Empty The Recycle Bin Of An External Drive?

View 6 RepliesHow do I empty the recycle bin of an external drive?
View 6 RepliesI currently have 4 external hard drives connected to my computer. I have each of them set to sleep after an hour of inactivity. However, if I am using the computer, they stay asleep, until I delete something; anything. Any time I send something to the recycle bin, all four of my external hard drives wake up.
I would like for this not to happen. I already went to the Recycle Bin Properties and set each external hard drive to "Don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" thinking that it would quit checking them for deleted files.
how to prevent these external hard drives from turning on when I delete files off of my computer. And just to be clear, I am NOT deleting files that are on the externals, they are files that are on the Computer.
I was using Ace Utilities to scan an external hard drive and I noticed that 35.5GB was taken up in a folder called $recycle.bin. Can I empty the contents of this folder and all will be ok?
edit to add....theres also a folder called RECYCLER which contains 3.3GB...can this be emptied too?
I have just bought a new computer and am running win 7.The C drive is fine but my external drive Maxtor 500gb connected by USB, is showing 465gb as used space when this is empty. In Disk management th drive is shown as 16gb, but in defrag screen the full 500gb are shown, what is using the 464gb that is empty? My previous computer running XP was showing the external drive correctly!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a 500gb seagate external hard drive, and already used 240gb space. It worked fine until yesterday suddenly i could not access the files at all. I checked disk management, and it showed that my external drive became RAW drive. I tried to do chkdsk that I learned from one of the forum, and then it somehow has fixed the RAW drive back to FAT32. However I still cannot see any of my files. I opened command prompt, and typed in dir /a and it said 0 files 0 bytes, 4 DIR 288,714, 293, 248 bytes free. How can I bring my files back?? I don't want to lose my files.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAs the thread title states my recycle bin in Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit displays empty and shows that it can't be emptied in the context menu, even right after I finish deleting something as simple as a 1KB .txt file. And it doesn't update it's status with a refresh, only when I double click the recycle bin on the desktopIt's never done this before and just started happening (as far as I'm concerned) randomly a few days ago. I've google searched and found nothing except the trick everyone knows about adding ,0 to the end of the registry for custom icons. But unfortunately this does not solve my problem as it's not just the icon that displays empty but the bin itself. have also noticed it's been doing it mostly after I wake my computer up from Sleep/Hibernation but not when I restart my computer after noticing the problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHow to Add Empty Recycle Bin to the Windows 7 Desktop Context Menu ?
View 0 Replies View RelatedIt did this with Vista -- I now have Win7 Ultimate x64 -- as well, if I have the external drive plugged into the system, and start deleting files, somehow the recycle bin associates itself to the external drive. To get it back to the C: drive, I have to right click and open properties and then choose C: and click apply then okay, but not that long after it's back to the external drive again. So, my question is this:how do I stop it from associating itself with the external drive forevermore?

