WMP Doesn't Fully Quit After Watching MKVs Via Shark007
Jan 29, 2012
Whenever I play a .mkv, I notice that even after I quit WMP (and the window closes), I have to go to the task manager and quit wmpprocess.exe in order for it to release the file (so I can move or rename it). I've also noticed that ffx and Direct vob sub also stay open in the taskbar, and can have multiple instances going, one for each video i had recently watched. I can hover over them with the cursor to make most instances dissapear, except for once instance of each applet, which only go away onec I quit wmpprocess.exe
and my sidebar only has lines . On google CHROME facebook works. Also I get a message saying hotkey has stoped working. Says doyou want to fix online but nothing happens.Went to Hotkey utility and you can't repair it..... only uninstall it.Hope I haven't deleted something I shouldn't have. I did systen restore and that doesn't help.that their is a black box with a red line where my clocketc on my desktop where it was. Tried putting them back on but just get the above.
The "Uninstall/change a program" utility in the control panel is not listing all my programs (it does list about 90% of them though). What else can I use?
I've had my asus eeepc 1001pxd running at 16 bit ( just changed it)and my internet keeps freezing up especially when I im watching video. When i check the task manager it shows that I'm using a load of cpu when I open new page I've changed my browser from chrome to mozilla and finally now to Opera which seems to work better but whenever I'm online it seems to freeze up. I've had some other little glitches too. Once in a while the keyboard just stops working and also once in a while arrow keys just start turning the screen upside down out of the blue. I've tried to figure everything out. but to no avail. It even froze up (not responding) when i started the event viewer.
Here are the details from my eventvwr from the last week. Code:

I have an HP Pavilion Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate (AMD processor). Started working this morning and my Logitech USB wireless mouse didn't work. Tried it in another computer and it worked fine. Got a message when I plugged in the dongle that said "one of the USB devices attached to this computer malfunctioned and the computer does not recognize it." I talked to both HP and Logitech. I updated the Logitech drivers (Setpoint 6.20), but that didn't help. HP wants me to do a system restore, which I am loathe to do (the last time it totally trashed my computer).
Yesterday I installed Audacity, a sound recording and processing freeware program. I had to change a number of settings (which I followed various directions and didn't record what I did) to make it work and I was told to put lame_enc.dll on the desktop as part of enabling it to work. Today the front headphone jack on my new-to-me HP Pavilion a1700n running Windows 7 PC does not work. I suspect a connection between yesterday's changes.
windows 7 Laptop had sound working and a few days later lady calls me and said it don't work now, don't no what they did, speaker has red x and can't get anysound, only has headset plugins for bluetooth say you can also plug in powered speakers into one but that didn't work either, keeps saying everything is unplugged when nothing should have to be plugged in any way.
You know the little preview you get when you hover over an icon on the taskbar? Well mine stopped working for some reason. I don't see anything obvious where you right click and go to properties, and I don't really know where else to look. Could a virus cause this? I ran a scan with avast! and came up with nothing.edit: also, I think the problem may have started after using this screensaver [URL]
I was getting all sounds from my monitor (no speakers plugged into tower) now when I check the sounds in control panel it says no audio device installed.
Ive recently built a new machine about a month or two ago and I have been having an issue within the last couple of weeks where when im playing d3 the keyboard and mouse will quit responding. They both still receive power as the lights are on. Then once you restart everything will work and start playing again it could work for 10 seconds or 6 hours before it quits responding and you have to restart again.
So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb controllers, ive updated the motherboard chipset. Ive also tried switching usb ports. I also have this combo hooked up to a kvm switch and when it quits responding I can flip over to the other computer and it will work fine. So that leads me to believe its a software or driver issue but as far as I know ive already reinstalled everything.
I have a gateway model md2614u that use to have vista. After installing windows 7 my web cam quit working. However it does work when I use skype. The tool bar does not come up when I try to start the web cam program like it should.
I was scanning this morning with great success. Abruptly, it quit scanning. I've rebooted the PC, uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it. It still will not scan.
my Windows 7 recently quit assigning drive letters automatically. I frequently plug in new hard drives to the system using various USB to IDE or SATA adapters and now when I plug in a new hard drive with any of these USB adapters, it does not get a drive letter assigned to the volumes on the drive. If I go to Disk Management, the drives show up, and so do their partitions, and I can manually assign a drive letter to it, but this gets rather tedious. Any idea why it quit doing it automatically and how to get it to automatically assign drive letters once again?? I figured maybe it ran out of letters, so I went in the registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMMountedDevices and deleted all the remembered drive letter assignments in there, but that didn't help any.
