W7 Not Asking For Passkey When Connecting To WEP Wifi
Dec 21, 2009
Currently I am using a Dell laptop with XP which is connected to my house's wireless connection. SSID itself is an open WEP. I had no problem connecting with the XP laptop; it asked me for a password, I put it in and it worked. When I try connecting with my other Dell laptop with Windows 7, it won't ask me for a password and say, "Windows was unable to connect to _____."
I then tried manually connecting to the wireless connection under the network settings. I've tried all WEP options and made sure the password was correct countless times and still I'm unable to connect to the wifi.
I spoke with a Dell representative, but all they suggested was to pay for another help service.
I am having problems connecting to wifi when abroad I have been using Vista on my laptop and last year there was not a problem but this year I was in France for 7 weeks and nearly evertime I tried to connect (using the appropriate password and getting full strenth wifi it would not connect, it kept stating that it was identifying and would not connect, so I would try fiddling about with various settings and sometimes it would connect. There was times when I could not get on and the people all around were connected. So fed up with this happening all the time I bought a new notebook and was in Spain last week and I still could not get connected with all the same things happening as with my old laptop.I was in France for 7 weeks and nearly evertime I tried to connect (using the appropriate password and getting full strenth wifi it would not connect, it kept stating that it was identifying and would not connect, so I would try fiddling about with various settings and sometimes it would connect. I am an owner of a dell studio 17 laptop. It was pre installed with windows vista, 2 days back I upgraded my laptop to windows 7 ultimate x64. Since then I am unable to connect to my internet.
My computer used to connect perfectly to wifi. Then I tried setting up an access point through my laptop, using netsh commands, and now it won't connect at all. When I boot to Ubuntu however, it works fine
i have two laptops at home. i want to share files with them using the Wi-FI. i created an ad-hoc network and was able to share files but the thing was that the speed of the transfer is very slow around 700 Kbps. Is there a way i can improve the speed?
I have two operating systems installed on my Sony Vaio VPCF115FG, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
Wi-Fi is working fine on both, however, LAN connections are only working on Windows 8 but not Windows 7. It reads the LAN connection in Windows 7 but it does not actually connect to the internet. I honestly tried everything, including uninstalling the LAN driver and reinstalling it, no use.
1st, sorry for my English, I'm french and I'm not really good in IT.I have an ASUS with an Athros Wireless R9285.Since the last update, I can't connect in wifi anymore (but it's ok with the cable, and ok with my other computer).I first though it was the on/off wifi button, or the Fn/F2 command, but no. Then, I tried to connect/unconnect the card, change the power specification, try all the anti viruses I've got and make a "restauration" at a date before the update and so the issue.
I've been trying to connect my kindle to wifi by turning my laptops wifi card into a hotspot. The kindle doesn't support peer-to-peer networks so the ad hoc option obviously failed. However two people where able to make it work on a iMac: Connecting Kindle 3 to a MacBook wifi network - kindle Discussion Forum
by configuring the kindle to these settings: IP 10.0.2.2 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Router 10.0.2.1 DNS 10.0.2.1
Can this be done on windows 7? If not will it work if I do it on windows server 2008 r2 via creating a dhcp server?
I seem to have a problem with my WiFi. Left-clicking the wireless icon in system tray doesn't work as in literally nothing happens. When I open the network and sharing center and click on "connect to a network" then also nothing happens. Right now it's only a minor problem, because my laptop auto-connects to networks it already knows but when I want to connect to a public WiFi in a cafe for example I can't look up any networks. Also I'd like to point out that setting up a new connection to connect to a WiFi works but for that I need to already know the network name and security type. Windows can't find any problems either and I've reinstalled all network adapter drivers.
I have Windows 7 home and have run into a bit of an issue. I have a program on my computer that runs through the internet. At my home, it connects fine and I am able to run it without any issues, but I go to school and connect to their WiFi and it stalls on the connecting prompt. Everything else I run and the internet works fine, I have re-installed the program and made sure it wasn't blocked from public access on firewall.
I was on my laptop, connected to the Internet, going about as normal. My Wifi Internet went out completely and then would not reconnect. When I tried plugging directly in to our modem, it came up with error 633. It seems like one of my programs is interfering with it being able to connect. I haven't added or changed any programs recently, I've only uninstalled a few games/programs that weren't in any way related to the modem.
What programs could be the cause of error 633? Is there a list? Or is there another way to fix it? I can add more detail if needed. Well, I went out today and left my computer on while I was gone. When I came back, it was connected to the Wifi again. I've been using it for a bit, but now it's going on and off again. It's on for the moment though...
I have used this router for 3 years with the same key on 3 laptops. After ISP outage was sorted at the exchange one laptop ceased to remember the passkey. Others do.
How can I get it to save that key?
Tried suggested solutions in other threads with no solution. Eg., removal wireless network and re-enter it. I cannot remove it; I can disconnect, but how to remove it?
Trying to Add a new W'network lists none present (but I am connected) and after entering new W'network name, etc., I get "Access is Denied".
I just added a password to my home network. But now that I have a password I cant connect without the ehternet cable. All other devices ie T.V, desktop upstairs, ps3 and xbox and smart phones can connect wirelessly. The only device that wont let me connect wirelessly is the laptop that I used to set up the passkey. Furthermore when connecting to the network on the other devices it doesnt ask for the password.
I installed all the drivers available from the Gigabyte website for some reason the wifi function simply does not work. Also, the screen plugged into the 7950 works fine but the other screen connected into the motherboard gets the message "no signal detected".
