If I right-click on some items in the navigation pane, the explorer crahses and gives me "Explorer stopped working" message pop-up.
Here are the contents of the error: Problem Event Name:APPCRASH
Application Name:explorer.exe
Application Version:6.1.7601.17567

I blieve it may be linked to the new video card that I installed. After I changed the stock video graphics card that came with this HP desktop station (Win 7 64-bit), this started happening. I changed the video card to yet another one - the problem still there..

Does Windows 7 finally allow me to disable this "feature"? It's one of the few things which I have an irrational hate for. If I want to rename the file I will use the rightclick context menu. PLEASE. I only use the left mouse button for two things:selecting something and doubleclicking to open something.

I just purchased an Asus K53E-BBR17 laptop a few days ago. After I got through and did a clean install of Windows 7, I went and did all of my customizations, and I tried to modify the right-click menu using registry edits that I found online. They would add to the registry successfully, but would not appear in the right-click menu. I also tried to delete the graphic preferences, which worked, but after rebooting, they reappeared again. I've searched the internet for a few days and have had no success in solving this.Steps I've taken so far:Clean install Windows 7 (twice)Modify permissions in both regedit itself and individual registry itemsSpecs:Asus K53E-BBR17 LaptopCore i5-2450M processorIntel HD3000 Graphics
8 GB G.SKILL RAMSeagate Momentus XT 750 GB HDD/SSD hybrid driveWindows 7 ProfessionalOne thing to note is that my old laptop had the exact same HDD, RAM, and OS and I had no issues on that. I also had no issues using the right-click edits on my desktop.

I need to remove all the most visited pages which you get when you right click on the quick launch icon. I have cleared all the data "from the beginning of the time" several times but no use. All the pages come back after Windows is restarted.I have also reinstalled chrome & waterfox but they all come back after a reboot.I have tried CCLeaner and Glary Utilities as well...But none helped?

when i create a new object in any folder (eg adding a new folder) it does not appear at first. When i go to a different folder and then back to the new folder location, the object then appears. when i change the text of the new object again it does not change, it is still "new folder" or the previous name. then if I go to a different folder and back to the location of the renamed folder it has been renamed. it has to be a problem with windows or my hard drive

i'm running my Windows 7 on a SSD and i've done the optimized settins what i've read over the internet. I also use the Windows Classic theme, where i see the statusbar etc.My problem is when i open My computer and then go to some drive(non-SSD) it opens the drive but doesn't show the files/or shows the files but still they're not sorted correctly, untill it is done with the "Searching for items."(which is written on the statusbar at the bottom. This can take a few seconds to what seems like a minute, probably only though a good 30-40seconds.I wouldn't have a problem with this if it only did this once, but it does this "Searching for items." pretty much all the time when i go to a drives(non-SSD) root. Notice the root of the drive, when i go to some subfolders on the drive it doesn't "Search for items" and shows the files on the folder instantly, but when i then click back to the root of the drive it starts the "Searching for items." all over again. I had couple of thoughts of why this is happening, first i thought it would be because i had disabled the pagefile due to my SSD; now i've added the pagefile on my SSD and the problem is still there. The second thing which i thought of was the Indexing of the drives, i've disabled the Indexing on my SSD but i've left it on for every other drives. I don't know if there's a possibility that the indexing on the other drives may be off even though when i click on the drive and choose properties, i can see that the Allow indexing is chosen.

I visit these forums alot, and ran a search just incase, yet was not able to find this anywhere. It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.

