Renaming Folder And Moving Files In Windows 7?
Jul 11, 2010When I try to rename a folder, I get a comment like something open in another folder or program and I know of nothing that it is open - Hence I cant make a rename. Also if I move a File to another folder, it just copies it and then it wont let me delete the original folder --- Doing this kind of stuff used to be so easy on XP , but I guess one has to learn it all over again.

Jan 21, 2011about 2 weeks ago i installed windows on a new custom built computer, and everything was fine till about 3 or 4 days ago when it suddenly wouldn't let me empty the recyle bin, or move or rename any file from anywhere, not even my external HD. It doesn't give me any error when I try, just nothing happens at all. Also when i try to make a new file or folder inside an existing one i get a system error 340. I've tried booting into safe mode and deleting/moving/renaming and nothing. Same with Unlocker nothing seems to work. Ide hate to have to install windows again and loose things i have downloaded since i can't move them to my external HD or burn them on a disk.

Aug 19, 2011How to rename a bunch of files in Windows 7 while ignoring the filetypes at the same time? In Windows XP this wasn't a problem, no matter what format the file had, the numbering would continue anyway. In Windows 7 the numbering starts over again when a file has a different filetype format.
For example:
WINDOWS XP:
file (1).jpg
file (2).mov
file (3).wma
Windows 7:
file (1).jpg
file (1).mov
file (1).wma
file (2).jpg
file (2).mov
file (3).jpg
file (4).jpg
I want the numbering to continue in Windows 7... (Not have multiple number ones or two's)
Renaming And Deleting Folders And Files?
Nov 22, 2009What I describe below doesn't always happen but it does lots of times: Let's say I delete a folder, it will tell me that access is denied, a program is using it, to solve that, I have to open another folder, or click on an image, then go back to the folder I want to delete, and delete it.
Renaming (this is all over the network) here's what I do:
1. Open randomly named folder to check content.
2. Go back up one folder level to rename the folder according to content.
3. Error! Folder is in use by another program (not specified), please try again
4. Try opening another folder and then going back again to rename originally wanted folder... sometimes it works.
5. Wait 5-10 minutes before renaming.
I just tried to rename a folder without even going into the folder....Error!! "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again."
Windows 7 ultimate x64.

Sep 28, 2012Basically I have an HP Pavilion a6230n desktop. It's about 5-7 years old now. The specs are AMD Athlon x2 5600 processor, 3GB of Ram, nvidia Geforce 6150 SE nForce 430, 15-in 1 card reader and light scribe cd/DVD drive. It's operating system is windows 7 professional 32 bit at the moment (before my reinstall last night, it was windows ultimate 64 bit) and the computer came as a factory default of windows vista 32 bit.
Basically for some time now (4 months now) my computer has been shutting down at random times wether it's being in use doing little things such as watching videos, browsing and etc or being on but not being used. I think it is not a overheating program because At times, i have let the computer to cool down, before I boot it up and wether it being on for 5 minutes, it will shut down randomly. Even at times while the computer is booting up as soon as the windows 7 loading screen is gone. It will shut down.

I was using it and reading tips on how to make it run better on the performance tips on the control panel when without warning the screen went to black and reappeared with the desktop now aligned 45% clockwise in a few seconds the screen went to black again and the desktop screen reappeared again but this time re-aligned 45% anti-clockwise, ( the top of the page on the right hand side and the bottom of the page on the left side.

Oct 26, 2011When I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop.But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?

