How do I clear all recent lists from a specific program in start menu? I don't want to disable the recent program/list feature globally, just want to in one click clear all recent lists from that specific program instead of manually one at a time.
I've noted that Firefox has an about:config (browser.download.manager.addToRecentDocs) setting that is supposed to make it not put the downloads into the Recent Items list (I dislike how downloads clog it up). However, it doesn't work.
If I open the download, then it won't show up but that's a poor workaround. The question is if there's a per-program method to determine what will go into the Recent Items list or am I up the creek without a paddle?
Well for some reason windows 7 has decided that it will not let me remove the recent programs from this liste the ones that i well honestly do not use. It just won't let me do that but yet i could on Windows Vista.
Is there a way to control a single program from appearing on the recent programs list? I use Keepass for password management and have the program set to not remember the path of the database or key file. However, whenever I run the program, it gets populated on the recent programs list pointing straight to the location of the key file and database. Pinning the program to the taskbar does the same thing as well. I really do not want to disable the recent programs display, but I don't want anyone to be able to just have access to my passwords because the icon is right there for them to click on.
When i start run and type any drive letter e.g: D, then all the recently opened items from that drive are listed. How do I clear this list? The exact problem is described in this thread as well and I've tried the solution mentioned here:[URL]
I unfortunately listened to the husband of one of my wife's friends and ran CCleaner on my Win 7 PC and now the Recent Items list on my Start Menu, which I use a lot, is totally fouled up. The settings are correct and I've edited the registry but the number of items displayed is never consistent, never more than 6, and sometimes disappearing completely, whereas I have it set to store 10 items.
I enjoy windows 7, and I love the new jumplist feature. Problem is, in order to use it I have to enable the "Store and display recently opened items in the start menu and taskbar".
I can pin folders that I frequently visit, and the same goes for just about anything else - I do NOT want to see the recent files, websites, or folders that I have visited. If I disable it completely though, it completely destroys the ability to use custom jumplists.
Steam has a very cool jumplist feature, I'm able to change my status on it, pin favorite games to it, as well as open specific tabs. The program "Jumplist Launcher" also lets me create categories to use for programs and games, and I love it.
In order to use all that however, I have to enable recent items. Those items clutter the crap out of my jumplists and they're annoying to clear, so I'm wondering if anybody knows how I can completely disable the ability to see these. Can anything be done other than simply deleting everything in the recent items folder?
I followed the tutorial here but that's not necessarily what I need, I wanted to know if there was a way to turn off recent docs that can be viewed when highlighting on a certain program. For example, Paint in the screenshot.
I'm having a bit of an odd problem with the "Recent Items" menu on the start menu. I have found many google searches on this topic but none that answer my particular question. the question I have is simple can I set it up so that the recent items menu only shows recently opened documents and pics and NOT recently used programs? Recently used programs just clutter up the list and feat the purpose of it being there at all as I have quick launch icons for the programs I use frequently. I'd like the recent Items list to function the way the recent documents list did in vista, as this is ALOT more useful and it only included recent documents and pcitures, not programs. The idea is that I have a short cut to documents I am using frequently without having to go the long route of locating them on my computer to opent them.
I downloaded Adobe Shockwave Player which is needed to view a file (.swf), and it appears in the control panel as an installed program. However, it does not appear as a default program when I am trying to use the "associate a file type or protocal with a specific program" even when I press the browse list. The program also does not appear when I "right click" the file itself and use the open command. The program also does not appear in the list of programs on the "All Progams: list when clicking the windows icon. So, can someone tell me how to get programs onto the default list....(Please, I have seen a number of threads that talk about how to "set" the default program which I am well aware of...I need to know how to get a program to be recognized and incoroporated as part of the list).
I know they removed the "classic startmenu" but the only thing I miss is the "All Programs" list. I hate having to click, then scroll, then click again. With all the new UI improvements you would think they would of realized to just open the folder on hover or allow a blow out list.
I do have it set to open on hover, but it doesnt work for the inside area. So far it's my only complaint about 7, the little hovers for multiple windows is awesome.
When i click the start button and move my mouse to all programs it changes but there are no list of them, it is all white. When i right click the all programs and choose open i can see that all programs are there and they all work fine.
I didn't had this problem from start, it happened recently.
Of reg cleaners i only use CCleaner and it didn't make any problems for sure.
