How To Have 2 Active Windows 7
Aug 24, 2012
Not sure if this topic goes here anyway I am trying to use two active windows in windows 7.What I'm trying to do is allow 2 people on 1 pc and do 2 separate tasks, I know you can have 2 separate monitors and I worked out how to have 2 separate cursors controlled by their own mouse but Windows only allows 2 active windows at the same time

I have both a windows vista and win 7 laptop, while using the computer if more then one window is open. The inactive windows will pop up over the foreground window. Maybe part of a new windows feature? I don't think its a malware issue its present on both laptops one being brand new. It makes working on the computers rather hard ...

I could hold down the Fn key, a large black bar with symbols in it would drop down from the top edge of the screen, I never paid much attention to what was in that, but then I would hit the Prtsc button. Then when I pasted it into Paint, it was ONLY the active window. Now when I hit the Fn key, the black bar does not drop down and when I hit the Prtsc button the entire screen is copied, not just the active window. I really want this ability back. Any ideas on how to get it to function againmorlaine morlaine has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

For the past six months or so I've had the problem of having my active window deselect itself many time during a session...as often as every ten seconds or so. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed on a Dell Xps 15z-i7.I have read most of the windows forum suggestions on this topic, and none have work for more than a week or two. I have run ARO software checks and Advanced System Care 6 Pro.

I have bought Packard Bell IXtreme X8211 (M3720). It has Quad CPU with 4Gig RAM.
Very frequently it freezes for up to 30 seconds. I have notice in Resource Monitor that the Highest Active Time is 100% every time it freezes. The system has a WD EADS SCSI hard drive.
It started this after about 3 weeks I have purchased the system and it is getting more worse over time. turn off the superfetch service, but that did not help.
The computer is suppose to be very fast with multiple cores but it is really become unworkable slow.

I have this old pc with Windows 7 x32 with an nVidia FX550 256mb agp card. The mobo is an old Asus K8 SE Deluxe with 3gb of ram. Monitor is an LCD 16" Vertu KTC1562. I notice an issue wherein the files I place in the desktop say, the printed .pdf document(recovered from SBIE paid version --all browsers) cannot be seen unless I refresh the desktop. That is when I am using the internet and am downloading / printing in .pdf from the browser(FF and Google Chrome). When I am not connected it's okay I do not have that problem. This happens in the middle of my internet session. During a download/when I see a good article or check my email I print them in pdf and place it in the desktop first prior transferring to the respective folders in my drive.
I don't know what to do here. The problem is not only isolated to the desktop but also when I download/recover files from SBIE to the "downloads folder" the same thing happens. I do not see what I recover if I do not refresh that window. Same as the desktop. I can't see what I recovered if I will not refresh.I tried re-installing the driver for the agp card which is version 15.3(came with the box and is operating okay not in compatibility mode). It was still the same. The new "280.26 forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql" won't intall saying it isn't compatible with my agp. TriednVidia96.85_forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql it installed okay but the problem is the same so I rolled back the driver. This is only in Windows 7 x32 and not with XP(I dual-boot --bios booting separate drives per OS). My PDF is Foxit Phantom and the download app is FreeDownload Manager(freeware)

When using Windows 7, it randomly goes to the lock screen during an active session. This has been the case on multiple computers running Windows 7. Immediateness proceeding the lockout the screen flashes black and than shows the login screen. All of the external hardware is the same, one computer was a desktop, one is a laptop.

Every icon on my taskbar only open off screen. I can see they are open by the thumbnail picture, but I can't make it my active window. I have tried the alt-tab, move method but still can't get them to appear. Is the problem caused because my computer thinks there are two monitors, when I actually have only one? How do I stop this from happening?

I can be in MS Word, After Effects, Surfing or ANY OTHER PROGRAM, and not click out, but be just working away and all the sudden SOMETHING (your part) causes my active window/program to go like it was a background process. could be in the middle of typing an email, and in the middle of a word and I can get half of it typed and then... BOOM! I'm out. The program DOES NOT close, it just acts like I clicked away to the desktop or another program.
Then I have to click back on my email and can resume typing for a bit. This happens every 5 minutes or so (haven't timed it). When it clicks itself out, it doesn't really go anywhere that I can tell, but something is definitely making my active window/program become inactive. I'm assuming it's some background process, but I don't see anything pop-up or blink or give me ANY indication at all that it has taken the active position.
I'm not sure how to even phrase this question since I don't know what is really going on. But it's driving me crazy in my video editing program (Premiere) especially since I'm in it about 15 hours a day. So it's happening, as you can imagine, 5-10 times an hour during my playack.
In fact, just at this very moment it did it again while writing here. My Chrome page became inactive and I had to reclick right here to continue writing.
I've had probably 50 computers since Windows 98 and I've never seen this before. And of course this has to happen on my big edit monster that I'm on all day. The system is a dual Xeon x5680, overclocked to 4.5Gzh, with 48 GB ram. I'm running on a EVGA SR-2 motherboard running the latest bios (as of 2 months ago). Runs like a beast in everything, very stable, just this annoying problem that keeps surfacing all the time. I'm running Win 7 Ult 64.

