View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently got my Win 7 installed on a (let's call it) G: disk. Before that i was using XP on a D: disk. Now when it's time to copy my data from the old disk (D: ), the problem appears. I've copied some of them files successfully, but some of them remain impossible to access. I've noticed quickly that i can't copy/move/do anything with all the files that belong to Documents and settings folder on my D:. hen I rebooted, went on XP and moved all the files which i need from D&S to a new folder on simple path D:New folder. Then I've downloaded a single MP3 file and saved it in the same directory, and rebooted again on Win 7. Now I was able to move most of them files (no sure if all of them, im still copying and searching for the useful ones), but not the new MP3 file! (300MB+ mix) This MP3 file is just an example, im pretty sure that while trying to copy my old data i will face this problem many times. This is what the message says: "You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file".
I've tried to change Secure options of this specific file (just as i did with the eg. explorer.exe file while applying a custom theme) but it dido downloaded "Take Control" application but didnt work either.Any solutions to solve this problem once for good? Cause even if I would now the way to deal with this 1 file, there are still many other files coming ahead
I have a system drive on a workstation which is 1) removable, 2) contains 2 partitions - one for the sytem & data files, one reserved by the os.
I would like to use this drive and it's file data in an external drive case (SATA) connected to my notebook.
Will the notebook handle the external drive properly?
Windows 7 64 bit successfully installed on a new 1TB HDD and I am totally happy with it now. I kept my previous 500MB HDD with XP OS intact should I have had any problems with Windows 7. My question is this: I do not intend to use my previous XP HDD now as an alternative boot HDD but would like to access some files from it which I forgot to back up elsewhere. How should I connect it such that I can just access my files without it booting XP or maybe it wont try to boot XP anyway? Don't want to let XP boot and maybe upset things.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 pro version installed on my desktop, 500 GB seagate 7200 rpm HDD, intel i5 4 GB RAM. This is not required, but I am posting the hardware details. My query is that previously I used to be able to access the hidden files on my C drive, now I am not able to access them. I need to access the data files of microsoft outlook ( I have microsoft outlook 2010) installed, so that I could run synch pst for outlook. I have long back put a check mark in the folder options to allow me to see the hidden system files, but yet i am not able to access the. My user account is an administrative account. However these files are accessible by goodsync software which synchronises these files to another drive on the same HDD. I wonder if goodsync have locked these folders. I don't think so because I was able to access them previously. I also created the default administrative account in windows if that works, and logging in under that account also did not help.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi think the motherboard went out on my laptop (have a gateway nv53, turned it on one evening after using it that day and the power light came on, the cpu fan came on for a second, then nothing, no "no hard drive detected" no beeping, nothing.after taking it apart and trying to see if something came loose, i found nothing. i have a thermaltake backxduet internal drive docking station. I can see my drive, i can see everything on it, except what i really want, windows 7 puts everything in a library, i see it under user, my name, but if i click on the folder it tells me access denied. that is where all my photos and documents are, and that is what is important to me. I can get a motherboard for $150, but i dont know if it is the motherboard for sure or not, i am guessing since i get power, the cpu starts to heat up if left on for a while (amd chip) so i know the cpu is getting power, the fan is getting power, the monitor has a plug that i think i power, it is getting voltage, i also tried plugging in an external monitor and i had nothing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy power supply on my old comp died, so it was time to upgrade computers, I went from running windows XP to windows 7 now. I saved my old "previously upgraded" 320g wd internal drive to recover the data to my new machine. I got an external drive enclosure, installed everything but windows is telling me I don't have "access" to the drive. When I go into disk management, it sees the drive but it's not initialized, nor will it let me initialize it when I try.

