System Tries To Access Empty DVD Drive?
Jun 14, 2011My systems keep trying to access the empty drive when opening or closing some programs or plugging in my printer or other devices. It is an HP dv6 laptop with Windows 7.

Allow Access To Save/edit Files In C Drive (System Drive)
Dec 18, 2009I'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).
My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.
The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.
I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.
Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.
UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.
No Access To C Drive Or System Tools
Dec 23, 2012I have a problem with my uncle`s computer.. Recently, he was watching Netflix, and lost his internet connection, he said that his computer`s performance was slower than usual. I came over and checked his computer`s status, ran MalewareBytes, I found two items.. However, don`t think that this is the cause of the problem. It`s seems as if he cannot access parts of his computer, such as: Microsoft Management Counsel, Microsoft System Restore, etc. I cannot access the C: drive, or D: drive. They`re currently blank and do not allow access when clicked on. I would be more than happy to restore, but I can not use this option since there isn`t access to it. I cannot install Anti-Virus software, or uninstall programs, since there is no access to C.

Nov 10, 2011In my Dell Alienware Aurora ALX desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, after trying to install an Oracle App, suddenly my System OS Hard Drive c: became inaccessible."Access Denied".The other drive D: is fully accessible. Even the c: drive is accessed by Virus scanners etc., I cannot open C: through Windows Explorer. Programs installed in C:Program files are also not runnable. Even System Protection cannot be accessed through Computer Properties->System Protection.I have tried Safe Mode wherein System Restore works but that restoration has not got rid of the problem. Netizens tell me that this the mischief of a virus - autorun.inf virus and suggested Autorun Eater and Autorun Remover these two did not even install/run properly. One suggestion was to access c: through cmd.exe - look for autorun.infs there and delete them: unfortunately there are thousands of them - bewildering - which of them can be deleted safely?!

Feb 11, 2012My problem is simple. I had 4 HD's in my Computer 2* 500G in Raid as an operating system and 2*1tb drives for storage. Everything was working fine but the OS needed a formatt and refresh basicaally.o to take advantage of this and free up 1TB of space I bought a 64G SSD, physically installed it and went about setting up this as my OS from scratch. However, in my haste I forgot to remove a couple fo folders of important documents from the old OS drives.The SSD is the Boot drive now and I can see all other HD's in my computer, but the problem is I can not gain access to, lets call it H:, which was the old OS drive. I have been able to initiallise one of the old OS raid drives through disk management, but am unable to gain access to H.
It tells me I need to Formatt the drive first, and then comes up with a speil about access being denied. I gather this has to do with the old OS being installed on it, I am happy to formatt the drive enventually. But I really need to get some docs off it first.Is there anyway to do this, I have been searching for an answer but not getting anywhere?I tried to change the boot order also, as all other system specs remain the same. But I think because I have removed the Raid set up of the drives I am unable t load the old OS
Cannot Delete Empty Folders In Windows 7 - Access Denied
Jun 27, 2011I am trying to delete some useless empty folders, but I am having an administrator issue that I can't seem to get around. I know already that I'm probably having this administrative problem because these folders are located on a separate hard drive than the one with my old and current installation of Windows 7. From what I've read, this leads to administrative issues, preventing me from deleting the folders. Right now, windows cannot detect who the current administrator is, and so far, every time I have tried to edit or change the administrator to my current admin account, I get some errors reporting that my access is denied. I have managed to change the parent folder's admin, but the two subfolders I can't ever seem to change or modify.

Internal Flash Reader - No Drive Letters (not A Hide Empty Drive)
Oct 8, 2012Before I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

Jun 13, 2012Part of my job involves taking images of many different computers using Norton Ghost and saving them to external drives. One of these drives is a Western Digital MyPassport that is soon being re-purposed. When taking one of the images with this drive I accidentally clicked on the System Volume Information folder and, while I caught my error this time, saw that there were 2 other ghost files already saved in that location. I would like to pull these off of this drive and transfer them to one that will still be in use for storing images, but can't gain access to the System Volume Information folder outside of Ghost to do so, and the steps to access the folder on my computer don't seem to work for the drive (show hidden files and folders is selected, hide protected operating system files is unchecked, and system restore is turned off for the drive).

Jan 11, 2013I'm a photographer with 3 old-tower-based PCs that I look after myself, all with Win7 and SATA2 disks. Naturally, I need ever-larger storage space. To that end I moved all the data from a 1Tb disk to a 2Tb disk, then removed the 1Tb disk intending to replace it with a 3Tb disk. However, without the 1Tb disk, this PC would not boot, and the repair disk couldn't locate any Windows OS. But the OS is on another disk entirely (that remained connected throughout all this). I re-connected the 1Tb disk and the PC booted just fine. On inspection I find that this 1Tb disk - that I thought was entirely empty - has on it a 100MB System Reserved Partition that might relate to the MS back-up system that I've never used (as Win7 seems to point to this, although telling me it's not big enough to use for a backup!) By assigning a letter to this 100MB partition, I can see that there's a handful of (normally hidden) files and a directory relating to booting the PC. I therefore conclude that the PC is booting from this partition on the 1Tb disk, even though the OS is on a separate disk. How do I get the PC to boot from the 'OS' disk so that I can exchange the offending 1Tb drive with a 3Tb one? Or is there some other solution? Maybe I just copy this partition to the new disk? (BTW, I've already registered the 3Tb disk on the system.

Apr 25, 2011I recently reformatted my Windows 7 32bit system on my primary HDD (C). When I open My Computer, my secondary HDD (D) appears, but when I try to open it, it shows as empty. However, if I look at the properties of D, it says that only 200gb out of 500gb of free space is available. I booted into a live version of Ubuntu and the secondary HDD appears with all data in it and accessible, so I know there is nothing physically wrong with the drive. I know that I could brute force this problem by making a copy of the drive in Ubuntu, then reformatting it in Win7, but I'm hoping there's an easier solution that I'm just not aware of.

Jan 31, 2012I have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

External Hard Drive Shows Used Space But Empty Folders
Mar 23, 2012I have a 500gb seagate external hard drive, and already used 240gb space. It worked fine until yesterday suddenly i could not access the files at all. I checked disk management, and it showed that my external drive became RAW drive. I tried to do chkdsk that I learned from one of the forum, and then it somehow has fixed the RAW drive back to FAT32. However I still cannot see any of my files. I opened command prompt, and typed in dir /a and it said 0 files 0 bytes, 4 DIR 288,714, 293, 248 bytes free. How can I bring my files back?? I don't want to lose my files.

Mar 21, 2012I recently reorganized my computer and this included a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new disk. I backed up all my data on the old disk so that I could make sure I wasn't losing any important documents or whatever.I'm now sure I've got everything off the disk that I needed and am using the disk as a storage disk for media. However, there are still folders that I can't seem to erase in the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows directories. Most of the files are gone but about 12GB of junk remains that I no longer need. Whenever I try to delete what is left, it says I need permission from TrustedInstaller and it won't let me delete these files.Is there any way to blow these directories away without having to format the disk? I really can't format because the disk is almost full with data that I need to keep and I don't really have any other disks to temporarily back these files up to.
