Can't See Files If Not Refresh Active Windows 7/desktop?
Oct 31, 2011
I have this old pc with Windows 7 x32 with an nVidia FX550 256mb agp card. The mobo is an old Asus K8 SE Deluxe with 3gb of ram. Monitor is an LCD 16" Vertu KTC1562. I notice an issue wherein the files I place in the desktop say, the printed .pdf document(recovered from SBIE paid version --all browsers) cannot be seen unless I refresh the desktop. That is when I am using the internet and am downloading / printing in .pdf from the browser(FF and Google Chrome). When I am not connected it's okay I do not have that problem. This happens in the middle of my internet session. During a download/when I see a good article or check my email I print them in pdf and place it in the desktop first prior transferring to the respective folders in my drive.
I don't know what to do here. The problem is not only isolated to the desktop but also when I download/recover files from SBIE to the "downloads folder" the same thing happens. I do not see what I recover if I do not refresh that window. Same as the desktop. I can't see what I recovered if I will not refresh.I tried re-installing the driver for the agp card which is version 15.3(came with the box and is operating okay not in compatibility mode). It was still the same. The new "280.26 forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql" won't intall saying it isn't compatible with my agp. TriednVidia96.85_forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql it installed okay but the problem is the same so I rolled back the driver. This is only in Windows 7 x32 and not with XP(I dual-boot --bios booting separate drives per OS). My PDF is Foxit Phantom and the download app is FreeDownload Manager(freeware)
Hope this is in the correct section. When I open word starter 2010, excel starter 2010, or even save a web page to my favorites in ie9 my desktop icons and task bar will go white and back to normal like a refresh or something. It happens on my desktop and laptop, both have windows 7 pro, one is 64bit and other 32bit, all updates performed. It has been something i have ignored since i dont do those tasks daily but recently i have and its getting annoying now, whats funny is the white/refresh period seems to take longer on my intel 2500k desktop vs the amd athlon neo netbook. Since it occurs on both systems i dont think its a gpu driver issue, besides the desktop one has had different drivers on the gtx570 with no change.
I think I deleted the wrong registry keys in an attempt to fix the memory of size and location of opened windows. I followed some advice on a google and sadly now all the items on my desktop stack to the left no matter what I select.
I've had Windows 7 for a while now, and for a few weeks, with no solution, my desktop icons have been refreshing themselves every 10 seconds and it's very annoying. I added the string Max Icons Cache with a value of 8192 to my Explorer registry in regedit but apparently thats an XP thing. I can't figure this out and it's driving my crazy! I'm clean of viruses because i've done plenty of scans.
My computer boots alright but I can't refresh, neither can I open any of my folders not even Control Panel. Also searching programs and files in the start button window doesn't work i.e you can type but there won't be any results. The only thing I can open are files on the desktop. What is wrong with my folders and how can I repair this? I tried this SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot but it didn't work.
I just tonight installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 onto my system. Right away I noticed the issue. Icons on the desktop won't delete or won't show changes such as renaming right away. I have to refresh the desktop for the changes to take effect. I've tried restarting, I've installed all the current updates... nothing!
Recently my desktop icon placement has not been able to stay put if I do a desktop refresh or a computer reboot. I have looked at many internet hits on this same topic and no solution suggested has worked. I have done the IconCache.db thing where you can delete an existing file from the hidden. AppdataLocal directory and restart the explorer. There was no file there. Yes, I have show hidden files turned on. Restarting explorer doesn't work. Rebooting is supposed to re-create the file, but it doesn't.
Resetting the colors from 32 to 16 and back is supposed to rebuild the cache. It doesn't. Still no file there. After manually placing a few icons and refreshing the desktop, it is supposed to remember where they are, but it doesn't, they just fly back to where they were before manually moving them. This is getting to be very aggravating and frustrating. I don't know why this has started all of a sudden, and I cannot seem to find a solution from the many internet hits on the same topic.
I need to constantly refresh my RTM desktop to apply any changes i do ( copy files, delete files, etc) For example when I delete something, I have to click refresh in order for it to go away from the desktop to the recycle bin.
Was there ever any kind of resolve for Forced Automatic Refresh & Sorting of files and folders in Windows 7 (I'm not talking about Auto Arrange and I need that like it is)
It's when you copy/paste files into a folder and they instantly disperse and sort themsleves upward within the list of files, instead of staying at the bottom of the list Waiting until a refresh/close action to then find their place.
I had an issue where Windows 7 would not boot anymore, getting error, BOOTMGR missing, Press Alt-Ctrl-Del to restart. I have tried to repair with windows disk but still getting error. I have decided that I want to just do a reinstall but I want to get on and export my favorites and grab a couple other things. I used to have a CD that I could use to boot up with (Think it was called Barts Boot Disk, Been too long) to get into Windows XP and do a couple things. My question is, is what is the best boot disk that will allow me to copy files from the HD to my external drive before I refresh?
sometimes while in an active program or internet window the window will disappear suddenly and my desktop will appear. When this happens a slight movement of my mouse will return the window I was in.
When I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop. But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?
