WMC Plays TV Audio But No Video Display (black Screen)
Mar 7, 2012
I have a problem playing live TV using Windows Media Player. I can select different TV channels without a problem. I can hear the audio clearly. However, i can not watch anything as it displays a black screen. I originally used WinTV (version 7, with the newest updated driver and software) and works fine. For video card, I have a GTX260 with the latest version (295.73) installed. I've tried different versions of driver (259.xx to 285.xx) to no avail. When I tried setting up the TV tuner it detects the tuner as Analog Cable (tuner 1) which I assume is the WinTV tuner.
I have a desktop PC and a laptop and I edited a video and put it on a flash drive. When I play it on my laptop, only audio plays. The file is 258mb but the flash drive has 408mb free, so it's not a memory issue or anything like that. I have no idea what is going on. Both PC's are windows 7.
I recently desc covered that besides VLC on my laptop all the other video player are not able to work properly (meaning,, Windows Media Player 12, Cyberlink PowerDVD12 and WMPC are able to play only the audio, but not the video, just black screen),, BUT with VLC is no problem playing any video format!! The thing is that I didn't have this problem previously,, all my video players were able to play all the same video files, which they can't now! I have the latest AMD Radeon HD video drivers installed (just after I discovered the problem).
I have previously made this trade in a "Graphic Cards" section,, I guess it was wrong so I am re-posting it here "Music, Pictures & Video"
So I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and my files randomly play or pause, whether it's a song, or a movie or a TV show. Sometimes it goes for hours not giving me problems, but then at some point randomly pauses and continues, either at like half second intervals, few seconds, or even like 20 seconds after it pauses, it randomly plays again.
I play them off my hard drive and off my external, it's not my external that's the problem I don't think. I'm thinking maybe my wireless adapter is a problem? I don't know.
If I downloaded HijackThis and gave you guys or the guys there a log, would they be able to identify what's causing this, or would it just show as me clicking pause and play, because it does it by itself...
I don't have a virus, I didn't access the internet for more than a few days and I didn't go on any malicious sites, I have AV, but the wireless isn't even on and it's a new build, I know I don't have a virus.

The thing is that I didn't have this problem previously,, all my video players were able to play all the same video files, which they can't now! I have the latest AMD Radeon HD video drivers installed. As I mentioned I didn't have this problem before,, with a previous versions of the AMD graphics card driver. This happened to my laptop a while ago already,, since I have this problem I updated my video drivers 5 or 6 times at least, and no change so far!Why am I assuming that the cause of my problem is the graphics card driver is, for ex. when I had just re- installed my windows (fresh! from Windows 7 to Windows 8),, the video playback was working, while the graphic card was running on the drivers provided by Microsoft! as soon as I am installing the driver for my model of AMD Radeon graphic card I am staring to have the problem. As I mentioned I have the problem for some time already, during this time I re-installed my Windows couple of time, plus I even changed the version of the windows (7to8), for the moment I have the last version of video driver installed, I haven't installed ANY codecs?
After wrestling with 'black screen' on wake up issues and 'Display driver stopped...' pop-ups, I joined the forum today and thought I'd start a thread with a copy of a reply I posted to some older threads on SevenForums related to this issue.
I think some of the black screen video driver troubles are being caused by either incompatible Power Plan settings... or poor uninstalls of older video drivers... or both. this is only a suspicion and nowhere near a certainty, which is really why I'm putting it out there.
my screen goes all black for a couple of seconds then when it returns the open tabs/sites are kinda inactive for another couple of seconds, or when i click on another window, it is highlighted but the content is of another site/tab. when this happens, there is usually a message at the bottom left of the screen that "Display driver has stopped working and recovered problems"
Recently and all of a sudden (perhaps after using a VGS projector) when i boot my laptop i do not get any video display - not even my TOSHIBA POST or the "starting windows" screen. But when the boot gets to the login screen it dispalys on my laptop and from thereon everything is fine and normal
If i connect an external monitor or projector i can see everything right from the very beginning on the external monitor such as the TOSHIBA POST and the starting wndows etc. When the login screen appears the dispaly from the external monitor dissappears and the dispaly returns to my laptop screen after which everything is normal.
About 6 months ago I had several issues with my screen flickering. I thought it was just an old monitor so I replaces it. No problems, however the last 48 hours my screen goes black then sometimes it will come back on and say that my display driver crashed. I've tried looking around but i see no error reports or anything on the driver. I am using a NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS. I just uploaded the complete system specs to the website.
am using windows live photo gallery for a screensaver. It plays all photo and video except videos with in the MOV format. I have searched for a solution and have not found a resolution. So now I am searching for a screensaver that plays all video and photo files. I found a couple but you have to "build" it by pointing the screensaver to specific files. Does anyone know of a screen saver that would play all photo and video files by just pointing them to the folder containing the photos and videos?
My Toshiba laptop recently began to display a black screen upon start up. The starting windows screen appears, and then simply displays a black screen with cursor instead of login, and if I let it sit, it then restarts my whole system. However, I can force restart, and it allows me to run the computer in safe mode, and safe mode with networking support. My Mcafee Total Protection displays that my computer is at risk, but when I run a full system scan through safe mode, it produces no results. I then ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and it to yielded no results. Im thinking the best fix might be a nice baseball bat.
