Wake Timers Not Working On Laptop?
Aug 8, 2010
I am trying to use my laptop as an alarm clock for waking up in the morning. I put the laptop in sleep mode at night, and none of the alarm clock programs that I have tried have succeeded in waking it. I am able to wake it manually by pressing the power button. Wake timers have been enabled and hybrid sleep is disabled. It is an NP5125 from Sager.

My Gateway copmputer shuts down every night around 10:30 p.m. and it takes at least half an hour or more to re-boot and start again.Last night I had to disconnect the power cord from back of computer several times for it to start up again.

My pc can wake up from sleep if it is shut down, but if it's on sleep or hibernated, i can not wake it up. I've already turned on everything in Bios and Windows. There no option like WakeOnLAN from Sleep, just WakeOnLan from PowerOff in network adapter's Advanced tab properties. I've also updated network car driver. Maybe I should try with other network card?

I have a Logitech G15 keyboard that refuses to wake up when the computer resumes. Everything else wakes fine and I do have power to it, but no response to key input. I have to unplug the KB, then plug it back in for the system to see it. It is plugged in to a hub along with my mouse and a few other things. Any ideas?

I have a relatively old laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad x61) which is running 32-bit Windows 7 and has an intel NIC.I have been trying to setup wake-on-lan (inmy local network) for this machine for a couple of days and haven't been able to make it completely work. I have upgraded the bios and the drivers on the machine to the latest versions and also enabled WOL in the bios and in the driver for the NIC. When I put the machine in sleep and then after 10 - 15 minutes send a magic packet from a remote machine, it does wake up.The problem is, when the machine goes to sleep and stays in sleep mode for a long time (over night), then I can't wake it up any more. The machine is still in the sleep mode (it does not hibernate), but I think it turns off something after being in sleep for a while.

Hi new user here, my RTM copy used to go to standby and wake up fine but recently when I try to power it up the machine will appear to start up, but my screen, keyboard and mouse do not wake up, also my wifi light does not turn on either.
The only way to get on to my pc is to do a hard restart.
I believe this might help:

Earlier today, my laptop wouldn't wake up from hibernation, so i restarted it. I got it started and it said there was a windows error and suggested i boot up as normal. I did that and it was all running fine. But the sound wasn't working! The issue of sound not working has happened before so i just restarted the computer (because that has fixed the problem in the past). It started the boot up as normal and almost made it to the log in screen, but wouldn't pass the black screen before the log in. I thought that was very odd so i restarted it after waiting about ten minutes of nothing happening. It then started up with the suggestion to run the start up repair program. I highlighted that and hit enter. it started up, went to a black screen, then after about 3 or 4 minutes, loaded what looked like a blueish wallpaper. it didn't do anything after that for about 15 minutes, then it loaded the repair program. I ran that for 40 minutes but it didn't appear to do anything so i hit cancel. It then gave me the option to do a system restore, which i did. I restored my system to about 2 weeks ago, seeing as i didn't have any problems 2 weeks ago. It restarted and booted up, this time staying on the black screen for about 3 minutes, then going to the log in. It logged in perfectly fine, but there's still no sound. I tried opening the troubleshooter, but it won't open. For some reason, Google chrome works fine, and task manager does too, but some programs won't open. It's like, they try to open, and the task manager says they're running, but they won't appear on screen. Programs like, Steam client, iTunes, System recovery. Those were three different ones that i tried and didn't work. It appears to be quite random. I tried running Boost speed to see if it could diagnose a problem, but it said that it couldn't connect to the drives. I ran my antivirus software to see if it was a virus causing the problem, but it came up with the same error! I really am at a loss for what's going on! This laptop is only 5 or 6 months old. The drives shouldn't be failing already. [code]

I'm having problems when my laptop goes to sleep, I'm not sure what happens but when my battery is low, it goes to sleep but doesn't wake up even if I plug the charger in. The only way I can get this fix is to restart it by shutting it down through the power button.

i have to press the power button every time instead. all the laptop i've owned before were never like that, opening the lid would've sufficed. i checked power options settings, i don't see "lid open action", only "lid close action" which is set to "sleep" mode.

I have a Logitech DiNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard and a Logitech M510 Wireless Mouse.
I can't get my laptop to wake up by pressing keys on the keyboard or by clicking the mouse. The only way I can get it out of standby is to press a key on the actual laptop or click something with the laptop's built it touchpad.
I already tried looking in Device Manager but there is no Power Management tab for the keyboard or the mouse. There is only a Power Management tab on the laptop's built in keyboard and touchpad.
It's kind of annoying not being able to use the wireless devices to wake up the computer. I've read around that maybe it's because since the computer is on standby, the wireless keyboard and mouse's USB receiver aren't being powered by the laptop.

I have a 4-month old Dell Inspiron N411Z with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit. I have been noticing that it has trouble "waking up" after sleep or hibernate, when I open the lid, after it was left on from the previous usage, I have to hit power button and it boots up with the first screen being safe mode, start windows normally, etc. I get the unexpected shutdown screen. It then boots normally and all is well, until I close the lid and let it sit, this happens whether it is plugged up or not. My first thought was to adjust power settings, sleep/hibernate timers, etc. I have tried nearly every combination, down to choosing "never sleep or hibernate" and still have the same result upon starting up again. I have scoured forums, updated drivers, tested and tried nearly all advice that I have found and can't seem to resolve this. Upon reviewing my Event Viewer, I am consistently getting the same errors nearly every time. The following will be the first six entries in "Administrative Events":
-ERROR-The previous system shutdown at 5:16:06 PM on 5/1/2012 was unexpected. -WARNING-Name resolution for the name [URL] timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.
[Code]....
Nothing that I do or change, seems to affect the outcome. However, one thing that I have noticed is when I take the laptop to work or vacation with me, it seems to work fine!?? I noticed this after packing it my suitcase and not using it for nearly 3 days on a trip and went to use it when I got home, expecting to have to boot up as usual, and I get the "resuming windows" screen! as well as a nearly full battery, as if it went in to sleep/hibernation and woke up as it should. This has happened at least 2 times that I am aware of?

Logmein software is able to wake the computer up with On Board Wake up is disabled or enabled in BIOS.I have also Toshiba L505D.Logmein software can wake the computer up only if Wake up on LAN is enabled in BIOS.What is the difference between ASUS BIOS's On Board Wake up option and Toshiba BIOS's Wake up on LAN option? UPDATE: I found out that ASUS's Option was for diskless boot and using network hard disks as hard disks. Nothing to do with Wake up on LAN.

So I posted several weeks ago that my fan was about to go out in my HP DV7 laptop, and it finally stopped working completely. I have a small fan I a using to keep it cool. It appears to be doing the job for the most part. Depending on the time of day I get 32 degrees to a high of about 74 degree's in the hot part of the day.
My question is will this be alright, or is the internal fan being out and not pushing the air out going to be a problem? I will tell you one thing after calling HP and checking with local repair shops I won't be paying anyone to fix it and I am not sure if I can tackle this job myself or not. If I were to fix it myself don't I also have to put the heat sink (processor) stuff on there? (Not sure of the name of the stuff) And were do I get this stuff? So should I just wait and see if this small fan continues to work for me? Or jump in and try to fix it and create more problems! My fear is I will damage the mother board or something else trying to repair the $45.00 fan! Is it worth it? Or rock and roll with the $5.00 external Walmart fan Which could last days or years.
I am bummed as the laptop is only 1 1/2 years old. But I absolutely like all the options and design of my laptop!

I have a HP laptop and a custom built desktop both running Windows 7. I have both devices networked together and both share files through the Windows 7 Home Group or through my NAS. There are many times when I am on my laptop and want to switch over to my desktop or vice versa. My desktop has multiple displays which got me thinking about extended desktops. Is there any possible way to set up a connection between both computers so that a program or software that is installed on both computers could be dragged from the laptop screen over to my desktop screen?

1. removed ALL items that may be on port 80, which included Skype and TeamViewer.
2. I installed Apache 1st, ran a check with my localhost and it displays "It Works"
3. Installed PHP from PHP's site
4. Installed MySQL's workbench with success.
I tried to install the 64 bit WAMP since im running a 64 bit OS on my laptop. This didnt work, so i installed EVERYTHING, and tried the same process but with the 32 bit, still no go.Ive searched all forums and web videos with no luck.

I have a pioneer blueray writer drive installed in my Sony Vaio laptop. I'm on holiday and brought some DVD's with me to watch in the evenings. I have watched several since arriving but tonight when I tried to play one nothing happened. I checked in device manager and it reports that the drive is working properly but when I checked device region I found that it was set to region 1 instead of region 2. When I try to switch to region 2 I get the following error message;"Unable to update region setting. The drive reports that it requires media of the destination region (region 2) so please insert appropriate media and try again." When I insert a region 2 DVD into the drive and click okay it asks if I'm sure I want to change to region 2, I click OK and I get the same error message as above. I have tried uninstalling the drive and then rebooting the computer to force Windows 7 to reinstall it but it just comes up the same as it was. Any idea how to get this working again?