i have three partitions. P1) 1 logical with windows 7 RC, P2) 1 primary and system, (not clean install) with windows 7 7600, and P3) 1 primary with windows 7 7600, (formatted partition before installed). my problem happend when i tried to set the active partition from "P2" to "P3" using EASEUS. I used "P1" while doing this. after restarting, my machine won't boot. It shows the manufacturer logo, and then followed by a black screen with a flashing cursor on the upper left corner, doing nothing. i let this stand for ten mins but, still, nothing happens. is this normal? i also noticed the manufacturer logo showing a little longer than usual. after 10mins, i decided to restart my machine but the same thing happens. i managed to make a repair disc before this happen. so, i boot in to the repair disc. i tried startup repair but nothing changed. i tried setting the active partition again using CMD. i also tried system restore to "P1" which i used to open EASEUS. and it also failed.

My computer was working fine for months. One day it wouldn't load windows and it was stuck at the black screen with the logo. I have searched the web and I am at the point where windows only starts in safe mode and when the drivers are disabled. I have used another video card and have even falled back on using the onboard video. The results are the same. What is keeping windows from loading the video drivers (Nvidia and Ati alike)? I have a spare drive with win7 and it loads/ starts with no problems so it is an issue with my main drive rather than the video cards or memory.

I messed around with Windows Defender some time ago and now its screwed I think.I have Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows Defender came with it.When I first installed Windows 7 there was always a process in Task Manager for Windows Defender "MsMpEng.exe" and maybe another one.Windows Defender is running properly if I check it in Control Panel but it is not appearing in Task Manager > Processes.services.msc > It is set to Automatic (Delayed Start) which I think is correct. How can I get the processes back running in Task Manager > Processes?

What happened to my computer is, I kept getting the BSOD, I went into safe mode, removed the most recent programs I had installed, and it stopped happening. I then proceeded to plug in my external hard drive. It was not recognizing it for some reason, so I went to disk management. It was listed there, just without a drive letter. I tried to assign it a drive letter, and it gave me an error message saying something about refreshing the list, (this is the error message I should have researched), I tried refreshing the drive list, and tried reassigning the drive letter, same message. I right clicked on the drive again, and I saw mark as active. For some stupid reason, I clicked on this. Then seeing that it didn't do anything, I thought maybe restarting the computer would maybe do the trick. Now my computer won't boot.
It gets to the windows logo, and boom, restarts all over again. I tried many things like, startup repair, system restore, marking partition as active CMD, with diskpart, I also tried some of the commands in bootrec.exe. By the way, if this helps at all, my hard drive is a solid state drive, I also have a slave drive in there which does also have a copy of windows installed on it, (it was my old hard drive), I tried setting that as my primary boot and it boots into my old install of windows, before i got my solid state drive. Is there a way I can fix the startup by having access to it from an operating system instead of the recovery environment?

Ive been working on the administrator account for more than 2 years, left it as it was yesterday. When I came back my account was assigned with guest authorization instead of administrator's. While I was working on my administrator account I disabled Super Administrator account and therefore now I am unable to log into it. My little brother account is just another guest account. So as far as I know there are two guests accounts somehow, 0 administrator accounts, and 1 super administrator account which is disabled. How can I restore my account to its previous settings?

I have only had my Asus CM 1730-03 desktop for 4 days and it works fine except one very important thing. Four out of 5 times when I turn it on, it shows the Asus logo and the Windows 7 logo and plays the Windows 7 music, then I see a black screen with an active cursor that I can move with the mouse. No key commands work, like CTRL-ALT-DELETE. All I can do is hold the power button in until it turns off, then turn it on again. Even when it does boot successfully and I use it for a while, when it goes into rest mode, I get the same black screen and active cursor and have to power down again.
The only installations I have done are Kapersky anti-virus and an internal Linksys Wireless-G adapter from my old computer. At first I did not install the software for the wireless adapter, but I took it out of the PC today, installed the software successfully, and re-installed the adapter (per the instructions) and the computer is still behaving the exact same way.

new machine (Home Premium x64). It seems to go to sleep based entirely on how long it's been since I touched the mouse or keyboard. If there's a program running, like a virus scan or a download in progress, it goes to sleep right in the middle of it. That's incredibly stupid! How do I make it stay awake when it's in the middle of doing something, even if it's not receiving input from me?
