It just happened out of nowhere. My sound was working fine last night, then this morning I played a video and there was no sound. I clicked the volume icon in the task bar to see if I could hear the 'ping' when you adjust volume but it repeatedly froze and crashed (it's still doing this now after rebooting). Sound in control panel also crashes first thing when I try to open it. I want my sound back.
View 2 RepliesThe Volume Mixer in Windows 7 is supposed to show applications that are running sound, right? Well, mine shows some applications,like Firefox and Guild Wars 2 and Mozilla Thunderbird and KMPlayer. But it doesn't show volume for other applications that use sound like Winamp and ePSXe (playstation emulator). I'm playing Final Fantasy VIII on ePSXe and the game doesn't have a volume control itself for, say, music and/or sound effects. And I'd like to be able to turn down the sound on the emulator game so that the game volume doesn't intermingle with my music in the background played by Winamp.Is there a way I can add these applications to the Volume Mixer? Or, alternatively, is there a freeware/opensource program that will allow me to adjust the volume of individual programs?I am new here so hopefully I have done everything right. I am running Window 7 Ultimate on x64 bits with the Sandy Bridge i7-2600 core. Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo cancellation are disabled.
My problem with this driver is that from time to time, the volume on the Realtek mixer drops down immediately as shown on the screenshot.
Also, to certain programs that I am using, like Battlefield 2, the volume keeps resetting to very low even though I set it to volume level 28 before I closed the program. When I stop the recording or I closed the Midomi website (from screenshot), the tab drags back itself to 28 for iTune and the music played back at normal volume
How can I disable Realtek from keeping resetting my volume to low for the programs that I am using? Is this a bug? I tried reinstalling it did not fixed the issue. I tried putting the system volume to 28, and tried recording but the bug still exists.
I tried looking around the forum, but it seems to all point to the BIOS. My BIOS has been cleared which indicated clearing it again will not fix the problem.
Running windows 7 64-bit. Having trouble with opening my volume mixer. Does not open at all from taskbar or when i try from control panel>sounds. Ive tried looking up this problem on google, but I can never get mine solved. My speakers and headphones still work, but i need to take out the usb from the headphones each time i want to switch where the sound comes out from. Ive tried restarting my comp. Also validated files in sys32 folder from admin cmd. I just dont want to have to run a system restore to open this up.

The program is a game called Shores of Hazeron, the sound works fine, apart from the fact it isn't showing up in the volume mixer, and the game doesn't have any volume controls in its in-game settings. Which can be a bit annoying when you have the rumbling of a starship in your ear when you're trying to listen to music.

For example, if I clicked the volume icon it would have have a volume control for the Speakers (rear audio out), the headphones (front audio out), and the HDMI audio that my GTX460 sends. So I've not long migrated from XP to 7 and I've noticed that every time I watch or stream audio my Adobe Flash Player 11 which I like to set to 50% in Volume Mixer jumps up to 75% which makes the audio playback distorted & poor sound quality.
How do I get it to stay at 50% ? Usually I do like to set volumes to 75% which is what I've got my Realtek Device set to but Adobe crackles and sounds bad at 75% so I have to set it to 50%
right, you know where you can adjust the sound volume, you know, in the bottom right corner by the time! well, whenever i go to change the volume, i often get a window pop up that says 'not responding'

I have no idea why. i dont know if its a software issue or hardware issue. the mic is disabled and the sound mixer is enabled, i disabled it and reenabled it and it still didnt work, i went into the properties and everything is where it should be (volume, ect) i checked the actual mixer down by the clock and that sound was fine on everything to! the speakers are working video is working so i dont think its any of my cards and i hear the audio fine, theres nothing wrong otherwise. i feel like maybe its muted somewhere bc when i tried the mic that didnt work either.but i looked in every possible spot i even tried to update the drivers but nothing needed updating.

The application "System Sound" is disapearing in and out very quickly, not only in the mixer but In devices as well
What can I do to fix it? Maybe reinstall Windows 7 sound drivers?

