Windows 7 Updates Changes Settings To Never Check For Updates?
Oct 9, 2012For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

You may need to restart your computer." Needless to say, the restarts do not help. I also tried installing Windows Essentials for virus protection which could not receive updates. I have since uninstalled an am using Clamwin for virus protection.

Oct 1, 2011For several months I have had problems each day when asked to install "Windows Updates", some days I get 4 or 5 updates or more, for a long time it installed all except one. This has now expanded so I have three updates that will not install for some reason. It creates a restore point then tries and fails each time. I am using Norton Antivirus and have even disabled that, but I still can get the updates to install. I have never had this problem before. I also have a laptop and another PC computer that has done these updates, so why problems with this one? Jul 31, 2010For a couple days now, I haven't been able to update Avast or Windows Update. I tried reinstalling Avast but it did not work. I have tried everything. I scanned my PC with every major malware program but they don't detect anything. What should I do? I'm too scared to reinstall Windows 7. However, I will if I need too. I also want to format my disk in the process. How could I do this? Also, I am scared that I wont be able to find the drivers I need for my GPU and such if I reinstall and format my disk. Where can I find these drivers?

For error code 800B0100 it was recommended that I install the system update readiness tool. I tried to install but I was unable to. I figured updating all the windows updates, but i'm unable to. I keep getting error code 800B0100 when I try to DL them. I get the x64 Windows Readiness Tool download. I downloaded that and even that has failed to install. I'm not sure what the issue is.

It turns on with some beeping noises and then is just stuck on a black screen where I can move the mouse cursor around to my hearts content but cannnot do anything else as it doesn't boot any further. I am not sure if I still have the windows disc as I upgraded from vista many a moon ago but it maybe here somewhere.It doesn't give me the option to run in safe mode, do any sort of system repair or go to the BIOS screen due to the fact it doesn't boot up that far.

I've tried the Microsoft Fix It application and the same problem occurs. I took a look into the services and when I try to start one service required by Windows Update it always fails because its core services are not launched, so I tried to launch those and those won't even launch.

After rebooting, the laptop showed that it was configuring Windows. Once the configuration was completed the system went into Startup Repair. Once completed and checking the Repair Details it shows a message indicating that ci.dll is corrupt. I was able to restore the computer to original state, but once I downloaded the 80 or so win 7 updates, I get the same problem.

Unable To Perform Disk Check?
Jun 25, 2012Though it was likely foolish of me to keep putting it off I can no longer run a disk check. The 10 second timer stops itself at 10 and proceeds to the log in screen. Not sure if it's important but my "l" key is broken and I was told that that key being broken may be counting as the "press any key to skip dick check". If that is the issue is there any way around it? And if that isn't it then why won't my disk check continue?

Dec 13, 2011Anyways, every time I try to schedule a "Check Disk" it NEVER starts on a restart. I already did the "sfc /scannow" command on the cmd prompt. In fact it said it was UNABLE to fix some problems. I have attached a file of my "SFC scan log". Inside it says it was unable to fix "Chkdsk.exe" Go figure. Alright, just some extra information. I also think my computer is confused of itself . I mean, it seems to not know if its a 64 bit or a 86 bit! I was told to install a hotfix for "Chkdsk.exe" here [URL]. But it did NOT work. I attempted to install both 64 bit AND 86 bit hotfixes, and yes they were both windows 7 (Chkdsk.exe) hotfixes.

Jun 19, 2012For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?
