With all the device drivers for even the most basic of system, how do you all go about checking for updates? Is there a "driver checker" type program or is it a case of checking each driver individually?
For a while now I have been experiencing a strange problem. My laptop keeps changing the Windows Updates without my consent. I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update. The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?
Tryin to check for updates and it says no updates are available when I know there is because I don't even have SP1 on here yet (Just got it out of box) It installed updates, once, but now will not properly search when I ask it to "check for updates" it just lets the bar scroll once "checking for updattes" then says "no important updates are available.. I turned firewall off, still no luck..
It appears to be solved, however Windows Update does not work. I get the message "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." Needless to say, the restarts do not help. I also tried installing Windows Essentials for virus protection which could not receive updates. I have since uninstalled an am using Clamwin for virus protection.
since i got my computer i try to windows update i get this error, windows update cannot currently check for updates cause the service isnt running try to reboot, ive done that and it didnt work and sometimes when i got into the update thing it freezes and not resopds.
I just performed a fresh reinstall on toshiba satellite c665 with windows 7, all seemed smooth, however it will not even check for updates.. I go to windows update and it says "windows update cannot check for updates because service is not running, you may need to restart your computer".. So I made sure all update services / module were started, and even tried the "fix it update program" still same error.. This never happened to me before.. I'm stuck.
When I turn on my computer the"Windows could not check for updates automatically" message has been appearing for about six weeks It also says click here to check for updates now.I click and the message tells me to restart to install most recent updates. It lists my most recent updates as 11/14/12.Yet when I check for my Windows Update History, all my updates are current thru today's date. Why does this message always appear about Windows failing to update automatically, yet when I look at my updates they are all current?
For the past day windows wants to install the same 4 updates over and over, I have windows update set to download and let me choose when to install.
I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again. How do I stop this?

So I ran msinfo32, and I was browsing through it to see if it could give me any interesting information (stuff like drivers I still needed to install, getting the USB ports to actually use 2.0 like they're supposed to but have never done under XP/Ubuntu/7). And came up with the following surprising pic - there's quite a few entries through the list, but this is the part with the most wtfs-per-screen.
Recently when I booted up my desktop, I get the error from Catalyst Control Center"No AMD driver found or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the appropriate driver for your hardware." (Not the actual text, it's what I remember)(Hence I'm stuck with the generic driver without support for widescreen resolutions)I went to Device Manager and selected my "ATI Radeon 4800 Series", then clicked 'Update Driver', but I get the following error:'Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install itData error (cyclic redundancy check)'.I don't think it's the driver file's problem as I downloaded it fresh?I have no idea what's causing the error.. I don't think it's the video card's problem as it still shows up in my Device Manager, and I've tried System Restore, but I get the error that 'Windows is unable to replace C:Windows with the backup copy' or something similar.

I boot up windows 7 one day and my disk drives virtual and physical are missing. I try to use windows update to fix it and it manages to find the driver update and start installing it but it fails to actually install it leaving me with what is shown in the image. Why won't windows finish installing the drivers?

So when I go to update my drivers to radeon website select the card series go win 7 64 and download the drivers,Before I install the drivers I go to control panel add/remove and remove the old driver software as the website instructed, after all the old stuff is removed I restart to be safe and install new driver software,no errors during the installation but as soon as its done monitor goes dark the pc fans start to work loudly,I wait a little with no success I power down the PC and turn it back on,starting PC back up everything works for about a minute until catalyst control center decides to load its self at which point blam black screen and pc shuts off at which point I have no choice to go safe mode and roll back to previous drivers,I tried doing it thru device manager internet option but it just told me im all up to date possibly because i never update my windows and updates are turned off.I know Im not update on drivers my software according to catalyst is 11.5 and missing some important drivers