Say a game for instance, if I put the volume to 20% in the sound mixer and then exit the game, then go back on the game and check the volume in sound mixer.Instead of it saying 20% still and remembering it resets the volume to 100%.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI realize the title happens frequently in general. I myself have had to go in and restore the device countless times on reboot. That's not the issue (default device, device enabled, etc).For some mysterious reason, my What U Hear is malfunctioning and picking up absolutely nothing as of last night's reboot. Prior to this for the last few years since being on Win 7, I've had no issues (other than the common restore the default, enable it, etc).
1. I had a power outage mid day yesterday. I'm pretty sure I didn't attempt to use my What U Hear after this outage, but DID use it just prior to the outage (but was not recording or anything when the outage hit, but SF 9.0 was open)
2. I have gone into the BIOS and disabled HD Audio (since my MOBO has onboard)... I really thought this second one was going to fix my problem, but no.
When I go to check my devices in the audio pop-up, it shows my speakers as the default playback device and the oscillator goes as I play something. When I look at the recording tab, with the What U hear device enabled & defaulted, the oscillator just sits there dead. When I go to properties and either select "default playback device" OR select my external speakers (both of which should be the speakers, WHICH DO oscillate and work just fine) it doesn't matter... What U Hear still does not pick anything up!
Not to long ago i had downloaded and installed windows 7 beta to my hp elite desktop and it seemed to work very good it was slightly faster than vista which was on it before but im also a gamer and have about 4 games on it and usually play with my 360 controller thruogh the usb port. Well while it was installing the driver for the controller it all the sudden stoped and said usb device unpluged so i jus said whatever and jus treid to use the keyboard and mouse but noticed my keyboard wasnt working so now i was thinkin great what now.
I tried all the usual things to get it to work even unistalling all the usb ports then restartin to let them reinstall to actually payin $40 for a pci usb card witch none of these things worked not even the new card witch was very agrivating cos it seemed to work for a few other people on some different forums. So my next step was to contact microsoft and let them know what my situation was and well they said they werent responsible for it and duh like i didnt know im the one that chose to install it this person acted like i was blaming them when all i asked was if there was a way to resolve my problem like maybe an update or somethin and thats the only thing i got from that dumb fckr witch was retarded.
so i sent another email sayin the same thing and a different person told me to look at the forums and said there most likely is a solution around but without finding one i decided to post this and i am new to this so forgive me if this is the wrong area for this post im also new to computers all i want is my pc to work good again i had to buy this dell labtop jus to find a solution because my internet is thruogh a usb modem.
And i forgot to add not one usb port works all of them in the device manager have the exclimation sighn.
I've been using my Dell Inspiron 17R for around 2 months ago and it's a fantastic laptop, I mainly use it for videogames, music and movies/TV shows and it has ran flawlessly thus far.
Starting yesterday however, problems began to occur. I could boot the laptop up as per usual and access the Internet, play games, watch movies etc. but after around 5 minutes everything would suddenly become unresponsive. Both my mouse and trackpad wouldn't allow me to click at all, I could however move the mouse around the screen completely fine. The keyboard would also not work - I tried opening the task manager via Ctrl+Alt+Del as well as closing windows with Alt+F4 or trying to shutdown via the Windows key and nothing would work. Instead the cursor would change to the "loading" symbol and it would pretty much just do nothing.
The first time this happened I was browsing the Internet and it just got stuck on "Waiting for Cache" or something to that likeliness, I then noticed the rotating circle that shows a page loading had also halted and was then forced to reboot manually as I couldn't even click the Windows button. Another test I tried was watching a downloaded video - it literally just stopped playing around 4 minutes in. The screen just halted on a single frame even though the pause button hadn't been pressed - trying to click anything didn't work (as usual).
I tried rebooting it multiple times (I was sadly forced to use the power button) and it began to repeat every single time. It would work for a few minutes before completely freezing (minus the ability to pointlessly move the mouse around the screen). Occasionally a window would pop up above the task bar saying that the "Microsoft Windows application has become unresponsive". Sometimes the taskbar would then disappear and the laptop would shut itself down but the end result was always the same.
I found that the same problem did not occur when booting in Safe Mode with Networking, however there was some noticeable slowdown. I downloaded and used many anti-viruses/malware to scan my machine and I'm almost positive that there is nothing of the such on the computer (although in all fairness, the scans were running so slowly I could only make it to about 20% on each before giving up). Other solutions I've tried included:
1. Manually ending high memory usage tasks via the manager
2. Using CCleaner to fix my registry in Safe Mode
3. Left the laptop off overnight in a hope it would just fix itself
4. Unplugged everything from the ports of the laptop
5. Rebooted via the Restart, Shutdown and power buttons
I have Compaq Presario C784TU laptop with windows 7 updated on it. Recently while watching a movie, the audio suddenly started giving problems. I updated my audio driver in the device manager and it installed Conexant High Definition Audio Driver 221. After installing that, my audio completely stopped working. Also,that my headphones are working but only the speakers have stopped working. I have checked all the settings and also I don't think there is any problem with the hardware.

No actual change in the windows volume control, or any volume control is done....the sound output just drops. Only way to fix it seems to be to restart the affected programs (e.g. my music player).
There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it, it just happens randomly.
My wireless and my sound volume are spazzing out. The sound constantly varies and my wireless is intermittent. Sometimes it all works fine, but most of the time I am having these issues. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble with controlling the volume in windows 7. If I'm playing music through either Windows media player or itunes and drag the taskbar volume slider down to 0% I can still hear sound. I've only noticed this problem last night so I thought a system restore to yesterday afternoon would fix it but I've still got the problem. There is a possibility that this problem there since the installation of windows and that I only noticed it last night though.
Some random details: I've noticed that if I open the mixer, all of the levels claim to be on the same volume. Itunes, applications and system volume sliders are all at zero but sound is still playing. If I just click on the itunes slider, the sound disappears completely and 0% volume actually means just that. The problem then is that the slider is then independent to the master volume slider and I have to adjust the volume for itunes every time.

Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
SoundMAX integrated audio
My system doesn't even have official Vista drivers from Dell so if the problem was there since before last night then it's probably due to the drivers. If that is the case, is there anything that I could do (other than a system upgrade)?
Just had my PC converted from Vista 64bit to Windows 7 and suddenly have no sound. Checked 'Device Manager' and updated driver and this indicates all is well, but still no sound. I have also checked to make sure volume levels are good and that there is nothing muted:
