Dec 18, 2011So in Windows 7, whatever applications you have pinned to the start menu sometimes have a triangle facing out, and if you click on that triangle, it will show the recent documents you've worked with that application. As the title says, there is one application that just won't show the list no matter how many times I click on the triangle. However, other applications DO show that list. How is it that only one application is causing trouble while others aren't?

Oct 29, 2012I'm having a bit of an odd problem with the "Recent Items" menu on the start menu. I have found many google searches on this topic but none that answer my particular question. the question I have is simple can I set it up so that the recent items menu only shows recently opened documents and pics and NOT recently used programs? Recently used programs just clutter up the list and feat the purpose of it being there at all as I have quick launch icons for the programs I use frequently. I'd like the recent Items list to function the way the recent documents list did in vista, as this is ALOT more useful and it only included recent documents and pcitures, not programs. The idea is that I have a short cut to documents I am using frequently without having to go the long route of locating them on my computer to opent them.

Oct 28, 2011I gave up trying to get the Recent Documents link to work on the Start Menu - what is the point of them being in alphabetical order? So I just created a shortcut to the Recent folder on my desktop and started using that. But even there I can't keep it sorted in 'date modified' order. It stays that way for an hour or so, but when I go back the folder has sorted itself in alphabetical order again, and I have to start right-clicking again! Maddening. I did once get the link on the Start Menu to sort in date order, but I don't recall how I did it sadly - I certainly can't get it to work now. But surely the folder itself should stay in the sort view I set for it? Why does it change back all by itself and how can I fix it so that it stays in date modified order?

Now, for some reason, Recent Items on the Start Menu only seems to display links to documents and saved web pages. It will not store the mp3 I use or any piece of music for that matter. Feb 24, 2011I have an HP Pavilion Desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate (AMD processor). Started working this morning and my Logitech USB wireless mouse didn't work. Tried it in another computer and it worked fine. Got a message when I plugged in the dongle that said "one of the USB devices attached to this computer malfunctioned and the computer does not recognize it." I talked to both HP and Logitech. I updated the Logitech drivers (Setpoint 6.20), but that didn't help. HP wants me to do a system restore, which I am loathe to do (the last time it totally trashed my computer).

Sep 18, 2012Ive recently built a new machine about a month or two ago and I have been having an issue within the last couple of weeks where when im playing d3 the keyboard and mouse will quit responding. They both still receive power as the lights are on. Then once you restart everything will work and start playing again it could work for 10 seconds or 6 hours before it quits responding and you have to restart again.
So far I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb controllers, ive updated the motherboard chipset. Ive also tried switching usb ports. I also have this combo hooked up to a kvm switch and when it quits responding I can flip over to the other computer and it will work fine. So that leads me to believe its a software or driver issue but as far as I know ive already reinstalled everything.

May 20, 2012I bought a Asus U36J laptop back in April of last year and ever since then I have been beating around an issue that I dont seem to be able to resolve one way or the other. When ever the laptop is on battery and in battery saving mode it has my taskbar on autohide. If I turn that off, then it stays off right until it is put back into battery saving mode at which point it is "magically" ticked on again.
Is there no way to simply disable that feature, as its annoying me greatly. I know its tied into the battery saving desktop, and I want to keep the battery saving desktop but want a full taskbar all the time. I found a supposed fix to make that happen, and while it actually makes the taskbar appear all the time, it still is a bad hack as any windows I have open wont "attach" to the taskbar but attaches to the buttom of the screen.
So for the love of god is there no sane way for me to keep the battery saving desktop but get rid of the autohiding taskbar. Otherwise I know Asus most likely wont be my laptop of choice next time aroumd.

I frequently plug in new hard drives to the system using various USB to IDE or SATA adapters and now when I plug in a new hard drive with any of these USB adapters, it does not get a drive letter assigned to the volumes on the drive. If I go to Disk Management, the drives show up, and so do their partitions, and I can manually assign a drive letter to it, but this gets rather tedious. Any idea why it quit doing it automatically and how to get it to automatically assign drive letters once again?? I figured maybe it ran out of letters, so I went in the registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMMountedDevices and deleted all the remembered drive letter assignments in there, but that didn't help any.

Jan 17, 2012My sister sent our PC to her friend to have Windows 7 put on it and now the C: drive is almost maxed out. I don't know if it was that way before it was sent out or not, but it's definitely closer to the max than i would like it to be. I was able to clear about 30gb of space so now there's about 45gb worth of free space out of 143gb total. I have absolutely NO clue what is taking up so much space. Any help to get that number down would be great. We don't have an exorbitant amount of movies, pictures or music files on the computer either. So i'm really lost as to where it could be coming from.
