I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition. Whenever I go into the Recycle Bin to permanently delete files, when I right click, it freezes up and gives me the message "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" then it proceeds to "Windows Explorer Is Restarting" Now I can delete files just fine when I'm on the desktop and simply right click, and choose Empty Recycle bin off of the Recycle Bin icon.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to resolve an issue involving a bunch of "illegitimate" Windows Live streams (discovered in a Stream Armor scan).In trying to resolve the issue, I've deleted several leftover Windows Live files and registry entries (after making a backup) that weren't removed when I uninstalled Windows Live a few months ago.For whatever reason, the files won't leave the recycle bin, and the streams are still active.I looked inside $Recycle.Bin and found that there's a locked Recycle Bin inside it. Is this normal? Can I delete it? How?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs the thread title states my recycle bin in Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit displays empty and shows that it can't be emptied in the context menu, even right after I finish deleting something as simple as a 1KB .txt file. And it doesn't update it's status with a refresh, only when I double click the recycle bin on the desktopIt's never done this before and just started happening (as far as I'm concerned) randomly a few days ago. I've google searched and found nothing except the trick everyone knows about adding ,0 to the end of the registry for custom icons. But unfortunately this does not solve my problem as it's not just the icon that displays empty but the bin itself. have also noticed it's been doing it mostly after I wake my computer up from Sleep/Hibernation but not when I restart my computer after noticing the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedA strange problem with specific .wav files. Several audio files brought into Adobe Audition 1.0. Edited and saved in two different folders. Several but not all exhibit the problem but not all. Start WE; select folder with wav files in question. The directory list field on top immediately starts with a green bar slowly expanding towards right. Next to the cursor arrow there is the "busy" rotating circle. Cannot get any properties on the wav file; however, the two docx files in same folder can be copied, properties shown and basically seem ok for use.
Noticed that the data definitions above the listing for the two error folders are:
Name...#....artist.....albums
Whereas for all other folders it is:
name......date modified.....type....size.
All other wav files in other folders appear as they should and can be processed like any other file. So it is only several of the 10 Audition 1.0 edited audio files that have created the problem. I cannot delete these files. While the green bar is expanding to the right and when it completes its extension still have the "wave" running along the bar. When I try to delete an offending file I get another window "Preparing to recycle" window with "Discovering items". "More Details" show: Name: is blank; From: is blank; Time remaining: calculating; Items remaining: calculating; Speed: calculating. I let this run for 11 minutes and it just kept "calculating".
Another "interesting" thing is after the first time I encounter this problem, close WE and then bring up WE again the left panel shows only Favorites and Library (no computer list). When the cursor is in this panel I get the rotating circle. In any other panel, only the cursor. I can "place the Library in another window" and now with two windows I get the normal favorites, library and computer in one of them. If I restart the PC I can again start WE ok and run ok if I do not select a "bad" folder. Same problem exists if I start the PC in "safe mode". How to delete the wav files causing the problem?
I am running into an issue where I can open a window/program with my mouse however once the window is open I cannot click inside of it. The window becomes inactive. I also have noticed I cannot right click on my desktop to bring up the properties. I can right click on the window in the task bar to close it but not in the window. Since this is happening I am limited to command prompt. I ran sfc /scannow with no errors. I tried with 3 different mice. I booted the computer into safe mode with command prompt and brought up the device manager to show devices not in use, and when the device manager window opened I could click inside it! since I could use the window I uninstalled all mouse drivers, and reinstalled my microsoft wireless usb mouse driver.. while in this safe mode I changed my mouse properties to system default as I read somewhere that can reset things. Next I booted the computer in safe mode (without command prompt) and still the same thing. I was trying to do a restore point as well however my Kaspersky antivirus 2012 is preventing that as i cannot find a way to kill the program through command prompt.

It was 7 months old well placed in bay with air cooling and anti vibration system. I have warranty of 5 years on him. But my data is crucial to me. I've moved all my important stuff on him because it was the best hdd in my system. I'm fool for not making it in raid 1, so all the data are lost. I don't know what is my next step. I know that I'll have another in no-time because it was bought from distributor, not from the regular shop. The hdd model is WE RE4 1TB.