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a stand-alone "Recycle Bin" that I can put on USB drives. Most files deleted from a USB do not go to the regular Windows 7 Recycle Bin , and I need as a safeguard. I have undelete software that I can use on the USB if I need to recover a recently deleted file , but a "Recycle Bin" would be much easier. I have tried a program called ibin but it seemed to have a lot of bugs and did not do what it was supposed to , so gave up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives. C: drive and a D: drive.
Is there any way to point the Recycle Bin away from the C: drive to the D: drive in Windows 7 Professional?
I use the subst command to map my d:downloads to A:
In windows XP recycle bin moved any deleted files from A: to the bin, but in windows 7 it doesn't. I can drag the files from the a: to the destop or another drive, then delete them from there to be stored in RB (just in case i need to restore them) but anything deleted from the A: is just deleted.
any ideas how to make the RB recognise a mapped (virtual) drive?
After "C" disk partition, I installed Win 7 in "C" drive. How can I install Win XP Pro in "D" drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm a photographer with 3 old-tower-based PCs that I look after myself, all with Win7 and SATA2 disks. Naturally, I need ever-larger storage space. To that end I moved all the data from a 1Tb disk to a 2Tb disk, then removed the 1Tb disk intending to replace it with a 3Tb disk. However, without the 1Tb disk, this PC would not boot, and the repair disk couldn't locate any Windows OS. But the OS is on another disk entirely (that remained connected throughout all this). I re-connected the 1Tb disk and the PC booted just fine. On inspection I find that this 1Tb disk - that I thought was entirely empty - has on it a 100MB System Reserved Partition that might relate to the MS back-up system that I've never used (as Win7 seems to point to this, although telling me it's not big enough to use for a backup!) By assigning a letter to this 100MB partition, I can see that there's a handful of (normally hidden) files and a directory relating to booting the PC. I therefore conclude that the PC is booting from this partition on the 1Tb disk, even though the OS is on a separate disk. How do I get the PC to boot from the 'OS' disk so that I can exchange the offending 1Tb drive with a 3Tb one? Or is there some other solution? Maybe I just copy this partition to the new disk? (BTW, I've already registered the 3Tb disk on the system.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAssume I open WinExplorer and click on the CD-ROM/DVD drive letter E: The whole DVD content is shown. Fine. Now I eject the DVD by opening the tray. As a result the whole WinExplorer collapses and auto-closes itself. UI guess because drive is automatically removed then a drive is empty. How can I prevent this auto-closing resp. show the drive letter even if the drive is empty?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted my Windows 7 32bit system on my primary HDD (C). When I open My Computer, my secondary HDD (D) appears, but when I try to open it, it shows as empty. However, if I look at the properties of D, it says that only 200gb out of 500gb of free space is available. I booted into a live version of Ubuntu and the secondary HDD appears with all data in it and accessible, so I know there is nothing physically wrong with the drive. I know that I could brute force this problem by making a copy of the drive in Ubuntu, then reformatting it in Win7, but I'm hoping there's an easier solution that I'm just not aware of.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an eSATA drive that has stopped functioning properly. I was trying unsuccessfully to install some completely unrelated software when I noticed that my eSATA drive was presenting differently. Under My Computer it now said that the drive was empty and there were four drives that appeared that said "Removable Disk (G)", "Removable Disk (H)", "Removable Disk (I)", and "Removable Disk (J)". When I select my eSATA drive, it says 'folder empty'. When I select one of the removable disk drives it says "Please insert a disk into removable disk (?). Whenever I reboot the computer with the eSATA drive disconnected, all five disk drives go away. I don't remember changing any settings or anything like that. One thing is odd that in device manager, the eSATA drive comes up as a SCSI drive. The device manager shows it as "WDC WD10EADS-65M2B1 SCSI Disk Device", but it is actually a "WDC WD500F032".

I have my mothers dell inspiron laptop at the moment When you turn it on it cascades the message "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\00002ed7. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a Hardware Problem." A system check box then appears and does a scan. When you press Fix Errors. Its unable to fix 9 errors and you have to purchase the full version. Virus maybe????? I am unable to delete the system check box from the system tray. The screen is just a black background and all the icons have disappeared. When I press the windows icon and all programs the file icons appear but when I click on them they say Empty.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy do files moved to an external drive not behave the same as those same files in an internal drive? I noticed that if I do anything to a file that is in an external drive, that file can not be saved under the same name (read only). In order to do so one must save it internally and then copy or move it to the external drive. So I did just that--I copied a file from taken from an external drive, saved it in the internal one and then copied it back to the external one. Now if I r-click the propeerties of these 2 same files and then go to the 'Security' tab a difference is immediately apparent: The internal one has -1- System & -2 My-computername (user-PCuser and -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) with all 3 accounts allowing all (full control, read, write, etc..). While the external drive has in Properties; -1- System -2- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators) and -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) with this final 3d one (and different one) with no Allow for "full control, or modify or write. So how does one have all its files in this external drive behave and be equal to all the same files in the internal drive?Since -3- Users (user-PCUserrs) in the external drive is that which is differnt from the internal drive I was wondering if it is OK to delete this Permission or 'attribute' or whatever it is called and create instead one equal to the one in the internal drive -3- Administrators (user-PCAdministrators)? ANd of course doing so in one go and not file after file after file individually?
