View 2 RepliesI'm having a very strange issue after I did a boot time virus scan in Avast to remove a virus. Avast seems to have removed the virus just fine, however I can't get Windows to show directories or files any more.If I open Windows Explorer and go to C:Users it says the folder is empty. However if I right click and select properties, it calculates the folder as 10.8 GB. I can still log in fine and run software etc. This problem isn't just in the C:Users folder. My library directories show empty and I was immediately afraid I lost all of my pictures because searching for *.jpg on my system yields no results. However, I remembered the exact path to one of the file names and sure enough it opened the picture. For example when I enter the exact address in Windows Explorer:C:UsersMyUserNamePictures2011MyPic.jpg it opens. But if I list C:UsersMyUserNamePictures2011 it says "folder is empty". One more thing to mention is that I tried browsing files through the command prompt. Whenever I try to do a directory listing with the dir command I get the error: Volume in drive C has no label. Volume Serial Number is 2AEE-FDC8. File not found. However, I can still cd into existing directories that I know exist. I just can't list the directories or files. Unfortunately I upgraded to Windows 7 SP1 right after this happened because I thought it might fix the problem. Now I can't do a system restore to the point where my computer wasn't having this problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere was a typical long list until recently, and now they're all gone. I was looking for my scanner which isn't being recognised, although the printer (it's an all-in-one HP photosmart 8180) is recognised and will print. I've run driver updates, registry cleanups, and system restore but with no effect.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer was hit a malware. I was able to clean/quarantine the malware, but my startup folder is empty. From the Windows logo start, I am able to see the folders in "All Programs". But all the folders are empty. These startup folders are also empty when I navigate to their locations in Window Explorer. My programs are still installed and I can start them from their installed locations. How do I rebuild the startup folder? The "AppData" and the "ProgramData" folders are visible. I'd rather not create shortcuts to all my installed programs one at a time

My problem is that when I go into my email program all the folders are empty. This has happened twice within the last 2 weeks. They were not empty when I closed the program. They were no where near full. My server is BTinternet. I do not leave messages on the server. I am using windows live mail. I also use Mailwasher, but have done so since I started the account.

Bassicly a lot of icons are gone and this ugly thing is back, i tried Windows Shortcut Remover nothing happend, same thing,I installed XWindows Dock and this happend.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to delete some useless empty folders, but I am having an administrator issue that I can't seem to get around. I know already that I'm probably having this administrative problem because these folders are located on a separate hard drive than the one with my old and current installation of Windows 7. From what I've read, this leads to administrative issues, preventing me from deleting the folders. Right now, windows cannot detect who the current administrator is, and so far, every time I have tried to edit or change the administrator to my current admin account, I get some errors reporting that my access is denied. I have managed to change the parent folder's admin, but the two subfolders I can't ever seem to change or modify.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere appears to be an abundance of "Temporary Internet Files" stored in my system. My scanner (Avast) gets jammed up sorting through this junk and it takes forever to complete a scan. It can take hours just to do a Quick Scan. I realize I can set the scanner to avoid going through these files but what I really want to do is get all of it out of my system. I used to be able to empty all of that stuff out manually when I had Windows XP. How do I dump this stuff (empty the cache?) with Windows 7?

As a result the whole WinExplorer collapses and auto-closes itself. UI guess because drive is automatically removed then a drive is empty. How can I prevent this auto-closing resp. show the drive letter even if the drive is empty?

I allowed the battery on my Acer notebook to run out causing Windows to shut down and lock the current files. As I needed the files urgently I asked a professional to recover them, which he did. Later I connected the mains power and recharged the battery. Now the notebook keyboard will not allow me to enter my password when demanded. The mouse and touchpad work. I have used F8 to try to restore the previous status.

When I try to open the drive and access my files, Pic, Doc, etc. It says this folder is empty. How do I regain access to my files?
I have my mothers dell inspiron laptop at the moment When you turn it on it cascades the message "Failed to save all the components for the file \\System32\\00002ed7. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a Hardware Problem." A system check box then appears and does a scan. When you press Fix Errors. Its unable to fix 9 errors and you have to purchase the full version. Virus maybe????? I am unable to delete the system check box from the system tray. The screen is just a black background and all the icons have disappeared. When I press the windows icon and all programs the file icons appear but when I click on them they say Empty.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe used to map a network location an http site in Windows XP. Worked well, but under Windows 7 when we map the same location we show an empty folder and it should contain all the links from the site. I did notice that when we tried this on a different XP box we were prompted for the user ID and Password to login to the share (makes sense to me... ) but there was no prompt in Windows 7 - instead we just get "This Folder Is Empty" Did I miss something? We can access the website in IE... did not try to access the share using the computer name instead of the website... could try that.... however they use the mapping as above because they still use FrontPage to administer the site and this method provides the mappings etc that FrontPage likes to have.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThe one he has is a 32 bit with Windows 7 and Mcafee Antivirus. There are some free aplications such as a cd/dvd cover software that he installed on his old laptop with Vista that worked ok. On the newer one they seem to install but theres no Desktop icon that he requests and in All Programs the folder is there but shows as empty. In uninstall or change the files are there. I thought it may be User Account control so i suggested he disables it and try to download again but its still the same. He also tried to install trials of other things with the same result. I installed the applications he wants on my Vista with no problems so i immagine the problem is with Windows 7 security somehow.