This only happens when I am going through the control panel.Here is what happens:If I have to uninstall a program, I will go to programs and features and click programs and features and explorer will just freeze then if I keep clicking, I get "This program is unresponsive - Close, Restart, etc" I always choose restart it and it reloads fine.The same things happens if I go to System or pretty much anything in the control panel.

But the problem is that my Windows Explorer stops responding. For example: I go into my pictures and that loads fine but when I go to open a photo it loads and for a minute and finally comes up. Whenever I single left click on an icon, file, or folder a repetitive popup appears asking if I want to send whatever I clicked on to the recycle bin. The item is sent to the recycle bin regardless.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor the past 2 days, whenever I have used Mozilla firefox 12.0, after sometime, the browser hangs up and it tells that the browser has stopped responding. The same time, windows explorer also hangs and freezes soon. I will have to restart and then same thing happens again. I tried Chrome also, but the result was same. the browser freezes, and soon after explorer also freezes. I have also noticed that the disk space in the C drive is also getting reduced. In one day 5gb of space has been added up. I have installed and tested with windirstat. Now even the yahoo messenger freezes (not responding) every time and other applications too. I have scanned with MAlwarebytes and Security essential and could not find any infection. For the past 3 days, I can't watch flash videos in Mozilla. Today, several time the same thing happened to chrome also and it says the player crashed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Windows 7 build 6801 from Vista Ultimate and pleased to says it works fine except for this nagging issue. Whenever i right click anything on my desktop, explorer.exe hangs ("stopped working") and it restarts explorer.exe again.Apparently, it is a common issue and I also had it when I upgraded from XP to VistaI didnt manage to fix it that time but it went away by itself after awhile. Is there any solution for this? Tried a bunch of registry cleaners. Also used a program called ShellExView and disabled all non-M$ context menu items but it still happens.

If I create a folder in desktop, or paste a file or folder to the desktop I only can see it if I hir refresh!!! For example if the trash bin is "full" and I "empty" it....ihe icon will be the "full" one! Only after I hit refresh the new state (empty in this case) will be seen!

I am logged in as Administrator by default. I did not have this issue before.I only have the following installed (in order of installation):Office 2007 / IE / Firefox / MS Security Essentials / Spyware Doctor / Malwarebytes / Adobe Master Collection CS4 / AVS4You Suite / WinRAR / VLC player / Picasa / Orbit Down Loader / Mp3tag / and Rocketdock with Stack docklet
Issue:I can right click on the desktop, desktop icons, task bar, and start menu with no problems (including inside the start menu). As an example - if a go to the start menu and left click on My Computer, the Windows Explorer will open as normal (displaying all my drives). At this level I can right click on my drives and the menu pops up with no problems. But as a further example - if I left click on my C: drive, in order to go into the next level in Windows Explorer, I will see the folder/files inside the C: drive (like normal). But at this point (or further levels), if I right click on any folders or files - the menu will pop up so fast (like a split second flash) and go away. It does not give me the chance to do anything. And after this split second flash, the Windows Explorer goes back to the previous level (as if I hit the Back button).
It does not matter how deep I navigate into the folder structure (anything past the first level - where the Drives are displayed) - as soon as I right click, the same "flash" happens. Including the backing up of a level each time I right click, until I end up back at my Drives again. Yet if I were to copy-n-move any folder/file to the desk top level, then I can right click like normal (even though within the Windows Explorer I could not).Is this a Security/Permission setting? Or is this a corrupted Context Menu issue (inside one of the registry levels)?
On Windows 7 x64Windows explorer crashes whenever I try to make a new folder or right click. I have disabled every non microsoft context menu using SellExView but that did not help. I think there is a way to get a stack trace and analyze it but I have no idea how to do that?