Apr 13, 2012I've lately had this weird issue while im playing games, it just drops to desktop every 5 minutes, and if i press any letters on my keyboard it makes a sound as if a program denies it (don't really know how too explain it better, hopefully you understand). There is no error or such, i can just click again on the game icon, but it will dropp out after 5 minutes.This happens also while i surf the internett and do other stuff. Jun 6, 2012i recently purchased a new toshiba laptop with windows 7 64bit installed, which worked pretty well until i ran into a random crash a few days ago. i'm not sure why it happened, but at the time, i was running a Internet video and then i got a post on google talk. at that point, the computer froze on the sound and i wasn't able to use the mouse anymore. it acted like a stop error, even though no blue screen popped up or anything. it seems like it freezes like this when i leave the computer on for a long period of time or something. it's happened around three times, once with the google talk sound, and twice with the skype sound, and all three times Internet was opened.
anyway, ever since that initial crash, i've had a hard time starting up the computer. the first time, i attempted to run the task manager and click the "show processes from all users" button, however after clicking the button, the computer seems to hang at loading consent.exe, and the cpu was around 4% or so. i was also trying to load google chrome, but it wouldn't load either. after waiting about 5 minutes, i pressed ctrl-alt-delete, which then i got an error that the window couldn't load.the second time i tried running the task manager, i noticed that the networking and sharing center wouldn't work at all. i could run programs (that weren't internet browsers), as well as the control panel... but i couldn't open the networking and sharing window from either the control panel or the icon on the taskbar. consent.exe was hanging in this instance as well.
after those two times, i was able to get the computer working again and didn't have too many problems as long as the computer was on. ran into the problem again after successfully shutting down windows one night, then trying to turn it back on the next day. however, this was even more odd because explorer.exe crashed on its own, but i hadn't done anything since i turned the computer on. i also couldn't get the task manager open for some reason.today, after leaving the computer off since last night, i tried turning on the computer again, and once again the computer hanged on trying to load google chrome and the task manager. this time, the task manager wouldn't load, but the icon would appear in the taskbar (frozen. can't right click it or anything.) and skype was working. i made a comment on google talk, but that froze after i got a response.i was able to hit the shut down button in that instance, but after waiting 8 minutes, the windows logoff screen wouldn't show up, so i just shut it down and turned it on again.
Desktop Display Randomly Getting Smaller And Moving To Upper Left Corner
Feb 6, 2013We are using some Lenovo Q180's as media players for digital signage. For the most part they have all been working fine except for 2. Randomly, the signage presentation will re-size itself and move into the upper left corner. This happens randomly and not at the same times each day. They are hooked up to a LED tv via HDMI. I have tried switching the HDMI cables, ensuring all drivers are current and tried most all the basic troubleshooting. A simple re-start will get everything back looking and running fine. Again, this is a digital signage application so we cannot tell if this has occurred until the client calls to let us know which is not good for us.

It randomly gives BSOD. I have checked the dump files and it seems to show at least 3 possible reasons depending on the file. I have updated drivers from the manufacturers sites directly to try and fix the problem. Other solutions I found for the various error codes did not seem to apply.BTW- Please don't pay attnetion to the dump files created on 4-1-12. I know why those happened. It was my error.
Computer Restarts Randomly And No .exe Files Open?
Mar 18, 2012Just yesterday my desktop (currently using laptop) randomly restarted and now no .exe files will open. I have searched the forums and some posts suggested combofix. However, I cannot access the internet nor can I open any files. I also ran the computer in safemode and still no luck. I have the following antivirus programs: AVG 2012, Malwarbyte, Super antivirus, and CC cleaner. Oddly enough, CC cleaner and Super antivirus works normally but doesn't fix any problems. I would say 90% of my programs cannot open. I can run the command prompt as well.Things I have tried:
1) system restore
2) System recovery options

Sep 12, 2011Randomly around 9pm or 10pm at night I would hear a series of clicking into folders sound, you know that sound windows makes when you open a folder? It's that sound.Nothing is moving on my computer. I just hear that folder opening sound sometimes.It's not just 1 click. It's a series of 5-6 clicks, with pauses in between each click. so it actually sounds like someone is going through files.Does anyone know what could be wrong? I ran a full slow check with AVG and it found nothing.

