Jul 25, 2009as I have a ntb without buttons for controlling sound volume, I have installed a program called Sound volume hotkeys - it allows to control volume with hotkeys: WIN + UP (resp. DOWN). The problem is that Win 7 has "occupied" the hotkeys, is there a way how to change it? I do not need the function by Win 7 (maximize × restore/minimize) at all.

Feb 9, 2013I've got a bit of a problem here....randomly, the sound volume for my programs will drop (e.g. my music player, any games i am running, etc).
No actual change in the windows volume control, or any volume control is done....the sound output just drops. Only way to fix it seems to be to restart the affected programs (e.g. my music player).
There doesn't appear to be any pattern to it, it just happens randomly.
Volume Mixer And Sound Completely Not Working
Jan 22, 2012It just happened out of nowhere. My sound was working fine last night, then this morning I played a video and there was no sound. I clicked the volume icon in the task bar to see if I could hear the 'ping' when you adjust volume but it repeatedly froze and crashed (it's still doing this now after rebooting). Sound in control panel also crashes first thing when I try to open it. I want my sound back.

Jul 19, 2010I'm having trouble with controlling the volume in windows 7. If I'm playing music through either Windows media player or itunes and drag the taskbar volume slider down to 0% I can still hear sound. I've only noticed this problem last night so I thought a system restore to yesterday afternoon would fix it but I've still got the problem. There is a possibility that this problem there since the installation of windows and that I only noticed it last night though.
Some random details: I've noticed that if I open the mixer, all of the levels claim to be on the same volume. Itunes, applications and system volume sliders are all at zero but sound is still playing. If I just click on the itunes slider, the sound disappears completely and 0% volume actually means just that. The problem then is that the slider is then independent to the master volume slider and I have to adjust the volume for itunes every time.
System specs:
Dell Optiplex GX620 (Tower)
P4 3.2GHz
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
SoundMAX integrated audio
My system doesn't even have official Vista drivers from Dell so if the problem was there since before last night then it's probably due to the drivers. If that is the case, is there anything that I could do (other than a system upgrade)?

Well, mine shows some applications,like Firefox and Guild Wars 2 and Mozilla Thunderbird and KMPlayer. But it doesn't show volume for other applications that use sound like Winamp and ePSXe (playstation emulator). I'm playing Final Fantasy VIII on ePSXe and the game doesn't have a volume control itself for, say, music and/or sound effects. And I'd like to be able to turn down the sound on the emulator game so that the game volume doesn't intermingle with my music in the background played by Winamp.Is there a way I can add these applications to the Volume Mixer? Or, alternatively, is there a freeware/opensource program that will allow me to adjust the volume of individual programs?I am new here so hopefully I have done everything right. On it, he had installed a form of creative volume control in addition to windows volume. The way it worked was he had the windows volume set to 100% at all times, and the creative volume control around 3% for regular browsing, 10-25% for gaming and 50% or higher for rocking out with music. I recently acquired windows 7 home premium x64 and upgraded my operating system. My soundblaster card has all the necessary drivers and the audio is all hooked up properly, and the only thing missing is this form of volume control. When I am using earphones or my laptop speakers and then I close the lid on my laptop, it causes a great reduction in the volume of the sound output automatically.While the laptop lid is still open, the volume on all programs remains normal.However, when I close my laptop lid, it seems Windows automatically reduces the volume.Let's say I put the volume on my laptop to 40/100 units in the sound mixer. All programs I am using are set to use the volume the sound output device is using, so everything else is also at 40/100 units, including Media Player Classic.I am usually using Media Player Classic to play some FLAC music. I usually have earphones connected, but this issue recurs without them as well.
When I close my laptop, in about 2 seconds the sound volume will automatically reduce to 5/100 units in the Volume Mixer in the taskbar. This sound reduction also only applies to the program I am currently using to play music (e.g. MPC or iTunes, the two which I've tried so far).After re-opening my laptop, I check the Volume Mixer and it shows only MPC or iTunes sound output is reduced. Nov 29, 2012Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus. [code] I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

Mar 28, 2012so i have a blue yeti, and i'm an online animator/voice actor. whenever i record audio on my blue yeti (or any other mic) i record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as i yell or whatever. this is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. however, afterwards, it means i have really quite recordings. not a problem right? now that it's recorded right, i can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? wrong. i'm not an audio expert so i must be missing something. but why in gods name would the audio distort and peak after it's recorded successfully? it's all there, it's all clean audio. if i turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds crystal clear! all i want to do is do that inside the computer so that when i upload it to Internet people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. but if i increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! it sounds awful! why?! i tried in sony acid and audacity and they both do the same thing! i can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart!

Feb 20, 2009I have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.
I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.
I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.

Mar 1, 2012I just received a new keyboard today: Thermaltake Challenger Ultimate. I went from a Logitech G15.
First thing I did was connect the keyboard and install the software that came along on the CD, it probably also installed the correct drivers. First after this did I uninstall the software and drivers from the old Logitech G15. But before that, and now after, the volume buttons on my new keyboard is still not adjusting the volume when I press them.
A speaker-icon like this shows up when I press the volume buttons, so its not that the keys are not working: (ignore the text behind it, its me writing an assignment)