Sometimes it's ok but a lot of the time if i hit X my music carries on playing and i see not responding in task manager so i end up having to force quit.
I used to run a nature sound file in Media Player, to help me sleep, with Task Scheduler set to wake me up with an online radio program. First task stops, "wakeup" task starts immediately after; worked great for almost a year.Suddenly, doesn't work. Running task doesn't stop, and either wakeup task never starts, or, if it does, it runs as some sort of "ghost" instance: no window showing in the Taskbar, nothing showing in Task Manager (neither as application or as process). I have to restart the whole computer to get it to stop!Checked all the settings in Task Scheduler, tried drawing up new tasks; no change.Too bad I bought this PC with Windows 7 preinstalled--no disks to rebuild from.
Up until a couple of weeks ago all of my Adobe Open Type fonts worked fine. Now I a getting a atmlib.dll error. Says it is not designed to work on Windows. Seems to have happened after a Win 7 update.
I was watching netflix when randomly the internet window closed and ventrilo closed in the background. Then the computer shut off, much like if you restart the computer and the windows close. This time though it did not ask me to close any of them before it shut off. Then when I went to reboot my computer it got past the bios and some intro screens but then just got hung up on a black screen with a blinking cursor. It never reached the boot menu. It is seven 32 bit.
When I attempt to shut the computer down (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) it hangs at the Shutting Down screen... for hours... never actually shuts down. After 20-30 seconds there is no disk activity, so I just power it off or reset it and it's fine. Because of this method I worry about losing one of my disks, having already lost my backup storage disk as a result of this issue. In troubleshooting I have done the following: *Logged all the way out of all profiles and then with no one logged in clicked on shutdown, but I have the same issue, so I am thinking that it is a SYSTEM process that is causing the hang up. *Briefly checked Event Viewer and didn't notice anything. *There was a Microsoft FixIt that I applied that was related to this, but it did not fix the issue (can't remember the KB article number). So, I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on a good program or batch file to run that will do a good job at logging events during the shutdown process. Obviously Windows itself does this, but I was thinking more along the lines of logging specific Services as they are stopped.
have installed a new sound card as my on-board pin had broken, now when i try to shutdown my PC will not fully shutdown.i have to hold in button to turn off , witch means it now starts up in safe mode, i have updated all drivers and disabled and enabled all hardware but to no avail.
The Easy Transfer created 7 .mig files of which only 3 have been moved from my external hard drive to my C drive. All 7 are still in the external hard drive including the 3 in the C drive. How do I get them to finish transferring to my C drive. This is what I have to do-right?
I'm working on a neighbor's computer that had a number of viruses on it. I ran four different virus scanners that I placed on a boot DVD to get rid of them but it appears that the viruses may have roughened up the registry. The computer is an IBM Lenovo model A55 ThinkCentre with Windows 7 Ultimate installed. What is happening is after you click on either the Administrator or User icon to log in, you get a black background for a desktop, a mouse pointer, and a task window but nothing else. I have to close explorer.exe and re-load it in order to get Windows 7 to finish loading. Once I do that, everything appears fine except for the fact that I can't get any windows updates. I installed Comodo security suite offline from my thumb drive but it won't update either. I have already tried downloading and running the Windows 7 update readiness tool which says everything is fine with the registry. I then downloaded and burned a copy of SP1 from my computer to DVD and tried installing it but after the reboot, it says there was an error and couldn't complete and then gives the following code.... 0x800f0826.
Laptop will not turn off when I tell it to shut down. The operating system seems to shut down, but the computer itself stays on (case lights and fan are still active) and can only be turned off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I have tried everything short of re-installing the OS - which I cannot do because of the non-transferable programs I have on this laptop. It is a Dell Vostro 3450 running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
My Windows 7 Home premium userid has ADMIN privelage. When in BACKUP and RESTORE the MANAGE SPACE and CHANGE SETTINGS buttons do nothing. I can backup system ok. The other buttons, eg CREATE SYSTEM IMAGE work fine.Every few days ADOBE FLASHPLAYER pops up saying it cannot be updated as I need