I have - A Laptop with Windows 7 UltimateA Linksys Wireless Router with ports which are all Ethernet ports (i.e. no USB ports).A Tata Photon Plus (which is basically a Wireless USB Modem)I have been trying to setup a wireless network to have my handheld devices connect to the internet.I have - Connected the Ethernet port of my laptop to one of the Ethernet Ports of my Wireless Router.I have connected my Wireless USB Modem to my laptop (as my Router does not have a USM port). My Questions While I have been able to setup the Wireless Network, the Network shows "No Internet Access". i have a samsung galaxy ace. my laptop is accessing internet through wifi from my friend's building. So can i access internet in my samsung galaxy through wifi from my laptop? if yes..how?
I have a office setup where two of the computers run on windows XP professional and the other two run on Windows 7 home edition. I want to connect all of them to a common printer through the port. Both the computers on win xp have been connected successfully but the other two on win 7 I am unable to connect, seems some patch is required.
I need to connect to a DNS Server over the internet. I have tried setting the DNS as the server IP but I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to this. The server is running Server 2008.
I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem or a Dell problem. My last 2 laptops were Gateway and I never had this issue, but I'm finding that A LOT of people are having this issue and no one seems to be able to help. I click on "find album info" to update my music library and the window pops up, but not much else. The little globe in the top left corner spins for a few seconds and my hourglass shows up until I move my cursor, but that's it. Just a blank white page.My browser of choice is Chrome, but I'm sure IE is default for this task.
1. I've made sure [URL] is listed in my trusted zone in internet options.
2. I've turned off wmp in "turn on or off features," rebooted and turned it back on again.
3. I've made sure in wmp I allow internet to replace missing info by going to organize - options - library
4. I never have "work offline" checked - ever - but I checked just to make sure.
5. I'm not 100% positive, but I'm sure my firewall settings are okay.
This has been driving me crazy for weeks. I really miss my Gateway that ran Vista because the player was a lot better and I miss the advance tag editor. And my last Gateway ran Windows 7 but I never ran into this problem. I'm wondering if this is a Dell problem. I just got this about a month ago and the 1st thing I tried to do was install Chrome because I abhor IE. But IE wouldn't let me download Chrome. Finally I found the .exe file on my last pc and was able to install that way. Could these issues be related? Maybe it's IE9.Also, some people get a script error when they click "update album info," but I (and a few others) just get a blank window.

I have a Packard Bell EasyNote TJ71 laptop running windows 7. I use an HDMI cable to attatch to a flat screen TV and generally have no problem bringing up the second screen then changing over to the TV as the one screen when I watch a movie. I only need to do this as closing the lid on the portable switches it off.The problem I have is that I can not get the sound transferred to the TV,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that I purchased in the USA, brought to the UK - had hard drive failure; which was replaced and then had Windows 7 OS installed (and now the laptop thinks it's a UK laptop too - ie: the @ symbol has moved - etc)... None of this has been a problem until recently when I moved back to the USA. I have a TV that I want to hook this laptop up to, so that we can view my video files on a bigger screen - but I've found that my laptop is displaying in PAL format - while the TV must have it in NTSC. I've been searching around and I cannot seem to find out where to change that over.... Should I put in an American DVD into the dvd player and switch regions?
When I connect my laptop to my LCD TV I can see windows 7 starting to load on the TV screen. As soon as Windows has installed the TV is not visible and windows can't detect it. Also some icons dissapear off my laptop screen.
I have purchase a switch to connect a laptop to a desktop computer, the first one having windows 7 (64 bits) and the second one having windows xp (sp 2 and 32 bits).have done the cables connection and nothing, absolutely nothing happens. The switch is OVISLINK EVO-FSH5C Fast Ethernet Switch
I have a Netgear Wireless Router WGR614-6VGUKS and a Netgear ADSL modem Router DG834 v4. Is it possible to connect to the Net wirelessly using these 2 and if so how? I have tried but with no success but not sure about order and connections. Looked on the Net but found info there confusing and not really answering my questions.
I have a hp 9810 us. Windows 7 os and Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter and a NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller/ I ran Combofix and when I boot up the computer The wi fi doesn't automaticly connect to the router. There is a switch on the front of the laptop with a indicator light red for off and blue for on. the switch is in the on position but I have to reset it in order for the computer to connect to the router.
I installed WINDOWS FIREWALL CONTROL on my Windows 7 system. I have Internet access with games but not with FIREFOX or MAIL WASHER PRO. I decided to not use WINDOWS FIREWALL CONTROL and deleted it from my computer (there was no uninstall entry). Now even though FIREFOX and MAILWASHER PRO is listed as being allowed by the Windows firewall I can not access the Internet. Should I use the system restore feature or am I missing something else. If I turn off the firewall I have access but of course that is not an option I want to go with
I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 on it and I just purchased a VGA cord in order to use my 50 inch Samsung Plasma TV as a monitor. (My main reason for doing this was to watch videos from HBO GO on it) I was able to get the hook up right and it does work; however, what is happening is that every once in a while, the picture on the TV screen disappears and it shifts back to my laptop screen. This lasts for about two or three seconds, then it shifts back to the TV screen. This does not appear to be happening at regular intervals; sometimes it happens ten times in a few minutes, sometimes it goes several minutes without happening.
My tv has a DVI-D "hdtv" input, and my Dell latitude d620 has a vga output, so I bought a vga to DVI-D adapter, but either my computer or tv still won't pick up each other's signal, and thus I am still left unable to view my computer on my TV. The TV doesn't have a vga input, nor does it say "computer" anywhere, as the newer tvs do.
I have an AOC 936swa LCD monitor and want to try and run my PS3 through it. The input into the monitor is via D-Sub and USB. I made the schoolboy error of thinking it was a DVI and buying an HDMI to DVI cable...face-to-palm moment there!
Is there an HDMI to D-Sub cable? I can't imagine the USB will be able to carry it. The output from from the PS3 is bog standard.