I am running W7 Ultimate 32-bit. I have two programs that have stopped running on startup. One is 'everything' - a better search engine, the other is 'Karen's Time sync' - a clock sync program. I have UAC enabled and when they did run, they asked for permission to continue. Now they don't run at all unless I start them manually. Autoruns says: Everything is in HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionRun Time Sync.lnk is in C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsStartup

How to blacklist an application from showing up on the programs list (the lists of app that you usually open, just above the windows logo when you first click onto it..)
I had an issue with a Corel product yesterday and the Tech said "it's a quick Registry fix", logged in and made the change....then fixed it so that I now have to do a complete reinstall. It's as if he created a whole new profile, so now I can't run certain programs even though they appear on the Program list.Rather that wrestle with a fix, easier to reinstall the software. The problem is that a directory that was once visible to me previously that contained 5gb of files is no longer visible. This apparent new Identity (or whatever they did) doesn't recognize it.The files are there. If I go to Computer, right click, Everything and do a text search for files I know are there, I can see them.Is there some freeware available that will allow me to browse everything on the harddrive, no matter which Identity created it?
Anybody knows why I dont have VLC in that list? I've reinstalled a couple of times and it still doesn't show up. I'm not asking this not because I dont know how to set a file association with VLC but just out of curiosity. It should be there right? It was there in my Vista very much. Im on 7 RTM now.
How do you add a program to the list of Default Programs in Windows 7? For example Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007. It doesn't show in the list
On XP there is a facility to add programs to a file type - you can add more than one program, and each one has a name (which appears in the pulldown list), and a program location, which can have options added to it, e.g. an html file could have a browse function, and an edit function (I want to use SeaMonkey with a -compose option, assuming I can do this). I don't want to have to pick one program as the default unless the other one is easily accessible. I'm sure Windows 7 wouldn't kill a very useful XP facility... would they?!
caught what looked like a bug, today--from an emial, I'm guessing-- everything slowed down until it virtually stopped and I manually powered down/into safe mode to work on it. It cost me an entire am to run thru all my virus 'catchers' (and came up with exactly NOTHING to show for it!!) whatever it was has, I guess, been erradicated, as everything feels back to normal.everything looks ok(except a couple of desktop icons were rearranged--but that can/does happen anyway). As I said--every looks/seems to be ok. However when I went into 'start' all the info that should be showing on the left side of that 1st page is blank! all the names on the right seems ok/present. AND when I go to 'all progs' there are no "obvious' omissions(not that I'm sure I'd recognize that one!)
I've been using comodo bkup(goes off like every night and is NOT an online bkup) and NOW, when I actually need it to get the 5/12 data, I cannot access it(but that's grist for a later discussion!!!!).so there are, apparently, for all intents/purposes NO backups to pull from. it only tells me "unabgle to open bkup file"... no matter which entry I highlight. This was(supposedly) setup by the tech that did the work on this new box so it 'should' have been ok(NOT!!!).any insight into what I can/need to do to get the backup part to work properly for the restore part CAN work?
After setting up a new install of Windows 7 Professional 64bit on a Samsung laptop (previously had home premium installed). I am having these issues that I am not sure of how to resolve:
1) when clicking on the start button the programs screen pops open but NO recent programs or pinned programs show up in the list without going to ALL Programs.
2) Laptop monitor and 20" LCD Desktop monitor both are running and the neither one will go above 1366 x 768 resolution setting. I have reinstall the latest Nvidia Gforce drivers with no change.
I posted a thread about this problem last week in this thread: Problem installing MyDefrag 4.1.1
Basically the problem is that after installing some programs, the "All Programs" list in the start menu disappears and is just blank. At the time I thought the problem was only with MyDefrag but today I installed the microsoft Intellitype 6.1 software for my keyboard and the same thing happened. Has anyone else had a similar problem.
I have a really weird problem here. Pinning certain apps to the superbar causes them to stop appearing in the 'frequently used programs' list - but only for certain programs; currently I've noticed it with DestroyTwitter (an Adobe Air app) but more puzzlingly, with Winamp and VLC media player.
DestroyTwitter is set to minimize/close to systray and Winamp is docked but not set to appear in the superbar at all - so its icon is always in the systray even while it's technically not 'minimized' but hidden at the top of my screen.
On the other hand, VLC doesn't have any special tray settings. Also, Digsby works fine pinned and in the recent menu, and it's set to close to systray (though it minimizes to taskbar).
I know opening an app from the pinned apps doesn't 'count' towards the use count that the frequently used programs list is based on - but even opening them from their start menu entries doesn't make any difference until I manually unpin the app. The rest of the frequently used programs list works fine.
I can't figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts? (I've tried changing the minimize-to-tray settings, with no difference).
