a useful/possible way to prevent the directory to mess up with all the sub directories, often created by some apps, don't really using the directory. Or are you just ignore the users home directory? Usually I got about 5 to 8 sub-directories in each Directory for a tidy system to find everything and have a good ordered system.

I just built a Jerry-rigged light weight storage computer so I don't have to leave my dev/game comp/volcano on all the time anymore. I also bought a laptop recently as well. What I'd like to do is make the data (on two logical drives to be specific) completely accessible with full privileges to the laptop and this main PC however there are other users on the network that I don't want to share everything with (but still some).I can use PC Anywhere for some things but the end result I'm looking for is a handy couple of links on my desktop to the two raid drives and carry on as though they were still on my comp (and laptop now too), but also not include all users at the same time. (but also have the option to set up sharing for the folders they need access in too)Is this within the capacity of Windows 7? All computers have Win 7 and belong to the same home group.

Three Computers on a home network. Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.
Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.
All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".
I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone. I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.
I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop.

So a new box recently built, when booted, defaults to the local administrator account. This is a Windows 7 machine for a Linux guru that doesn't want to be bothered pressing more buttons than is necessary, if you get my drift. So my question is, after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del...how do I dictate to Windows that the preferred used is "HisDomainAccount" on our company domain, as opposed to the local admin account?

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.
It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I changed the values in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionProfileList in order to move the default user locations to my second partition. I then created a new user profile but when I try to login I get the message 'The User Profile Service failed the login'. When I set these values back to normal, new accounts work fine but I really want my user accounts on the second partition.

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.
Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.
None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

new machine (Home Premium x64). It seems to go to sleep based entirely on how long it's been since I touched the mouse or keyboard. If there's a program running, like a virus scan or a download in progress, it goes to sleep right in the middle of it. That's incredibly stupid! How do I make it stay awake when it's in the middle of doing something, even if it's not receiving input from me?