All of a sudden my screen was black. my background , wallpaper are gone.I can change it to a different but I can't get my old background back. When I try to reset them , it goes black. I didn't do anything to it that I can think of.
I got a new video card at work to install and nothing will show up when I plug it in. I can go through the computers VGA and it works fine, but when I go to the video card only a black screen. Any help? Can't download drivers either, only black screen upon boot.
After playing ESV Skyrim for a bit, i put it into hibernation mode accidentaly, by shutting down my laptop. As soon as i loaded it back up again, no audio played. When i go on to audio mixer it either crashes and says theres a problem, or i move it to turn the volume up, and it doesn't make a sound!
I have ran into a new problem with my media player, I tried to play a movie from a tv series and the video plays great but absolutely no sound. I tried music and it won't play either. I did some little research and I keep coming across things about codecs, I don't know what codec I need for windows media 12. I also have divx player and it wont let out a sound either. I'm clueless from this point and also I have updated my drivers for just incase but no luck.
ive recently been having this problem for the last few days i thought i fixed it but it started happening again. not sure whats wrongalso this happen after i installed black ops on my computer off of steam.
I have been having a few strange little problems lately. But there is only one thing that is reproducible: When both my audio driver and my network driver are enabled, and a sound is played, the sound infinitely stutters and windows totally freezes. (There is no BSOD, the screen and cursor just remain frozen). If either device/driver is enabled independently, the computer seems to work.
I recently installed Skype on Win 8 and my video shows a black screen. However in Win 7 my Skype video shows whole environment clearly (no black screen).
If I am streaming a video online the screen will get fuzzy and freeze. I will then get the blue screen which will mention that there is a problem with my display driver. This has happened many times. I won't be able to do anything after that. I can't even turn off the computer. I just have to wait for the battery to die so that it will turn off.
verything was working fine, i could use media center for watching TV, recording. ect .. all of it. I didn't install any updates, or add any new hardware or anything. I should do the computer started it back up, turn on WMC went to live TV and all i get is a BLACK WINDOW, with sound .. but no picutre
OS Windows 7 64 Bit ATI Radeon HD 4670 - Last driver update July 7th 2012 Driver version 8.970.100.300 TV Tuner - Hauppauge 950Q Mother Board - GA-H55M-S2V V1.4
I'm so at a lost as to why video won't work. I use WINTV7 and everything is perfect. Like to use WMC as it is had your tv listings and and quickly record what i want.
i've just built a htpc using some old bits from a gaming pc, but when streaming videos full screen the audio and video are very choppy, with the audio including crackling sounds. for example, if i watch a 1080p video on Internet, it works reasonably well (with the odd pop from the audio) but as the controls overlay (with the play, pause and video slider) slides away the video slows down and there is a lot of crackling from the audio. there is an even worse problem with bbc iplayer and skygo when watching on fullscreen as the entire time the video almost seems slowed down and the audio is very choppy. if however i watch a downloaded video fullscreen, there are absolutely no problems at all.i have only just build this pc so i believe all drivers are up to date. i'm using windows 7 and have therefore disabled aero to see if that helps (it helped slightly). the hardware is as follows:
cpu: core 2 duo e8400 at 3ghz graphics card: nvidia gt 430 motherboard: gigabyte ga x48 ds4 ram: 4gb ocz reaperx
for my old gaming pc i used all the same parts apart from using a gtx 460 for the graphics. this was then set up exactly the same way as this new htpc (into a samsung tv via hdmi from the graphics card) and yet worked absolutely fine. so the only thing that has changed is the graphics card, but the gt 430 is supposed to be able to easily handle hd video and audio.
The problem is that when the bootscreen is showing, the animation plays just a bit and then it freezes, but windows boots ok. How do I fix the bootscreen animation?
Every time I boot my PC with the speakers on, some annoying 8-bit sounding music plays whenever the login screen opens up, before I entered my password.I've tried running a malwarebytes scan but it didn't find anything. I don't remember installing anything that would cause it, and I haven't rebooted it in a while so I have no clue when it was added to my system.
how can I play a video in jet audio (or any other media program) on one monitor while I play a fullscreen game on the other. I can get it to work with streams off of website like own3d.tv and twitch.tv, and I can even run the streams in full screen. However when I try to run a movie through jet audio or even just play music through zune player, they freeze up. The audio will still come through, but either the picture is frozen in place or the zune player seems to get frozen.
Starting about a month ago, after six to seven months of my laptop working fine, I've been getting video and audio stuttering whenever gaming or watching most HD videos and after messing around with my drivers I realized that whenever my Realtek HD Audio drivers are disabled my video runs flawlessly, but when enabled both video and audio stutter. I'm using a Sony VAIO laptop so I'm assuming that the sound card isn't easily replaceable. I've tried using the newest drivers straight from Realtek's website and also the outdated driver provided by Sony's website, both of which result in the same stuttering. Sony has also replaced the motherboard once and it did not resolve the issue.I'm currently running Windows 7 with 6gb of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 330M graphics card.
I changed this in the registry some time ago to prevent my child from messing with it. Now I can't remember how I did it. It's not corrupted drivers or anything
I have a laptop. I got a monitor that I use as secondary display.I use that monitor for tv shows while playing on primary, or that was the plan. When I start gta san andreas, the second screen goes black. But it's only the video. If I take VLC out of full screen, I can see the desktop. So basically, video doesnt work on secondary display while playing game on primary one.