1. how best to move my data to the second HD so that it can be read by the primary?
2. will there be a problem reading the second HD in a new set up (mobo, cpu etc)?
3. should i format the 500gb and then put it in the new setup then do the clean install?3b. if i should do that - should i partition it first?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and saw that the users private and public data are still saved in the C:Users of the system partition.
So, I'm looking for a specific guide for Windows 7 that separates the system partition from the users private and public data, saved in another partition on the same disk. In addition, private data created during the creation of new accounts (including the Administrator account) must be saved directly in the other partition.
In other words, in the C:Users directory, the All Users, Default and Default User directories must only remain and its must to be fully functional.
My laptop died but the HDD was okay. I've taken the laptop HDD out, bought an USB/caddy for it and attached it to another laptop as an external drive. The trouble is the new machine sees the external drive, but all its seeing is system reserved and the reserved part of the HDD is tiny. So its not the total drive size and defintley not the data I need to rescue. How would I see the whole drive and access the data?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having issues with transferring data between hard drives in my system. I have 3 500 GB drives in my system connected via esata. Just a few minutes ago I tried transferring 24.1 GB from one hard drive to another and it took forever I was getting under 10 MB per second. Once I got everything transferred I created a folder in the drive I moved everything to and then moved the same 24.1 GB plus another folder that was 10 GB and everything transferred into the folder instant, so fast I couldn't every look to see how long it was taking cause it was there the minutes I moved the folders to the new folder. Why did it take so long transferring that same data from one hard drive to another one in my system?? I should be getting a whole lot more than 10 MB per second.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA little background on my system's configuration. My system was/is configured is a two disk RAID0 with a system partition and two other partition for Windows and programs. I'm wanting to migrate the partitions/data to a single disk system. I created a system image using both the Windows backup software and Novabackup. The problem I'm having is restoring either of those images to a single disk. Is it possible to restore an image from a RAID configuration to a single disk? If so, what am I missing? No matter which image I try to restore from, I either get a fail from Windows or can't be done in so many words from Novabackup. I just want the RAID image on a single disk.

View 1 Replies View Relatedwindows is marking a data drive with a system attribute. Think it is happening in backup. I was hoping that someone would have an idea of what I was doing wrong. Or at least how to turnoff system attribute on the data drive so I could delete volume. I have reinstalled windows 7 (twice) and gotten the same results.
1) primary boot partition is 140 GB on C. Fresh install of Windows 7. I reformatted the install directory. No Windows.OLD directory after installation.
2) create a backup --> all user files and system image to DRIVE E (2TB)
3) after image is created --> Drive I (1 TB drive) is marked with a system attribute. Drive I has not been accessed at all and is clean.
4) Drive I is still empty. At no time was any data ever place on it. Also the partition on it was deleted and reformatted immediately before the reinstall of windows 7.
Future system images want to include DRIVE I
There are no files on DRIVE I -- unless Backup put them there. I have used GPARTED to delete the partition on I and reformat it, but same behavior reoccurs on backup.
I have windows 7N running on a normal motherboard (6 sata ports) no raid running. Motherboard is using standard intel ICHXR SATA RAID controller with most current drivers.
when delete restoration data and proceed to system boot ,. this message shows on my computer screen, i couldn't press any button from my keyboard..

View 0 Replies View RelatedI recently (~2-3 months ago) installed windows 7 on a brand new 1TB hard drive. This hard drive is broken into two partitions - C & G. Windows 7 is installed on C; and G is only for data storage etc. Here is the description of partition C from Disk Management:
C: Simple Basic NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) 98 GB
Unfortunately, "System" is missing from that description. Somehow "System" ended up on hard drive L - an old 80GB IDE drive that has migrated from build-to-build. This drive has just started on the *hopefully* slow road to death. I decided to retire this drive when I discovered I couldn't securely erase it because it is the System partition (there is only one partition on this drive).
So, how I can relocate the system drive data to another drive (preferably C) in the safest way possible. I found a solution here: [URL]. But I don't want to copy the entire contents of L to a new drive, all I want is the data needed for booting, and to securely erase everything else on L. Looking around, it seems I may be able to boot from a Windows 7 repair disk and recreate the system files on C, but this seems risky and likely to require a full re-install if something goes wrong.

I have a problem with my uncle`s computer.. Recently, he was watching Netflix, and lost his internet connection, he said that his computer`s performance was slower than usual. I came over and checked his computer`s status, ran MalewareBytes, I found two items.. However, don`t think that this is the cause of the problem. It`s seems as if he cannot access parts of his computer, such as: Microsoft Management Counsel, Microsoft System Restore, etc. I cannot access the C: drive, or D: drive. They`re currently blank and do not allow access when clicked on. I would be more than happy to restore, but I can not use this option since there isn`t access to it. I cannot install Anti-Virus software, or uninstall programs, since there is no access to C.