Got the files recovered and transfered to a backup drive, installed a new F/ drive and as I began re-installing program files, discovered I couldn't use Explorer right-click to copy data files to a different directory. I tried the NirSof shexview program to disable all context menu items, no joy, even in safe mode. I made a crashdmp file, but don't know how to open or read it. Per other threads, I've uploaded that to skydrive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 64-bit install keeps "forgetting" to sort folders by name (or by anything for that matter). When I right click and select "Sort by..." in an affected folder there is no bullet indicating that ANY sorting behavior is selected. I can manually reselect "Sort by name" but the trigger is so common that this doesn't stick for long. This drives me nuts having become accustomed to organizing things alphabetically. Anyway the trigger for all this is very puzzling. If I drag a file from one folder to another so that it drops in between two other files (i.e. when that little dividing bar shows up to show you where the file will drop), that folder loses its sorting. If I cut and paste the file with the keyboard this doesn't happen, it's only when I move the file with my mouse. I should mention that this is also when using icons rather than a list.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba A300-18A laptop, bought in Portugal in 2008. It came pre-installed with Vista and I always left it in place because I couldn't find a proper time to backup everything properly. These holidays, I finally had the time to do that and 2 or 3 weeks ago I installed Win7. I didn't do an upgrade and did the custom install over the previous Vista version. Right after installation, during the first uses, my keyboard froze during an internet session. Simply, no key would work, but I had full control of the computer otherwise. Over the next days I found it happened quite frequently, and it didn't even need to be on internet. The most often place to freeze is in text editors (ConText, TexnicCenter), Excel (I'm using Office 2007), an online MMO and even the login screen, before I can actually access my computer. A restart usually solves the problem temporarily, sometimes I need two restarts in a row.Due to this, I did a reinstall of Win7, this time formatting the C: partition where I was making the installation. So this was a real clean install and I still had the same problems. I thought it would be drivers, so I installed some drivers I downloaded from Toshiba support center and THEN I found out about Toshiba's Win7 installation.Still the same problems. There are more curious things about the keyboard: it usually seems to think ctrl is pressed. I have opened the on-screen keyboard and noticed the ctrl-key depressed. Unpressing this key, thought, does not rehabilitate the keyboard. This ctrl-press must not always be on, thought, because sometimes I notice parallel behaviours and other times I don't. For example, I don't get 'save file' dialogs if I press 'S', but I do see the screen zooming in and out in a web browser if I roll my mouse-wheel. Also, I have some defects in Office (namely Excel) that I think may be related, and this since my first install: sometimes I'm going to Open Excel or Word and it says I have the ctrl key pressed and asks if I want to go through. More commonly I don't get this warning, but inside Excel, the usual shortcuts ctrl-c ctrl-v, ctrl-o (new book, portuguese version) offer me the insert/delete rows dialog. Sometimes ctrl-ins has this behaviour too, other times it works fine while ctrl-c does not. It's all very random.Finally, to complete the problems described in the subject. I've also noticed a behavious I NEVER had before installing Win7. Most often while playing the MMO (but not exclusively there) my screen goes white with some activity going up and down (sort of a mis-tuned TV from the analogical days) and I can only bring it to place changing windows to get my normal desktop. The MMO runs in dedicated full-screen mode and I guess it must be changing resolution. Also frequently (about 40% of the times), when I boot my computer it shows up the wrong resolution (1024x768) and, in the login screen, the little button on the bottom-right that allows one to shut down and restart shows up only these two options when ordinarily it shows 4 to 6 options. During normal use, I often get the video-going-white problem when I tilt the laptop display up and down.In 3 years I never had one single of the symptoms with Vista, now I get them everyday. Problem is that I quite enjoyed Win7 (and I don't like Vista) so I'd like to keep this OS if possible.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI used outlook 2007 for years on XP with same account settings and no issues. I got a new pc with windows 7 and now it is constantly stops working. I have 8 IMAP accounts, and it is always a different one that causes it. For instance, 1 day i can look at 7 account, but as soon as i look at an 8th outlook stops working. The only way to fix it is remove the account and reconfigure it all over again. then a day or two later a different account will start doing the same thing. So basically, i am having to re configure my accounts every couple of days.