I would like to remove the 30 or so files that are now showing on my desktop since selecting to "Show Hidden files"They are all old excel and word documents but not sure if removing them would cause an issue What are they/how are they created?I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and Office 2007
I intend to transfer files from an xp pc to a new windows 7 desktop. I have the belkin transfer cable to accomplish the transfer. Question: With one monitor, how do I negotiate the graphic instructions from one pc to the other?
My son has lost important business documents kept in a folder on the desktop of his Win 7 computer. He has also lost his entire itunes library and pictures from 'My Pictures' folder. This seems rather arbitrary so could it be a virus issue?
I have 25 files and folders on my desktop but only 15 are visible when viewing the desktop directly. All of them are visible when viewing the desktop in Windows Explorer. I have two monitors configured as one and keep all desktop items on one of them. I've tried selecting everything with CTL-A while on the desktop and moving them around as a group, to see if the missing ones might have somehow scrolled off the screen, but that doesn't reveal them.
I have been experiencing same problem in the link above and on both my laptop and my desktop,,,,both of them have same windows 7 ultimate 64 bitWhen I download any file to the desktop I am not able to see it unless I browse to the path C:UsersjohnDesktop,,,,then I would be able to see that file
I have 7, 64 bit, running on an HP and have been keeping pretty up to date on my drivers.amd a4 3300 processor with graphics card, and 4 g ram. When trying to use menus, the window or entire screen will seem as though it refreshes, closing the menu, i can watch the bar across the top of windows flash as if it had just disappeared for a split second and the menu is gone, leaving me to reopen it, but at a second or less between these refreshes I have to be quick on the pointer to get to what I want. It seems to happen on any menu item, including all drop downs, wether im right clicking a start menu pined item, a choice dropdown on a webpage, a setting dropdown, etc. it doesnt alwasys do this but more often than not. It seems like I can sometimes restart the pc and it will work, but it often will do it right at startup. I hadnt noticed it til I connected the VGA out AND the HDMI out to the same tv (dont know why I did it at the same time, I think to compare the cropping). Also, I used system restore to go back to before a bunch of updates and it seemed to fix it, but that might just be because the pc restarted in the process.
I can't seem to keep my desktop icons from refreshing on EVERY bootup. I tried all the reg hacks for Max Cached Icons such as Windows 7 - Increase Icon Cache Size*|*MyTechSupport.ca It's not a big deal, I don't think this should be happening.
I use Dexpot, a multi desktop manager, but I don't think it's causing this.
i by mistake changed my refresh rate to 100 Ghz in now my monitor is displaying "out of rage" message, i changed it from intel someting in the control panel, and now i am not getting that option in safe mode?.
When I try to do a clean install of Windows 7 I get the loading files white progress bar you normally get during an installation, it then goes directly to the scrolling progress bar that would normally appear before a Windows startup, and then goes to a blank Windows 7 desktop with only a cursor (that I can move).I have a computer with the following specs:[CODE]I have tried to install with every version I can get my hands on, both 32 and 64 bit. None of them are upgrade versions. I've tried installing on a fresh WD Raptor and an Intel G25 SSD. All other drives have been disconnected. I've moved my memory around and tried with one stick. My mainboard has the latest official BIOS, although there is a new beta.
I ran the Windows 7 compatibility test and didn't see anything that would cause this problem.I have searched the internet and have not been able to find a solution sonstalling Windows XP has never been a problem, just Windows 7, always with the same problem. This is one of the few times when I have not been able to look around a find an existing answer to a problem and I am stumped.
Usually, when you create/rename/delete a file/folder in the directory in Windows Explorer, it will add/renamed/remove automatically without refreshing. However, I have this issue where if you do any of the above, it doesn't refresh until you press F5. I tried to see if its a driver issue by booting into Safe Mode but it didn't work in there.
Few days ago I caught a virus (at least I believe I did)... Used Malwarebytes and found 7 infected files in my Windows Folder. The first few syptoms of my OS was the resolution of the screen changed to 1024x768 (it should be 1920x1080) and is stuck there. The refresh rate changed from 60Hz to 59Hz, when I tried to change it back, the screen just flashes black but the tab still says 59Hz. So I reinstalled Windows 7 with the upgrade option from the OS disk, hoping to fix everything. But it didn't...
My bios was also messed up, everything was reset and edges of my screen was cutten off. The booting animation of Windows 7 is now changed to the Vista's booting animation. I reflashed the bios and that fixed that, now I've done a clean install of Windows 7, formating C: then installing. But all problems still persists... even there is no more virus found by 5 anti-virus programs. I'm still stuck in 1024x768, Windows 7 thinks my hdmi cable is apparently a dvi cable, the refresh rate is still 59Hz, the booting animation is the Vista's one.
Back in Windows XP, I was able to increase a PS/2 mouse's sampling rate from its default setting to 200 Hz at `Device Manager > Mouse > 'Name of Mouse' > Properties > Advanced Settings > Sample Rate` (like this [link]), but this setting is now gone in Windows 7. Is there another way to increase or change a PS/2 mouse's polling/refresh/sample rate in 64-bit Windows 7?The mouse uses generic installed-by-Windows default drivers back in XP, and the same with Windows 7.Edit: The screenshot is not from my PC. I just got it somewhere in the internet. It is just to illustrate how to edit a PS/2 mouse's sample rate back in Windows XP.
