View 9 Replies View RelatedAs the thread title states my recycle bin in Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit displays empty and shows that it can't be emptied in the context menu, even right after I finish deleting something as simple as a 1KB .txt file. And it doesn't update it's status with a refresh, only when I double click the recycle bin on the desktopIt's never done this before and just started happening (as far as I'm concerned) randomly a few days ago. I've google searched and found nothing except the trick everyone knows about adding ,0 to the end of the registry for custom icons. But unfortunately this does not solve my problem as it's not just the icon that displays empty but the bin itself. have also noticed it's been doing it mostly after I wake my computer up from Sleep/Hibernation but not when I restart my computer after noticing the problem.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI currently have 4 external hard drives connected to my computer. I have each of them set to sleep after an hour of inactivity. However, if I am using the computer, they stay asleep, until I delete something; anything. Any time I send something to the recycle bin, all four of my external hard drives wake up.
I would like for this not to happen. I already went to the Recycle Bin Properties and set each external hard drive to "Don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" thinking that it would quit checking them for deleted files.
how to prevent these external hard drives from turning on when I delete files off of my computer. And just to be clear, I am NOT deleting files that are on the externals, they are files that are on the Computer.
I enabled in WinExplorer menu Tools->Folder options->View->Hide empty drives in the computer folder. However (even after restart) empty dirves (like my DVD drive (=no media inside)) are shown in WinExplorer as drives. How can I disable otherwise empty drives in WinExplorer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedBefore I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two drives on my laptop: C, 60gb and D, 400gb. C is completely full and D is virtually empty. I understand that the recycle bin resides on C but Windows does not allow me to empty it (the command is 'greyed' out, i.e. disabled). I have studied many such complaints on your site and elsewhere but my experience does not seem to align with that of others and the 'cures' do not work. I have several hundred photos stored, presumably on C, so I don't understand why they are not stored on D where there is plenty of room. This problem came to light when I tried to download Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I have performed a Disk Cleanup, and also a Run System File Checker (SFC) scan which produced the response 'Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations', which unfortunately means nothing to me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA strange problem with specific .wav files. Several audio files brought into Adobe Audition 1.0. Edited and saved in two different folders. Several but not all exhibit the problem but not all. Start WE; select folder with wav files in question. The directory list field on top immediately starts with a green bar slowly expanding towards right. Next to the cursor arrow there is the "busy" rotating circle. Cannot get any properties on the wav file; however, the two docx files in same folder can be copied, properties shown and basically seem ok for use.
Noticed that the data definitions above the listing for the two error folders are:
Name...#....artist.....albums
Whereas for all other folders it is:
name......date modified.....type....size.
All other wav files in other folders appear as they should and can be processed like any other file. So it is only several of the 10 Audition 1.0 edited audio files that have created the problem. I cannot delete these files. While the green bar is expanding to the right and when it completes its extension still have the "wave" running along the bar. When I try to delete an offending file I get another window "Preparing to recycle" window with "Discovering items". "More Details" show: Name: is blank; From: is blank; Time remaining: calculating; Items remaining: calculating; Speed: calculating. I let this run for 11 minutes and it just kept "calculating".
Another "interesting" thing is after the first time I encounter this problem, close WE and then bring up WE again the left panel shows only Favorites and Library (no computer list). When the cursor is in this panel I get the rotating circle. In any other panel, only the cursor. I can "place the Library in another window" and now with two windows I get the normal favorites, library and computer in one of them. If I restart the PC I can again start WE ok and run ok if I do not select a "bad" folder. Same problem exists if I start the PC in "safe mode". How to delete the wav files causing the problem?
I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Whenever I go into the Recycle Bin to permanently delete files, when I right click, it freezes up and gives me the message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" then it proceeds to "Windows Explorer Is Restarting" Now I can delete files just fine when I'm on the desktop and simply right click, and choose Empty Recycle bin off of the Recycle Bin icon.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very strange issue after I did a boot time virus scan in Avast to remove a virus. Avast seems to have removed the virus just fine, however I can't get Windows to show directories or files any more.If I open Windows Explorer and go to C:Users it says the folder is empty. However if I right click and select properties, it calculates the folder as 10.8 GB. I can still log in fine and run software etc. This problem isn't just in the C:Users folder. My library directories show empty and I was immediately afraid I lost all of my pictures because searching for *.jpg on my system yields no results. However, I remembered the exact path to one of the file names and sure enough it opened the picture. For example when I enter the exact address in Windows Explorer:C:UsersMyUserNamePictures2011MyPic.jpg it opens. But if I list C:UsersMyUserNamePictures2011 it says "folder is empty". One more thing to mention is that I tried browsing files through the command prompt. Whenever I try to do a directory listing with the dir command I get the error: Volume in drive C has no label. Volume Serial Number is 2AEE-FDC8. File not found. However, I can still cd into existing directories that I know exist. I just can't list the directories or files. Unfortunately I upgraded to Windows 7 SP1 right after this happened because I thought it might fix the problem. Now I can't do a system restore to the point where my computer wasn't having this problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I just reinstall fresh windows 7. After I install the OS, I just realize that my recycle bin is empty. Before I installed windows 7, some of my deleted files on my other hard disk is there. But now, I could not find it anymore. After that, I tried to select show hidden folder, files, and drives and unsellect hide protected operating system files on folder options. I try to browse to one of my hard disk, which has the deleted files on recycle bin before, then I found it the recycle bin icon there as well (For instance, the path of the drive is: N:$RECYCLE.BIN). I tried to look at the properties, and I found that the missing size of the deleted files was on there. The problem is I cannot access it. When I tried to open the recycle bin, it just empty. I need some help with this. How do I retrieve the files again to the OS recycle bin, not the hard disk recycle bin? Is it possible to access it again? I really need those files back.

I was looking for my scanner which isn't being recognised, although the printer (it's an all-in-one HP photosmart 8180) is recognised and will print. I've run driver updates, registry cleanups, and system restore but with no effect.

I was able to clean/quarantine the malware, but my startup folder is empty. From the Windows logo start, I am able to see the folders in "All Programs". But all the folders are empty. These startup folders are also empty when I navigate to their locations in Window Explorer. My programs are still installed and I can start them from their installed locations. How do I rebuild the startup folder? The "AppData" and the "ProgramData" folders are visible. I'd rather not create shortcuts to all my installed programs one at a time
