For a couple days now, I haven't been able to update Avast or Windows Update. I tried reinstalling Avast but it did not work. I have tried everything. I scanned my PC with every major malware program but they don't detect anything. What should I do? I'm too scared to reinstall Windows 7. However, I will if I need too. I also want to format my disk in the process. How could I do this? Also, I am scared that I wont be able to find the drivers I need for my GPU and such if I reinstall and format my disk. Where can I find these drivers?
I've downloaded the newest installation package several times and changed even between Home and Pro packages. Error stays the same, and as far as I've found out it's due to a network error. Has anyone else experienced the problem?

My wifes computer has been acting up for about a week now. IE 8 is not loading properly and is crashing. I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. Chrome works for a while and the she gets the AW SNAP message.
I have been unable to get my windows updates since early September 2011.I have tried various fixes including MS fixit to no avail. Error code 80096001.
For several months I have had problems each day when asked to install "Windows Updates", some days I get 4 or 5 updates or more, for a long time it installed all except one. This has now expanded so I have three updates that will not install for some reason. It creates a restore point then tries and fails each time. I am using Norton Antivirus and have even disabled that, but I still can get the updates to install. I have never had this problem before. I also have a laptop and another PC computer that has done these updates, so why problems with this one? It's driving me crazy.I am enclosing a copy of the error message I get together with the list of failed attempts (only recent ones).
I have been trying for the last week to install Windows Updates KB976932 and KB2653956. I have received error codes 80246007 and 800B0100. For error code 800B0100 it was recommended that I install the system update readiness tool. I tried to install but I was unable to. For error code 80246007 it was recommended that I change or restart the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). I am still unable to to install these two updates.
several of the Windows 7 machines on our domain here at work are reporting that windows could not search for new updates. We have just recently had a new server installed SBS2011 and then shorty after is when this issue sprang up. The windows xp machines are able to update fine.
After battling massive BSOD all day yesterday, I did a complete factory reset, and many other things which have stopped the BSOD. Unfortunately my CPU is still completely freezing up at random times.
I figured updating all the windows updates, but i'm unable to. I keep getting error code 800B0100 when I try to DL them. I get the x64 Windows Readiness Tool download. I downloaded that and even that has failed to install. I'm not sure what the issue is.
For the past 18+ days I've been unable to download and install updates on Windows7 x64. I've tried all the trouble shooters and the update readiness tool, I've sought and received advice from windows answers to no avail, 14 days ago it did allow some updates but now its insists that IE9 on IE is not downloaded when I can see it is and all the time I keep getting Error Codes 80073712 and 9C48 , I've attempted and failed on at least 21 times now and every time it looks like it may make it but then it fails.
I'll be ecstatic if this could be solved. After installing windows updates my pc no longer boots. It turns on with some beeping noises and then is just stuck on a black screen where I can move the mouse cursor around to my hearts content but cannnot do anything else as it doesn't boot any further. I am not sure if I still have the windows disc as I upgraded from vista many a moon ago but it maybe here somewhere. It doesn't give me the option to run in safe mode, do any sort of system repair or go to the BIOS screen due to the fact it doesn't boot up that far.
I boot up windows 7 one day and my disk drives virtual and physical are missing. I try to use windows update to fix it and it manages to find the driver update and start installing it but it fails to actually install it leaving me with what is shown in the image. Why won't windows finish installing the drivers?
Things that I've tried but failed: (also good for others to try these first) 1) Reset and re-register Windows update (link) 2) Clean boot 3) Download and manually install the updates one at a time (Fail with no error code) 4) System Update Readiness tool 5) Use .NET setup verification tool (.NET ok) (link) 6) Elevated cmd -> sfc /scan now (verfication ok)
For the past 2-3 months I've been receiving the same error in Windows Update every time I try and update: Error 80246008. I've tried the Microsoft Fix It application and the same problem occurs. I took a look into the services and when I try to start one service required by Windows Update it always fails because its core services are not launched, so I tried to launch those and those won't even launch.
There are two Microsoft updates that has caused a very important program to stop working. I have identified the two that caused the problem, however they cannot be removed per the Microsoft message that once installed they cannot be removed. Please, is there another way I can remove them so I can get my program up and running?
Just finished installing Win 7 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 1545. It appeared the update was going along smoothly until it came time to reboot. After rebooting, the laptop showed that it was configuring Windows. Once the configuration was completed the system went into Startup Repair. Once completed and checking the Repair Details it shows a message indicating that ci.dll is corrupt. I was able to restore the computer to original state, but once I downloaded the 80 or so win 7 updates, I get the same problem.
I keep getting this error, and following Error message when you try to install a Windows update, a hotfix, or a service pack after you perform System Restore in Windows Vista: "0x80071A91" and removing files manually did not resolve the problem[CODE]
I am unable to download windows updates KB2524375 and KB9478321 for my windows 7 home premium. I have downloaded Hot Fix KB947821 but still get error. Log shows MUM 0X00F0900. Its seems that I have a registration problem but my windows was downloaded on my new acer computer. These are the only updates I have been unable to install.
For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2656368) Installation date: 6/15/2012 7:47 PM Installation status: Successful
I am in my device manager and am unable to update my Multimedia Audio Controller device. I have been unable to use my headset for gaming and I was thinking this could be the problem. My computer was also assembled by a friend who is better with computer than I. I do not know very much about the inner working of PC's so
I am Administrator on my new mini dell portable laptop it is WIndows 7 professional and as of last night it is telling me I do not have admin rights to do Windows updates.
Would disabling UAC stop windows updates from functioning?
I have just purchesed norton gold 360 and it says that I need to uninstall avast to make it work. when I try to delete the folder it says "you require perrmission from laptop pc/laptop to make changes to this folder.
I've been testing AVAST 4.2 fairly rigorously on both VISTA X-64 and Windows 7 7100 X-64.
Straight from the MS site I downloaded the .VHD Virtual disks (XP compatability mode)
AVAST reports that the .VHD file contains a "COMPRESSION BOMB". Now this doesn't actually tell me what this is -- but the fact that it reports something with the word BOMB in it means it can't be good.
Now as this VHD file was downloaded from the official Microsoft site I assume it HAS to be OK (or does it - I would imagine MS regularly checks its own websites - there's plenty of people out there who'd jump at a chance of attacking a MS site if they could).
I'm going to download the XP comparability mode again and have another scan.
VISTA again reports the file as CLEAN) so I think there still might be a couple of things AVAST need to fix in Windows 7 when reading compressed or "archive" type files.
After downloading Avast Anti-virus software that I purchased, my Windows 7 Laptop was slower, and then, it would not shut down and froze. Now it stays frozen in the start-up screen, and does nothing. Could the installation of Avast have caused this, and what should I try now, beside the lake behind my house?
i have tried to remove avast av using control panel uninstall, revo uninstaller and tried stopping it at start up using msconfig.i just cannot get rid of it any ideas?