If you wish to rename the feed in order to organize your Feeds. You must use the manage feeds option from the right click menu. After opening the manage feeds windows. Create a new folder and then move your RSS feeds to the new folder. If you have saved feeds, they will need to be moved as well before deleting the old RSS folder.
I must say this does not seem user friendly. I do hope they fix this. Simply renaming the RSS feed from the right click menu should not break the RSS feed links.
Computer Randomly Plays/pauses Audio/video Files?
Apr 17, 2011So I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and my files randomly play or pause, whether it's a song, or a movie or a TV show. Sometimes it goes for hours not giving me problems, but then at some point randomly pauses and continues, either at like half second intervals, few seconds, or even like 20 seconds after it pauses, it randomly plays again.
I play them off my hard drive and off my external, it's not my external that's the problem I don't think. I'm thinking maybe my wireless adapter is a problem? I don't know.
If I downloaded HijackThis and gave you guys or the guys there a log, would they be able to identify what's causing this, or would it just show as me clicking pause and play, because it does it by itself...
I don't have a virus, I didn't access the internet for more than a few days and I didn't go on any malicious sites, I have AV, but the wireless isn't even on and it's a new build, I know I don't have a virus.
Renaming Folder Only In Libraries View (Windows 7 Feature)
Dec 9, 2010I finally got around to recognizing the use of the Libraries feature in Windows 7, and can't believe I didn't realize it earlier. Anyways, my question is, I have 2 folders in a Library with the same name (but point to different locations), basically they contain the same files but one resides in My Dropbox and one resides on my local HD. When I rename a folder in Libraries (to distinguish btwn the 2), it also renames that folder in the actual folder location. I was wondering if I could ONLY rename the folders in the Libraries view, without having it reflect on the actual folder name. Also, I was wondering if any of you have used the Libraries feature as an Application Launcher (ie. creating different Libraries for Programs, Games, etc.), and would like to know how that works/worked out.

Oct 31, 2011I have this old pc with Windows 7 x32 with an nVidia FX550 256mb agp card. The mobo is an old Asus K8 SE Deluxe with 3gb of ram. Monitor is an LCD 16" Vertu KTC1562. I notice an issue wherein the files I place in the desktop say, the printed .pdf document(recovered from SBIE paid version --all browsers) cannot be seen unless I refresh the desktop. That is when I am using the internet and am downloading / printing in .pdf from the browser(FF and Google Chrome). When I am not connected it's okay I do not have that problem. This happens in the middle of my internet session. During a download/when I see a good article or check my email I print them in pdf and place it in the desktop first prior transferring to the respective folders in my drive.
I don't know what to do here. The problem is not only isolated to the desktop but also when I download/recover files from SBIE to the "downloads folder" the same thing happens. I do not see what I recover if I do not refresh that window. Same as the desktop. I can't see what I recovered if I will not refresh.I tried re-installing the driver for the agp card which is version 15.3(came with the box and is operating okay not in compatibility mode). It was still the same. The new "280.26 forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql" won't intall saying it isn't compatible with my agp. TriednVidia96.85_forceware_winvista_x86_international_whql it installed okay but the problem is the same so I rolled back the driver.This is only in Windows 7 x32 and not with XP(I dual-boot --bios booting separate drives per OS). My PDF is Foxit Phantom and the download app is FreeDownload Manager(freeware)
Desktop Files Are Visible In Windows Explorer But Not On It
Oct 4, 2010I have 25 files and folders on my desktop but only 15 are visible when viewing the desktop directly. All of them are visible when viewing the desktop in Windows Explorer. I have two monitors configured as one and keep all desktop items on one of them. I've tried selecting everything with CTL-A while on the desktop and moving them around as a group, to see if the missing ones might have somehow scrolled off the screen, but that doesn't reveal them.

Library Not Renaming?
Sep 14, 2009Windows 7 now incorporate Librarys as a way of sorting ur stufff instead of designated Folders. Well I always Renamed my libraries (from Beta to RC to now Win 7 Pro) with no probs at all.Tll just now. I discovered all my libraries have "fixed" them selves to the default naming (music, Videos, Documents...you get the pic ). Any further changes to the library name does not work at all. However if i were to change the library name to anything other than the desired library name, it would change without a hitch. just what is going on here? It jut recovered from another prob, that was Chckdsk not starting (it would get stuck at 1 second) now my question is these problems interelated, and if so do i really have to reinstall My copy of windows 7 ?(please don't tell me i have to. D=)

I renamed all the songs correctly but when I play them with VLC or WMP the music plays the correct song but the names remain the same. How can I get the names to appear as per the song being played?
