View 5 RepliesWell for some reason windows 7 has decided that it will not let me remove the recent programs from this liste the ones that i well honestly do not use. It just won't let me do that but yet i could on Windows Vista.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI unfortunately listened to the husband of one of my wife's friends and ran CCleaner on my Win 7 PC and now the Recent Items list on my Start Menu, which I use a lot, is totally fouled up. The settings are correct and I've edited the registry but the number of items displayed is never consistent, never more than 6, and sometimes disappearing completely, whereas I have it set to store 10 items.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy recently used program list, keeps wiping, keeps disappearing . . .
I start my PC, the the list starts getting populated, but then after some time, it is empty again . . .
The same happens to recent items list . . .
I had the same problem with Vista, i even tried that registry fix, nothing solved for me
Suggestions to solve this ?
Is there a way to control a single program from appearing on the recent programs list? I use Keepass for password management and have the program set to not remember the path of the database or key file. However, whenever I run the program, it gets populated on the recent programs list pointing straight to the location of the key file and database. Pinning the program to the taskbar does the same thing as well. I really do not want to disable the recent programs display, but I don't want anyone to be able to just have access to my passwords because the icon is right there for them to click on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm configuring Windows 7 Enterprise for my office. I've gone through and installed all the programs. I then do the deal where I log in locally and copy my profile and make it the Default profile.
Anyway, when I log in using my profile (Domain Admin) no problems! When i log in as a typical user (without admin rights) I don't see anything on the left side of the start menu (recent programs). I open Word, Excel, etc. but nothing is ever added to the recentfavorite program list.
I gave up trying to get the Recent Documents link to work on the Start Menu - what is the point of them being in alphabetical order? So I just created a shortcut to the Recent folder on my desktop and started using that. But even there I can't keep it sorted in 'date modified' order. It stays that way for an hour or so, but when I go back the folder has sorted itself in alphabetical order again, and I have to start right-clicking again! Maddening. I did once get the link on the Start Menu to sort in date order, but I don't recall how I did it sadly - I certainly can't get it to work now. But surely the folder itself should stay in the sort view I set for it? Why does it change back all by itself and how can I fix it so that it stays in date modified order?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI posted a thread about this problem last week in this thread: Problem installing MyDefrag 4.1.1
Basically the problem is that after installing some programs, the "All Programs" list in the start menu disappears and is just blank. At the time I thought the problem was only with MyDefrag but today I installed the microsoft Intellitype 6.1 software for my keyboard and the same thing happened. Has anyone else had a similar problem.
After I restart, or turn off-turn on my pc and go start -> all programs, Windows 7 seems to hang for 7-10 seconds sometimes, then the list appears. After that first "load" of the programs list, it opens normally. I have indexed the start menu, as well as the rest of my drive. Any ideas about what might be causing this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedA client of mine (I'm an IT summer temp in a production facility) recently contracted the Windows 7 Recovery virus and contacted me to fix it. Having encountered the XP version recently and resolved the issue, I was able to easily remove the virus and associated rootkit. The difference this time was that unhide.exe failed to restore the start>all programs menu shortcuts, although it did manage to restore the folder structure. I read through and followed the instructions of another thread here: [URL]. Which did not resolve the issue. The output given by SystemLook is as follows:

I hope this is the correct place to ask this question. I come from Window XP. I am used to see my long list of programs all spread out so I can see what I have w/o scrolling.
Is there a way to fully display my installed programs w/o scrolling in such a small window above the start button? Have I asked this clearly? LOL. Sometimes, I may not iterate what I am trying to ask.
The new feature of Windows 7 that puts the little arrow on the right side of certain recently used programs, and when expanded shows different tasks. How do I disable this feature? I don't want to see the little arrows, all I do is open the programs, the arrows sometimes get in the way and annoy me. I searched but these keywords didn't yield anything specific to what I was looking for.
I assume it's pretty easy to change, I think I did it on this (Build 7000) computer, but I just setup a Vlited RC1 and can't figure out how to get rid of the arrows it added on the right of the programs on the start menu.

View 0 Replies View RelatedMy computer recently prompted me to do a virus scan and after rebooting, it erased all the files and programs on it. I read some posts stating to "unhide" all the folders in windows explorer to help the situation. That seemed to restore alot of programs, but I still can't launch certain programs off the Start Menu nor can I see their shortcut in Windows Explorer. I'm able to open files using those programs from Windows explorer, I just cant open the program itself from the Start Menu. The folders of those programs on the Start Menu say "empty" and no program is displayed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just migrating over to Windows 7, and am having a hard time with the start menu. I've downloaded Classic Shell so the menu looks like XP again, but I noticed that when I look at 'all programs' some of my programs aren't there. Turns out Windows 7 has two program folders, apparently one is for purely 64-bit programs and the other for ones that still use 32-bit. Does anyone know how I can get both of these folders to show up in the start menu, preferably combined? At the moment, I can only find the 64-bit folder, and can't find the 32-bit folder in the start menu at all.

Is this something to do with searching preferences?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I mount a removeable media such as USB Stick or a TrueCrypt file volume (with rm option) then I cannot pin prgms from these medias/drives to the taskbar nor pin files to the Start menu. Is there really no way to disable this No-Pin-Protection? Under WinXP this worked without problems.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEssentially, upon starting up my computer, from time to time, I have no yet been able to isolate what may cause this issue, I will find that I cannot launch programs from their shortcuts in the Quick Start or Taskbar menu. As of right now I have not tried to launch said programs from the original .exe file in this scenario.I've noticed that when I try to open these programs from the Taskbar, the icon will be surrounded by a square to indicate that it is active, but, after a period of maybe 5 seconds or so, sometimes longer, it will disappear and the program will no longer look active. Opening up the task manager, the programs usually show up in the Processes under the appropriate name. Multiple instances of a program can appear, even when, under normal circumstances, multiple instances aren't allowed (such as with Firefox). The processes will usually show a static amount of memory used, like 108k for any firefox.exe in the process list, and will simply sit there until they are ended, despite the program not actually running. When this happens I generally have to restart the computer and hope it works on the restart.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've noted that Firefox has an about:config (browser.download.manager.addToRecentDocs) setting that is supposed to make it not put the downloads into the Recent Items list (I dislike how downloads clog it up). However, it doesn't work.
If I open the download, then it won't show up but that's a poor workaround. The question is if there's a per-program method to determine what will go into the Recent Items list or am I up the creek without a paddle?