A strange problem with specific .wav files. Several audio files brought into Adobe Audition 1.0. Edited and saved in two different folders. Several but not all exhibit the problem but not all. Start WE; select folder with wav files in question. The directory list field on top immediately starts with a green bar slowly expanding towards right. Next to the cursor arrow there is the "busy" rotating circle. Cannot get any properties on the wav file; however, the two docx files in same folder can be copied, properties shown and basically seem ok for use.
Noticed that the data definitions above the listing for the two error folders are:
Name...#....artist.....albums
Whereas for all other folders it is:
name......date modified.....type....size.
All other wav files in other folders appear as they should and can be processed like any other file. So it is only several of the 10 Audition 1.0 edited audio files that have created the problem. I cannot delete these files. While the green bar is expanding to the right and when it completes its extension still have the "wave" running along the bar. When I try to delete an offending file I get another window "Preparing to recycle" window with "Discovering items". "More Details" show: Name: is blank; From: is blank; Time remaining: calculating; Items remaining: calculating; Speed: calculating. I let this run for 11 minutes and it just kept "calculating".
Another "interesting" thing is after the first time I encounter this problem, close WE and then bring up WE again the left panel shows only Favorites and Library (no computer list). When the cursor is in this panel I get the rotating circle. In any other panel, only the cursor. I can "place the Library in another window" and now with two windows I get the normal favorites, library and computer in one of them. If I restart the PC I can again start WE ok and run ok if I do not select a "bad" folder. Same problem exists if I start the PC in "safe mode". How to delete the wav files causing the problem?

I upgraded my Vista Ultimate installation to Windows Seven Ultimate. I am using RTM version 7600.
I have tried on several occasions to pin some folders to explorer. The pinning works fine and they will stay there until I reboot the machine, at which point when I right click the Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar, the pins have now disappeared? This is rather annoying as I use a number of different folders and on my old Vista installation I had taskbar shortcuts for each folder.

For some reason every so often when I right-click on the Desktop or the Recycle Bin, Windows Explorer will crash.
It will do this three or four times and then be completely fine for the rest of the day. I thought it was down to my Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio drivers, but now I am not so sure.
Anyway, here's the reports:

I just upgraded to Windows 7 build 6801 from Vista Ultimate and pleased to says it works fine except for this nagging issue. Whenever i right click anything on my desktop, explorer.exe hangs ("stopped working") and it restarts explorer.exe again.Apparently, it is a common issue and I also had it when I upgraded from XP to VistaI didnt manage to fix it that time but it went away by itself after awhile. Is there any solution for this? Tried a bunch of registry cleaners. Also used a program called ShellExView and disabled all non-M$ context menu items but it still happens.

I have read several threads in different forums regarding different types of issues with right clicking in Win 7 x64. My issue is when right clicking on folders/files within the Window Explorer. Below is my set up:
Win 7 Ultimate (64) - SP1 Build 7601
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 (2.47Ghz dual core)
Asus AV8 Deluxe
4GB ram
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 (Driver 96.85)
I am logged in as Administrator by default. I did not have this issue before.I only have the following installed (in order of installation):Office 2007 / IE / Firefox / MS Security Essentials / Spyware Doctor / Malwarebytes / Adobe Master Collection CS4 / AVS4You Suite / WinRAR / VLC player / Picasa / Orbit Down Loader / Mp3tag / and Rocketdock with Stack docklet
Issue:I can right click on the desktop, desktop icons, task bar, and start menu with no problems (including inside the start menu). As an example - if a go to the start menu and left click on My Computer, the Windows Explorer will open as normal (displaying all my drives). At this level I can right click on my drives and the menu pops up with no problems. But as a further example - if I left click on my C: drive, in order to go into the next level in Windows Explorer, I will see the folder/files inside the C: drive (like normal). But at this point (or further levels), if I right click on any folders or files - the menu will pop up so fast (like a split second flash) and go away. It does not give me the chance to do anything. And after this split second flash, the Windows Explorer goes back to the previous level (as if I hit the Back button).
It does not matter how deep I navigate into the folder structure (anything past the first level - where the Drives are displayed) - as soon as I right click, the same "flash" happens. Including the backing up of a level each time I right click, until I end up back at my Drives again. Yet if I were to copy-n-move any folder/file to the desk top level, then I can right click like normal (even though within the Windows Explorer I could not).Is this a Security/Permission setting? Or is this a corrupted Context Menu issue (inside one of the registry levels)?

I had an F/drive failure. Got the files recovered and transfered to a backup drive, installed a new F/ drive and as I began re-installing program files, discovered I couldn't use Explorer right-click to copy data files to a different directory. I tried the NirSof shexview program to disable all context menu items, no joy, even in safe mode. I made a crashdmp file, but don't know how to open or read it. Per other threads, I've uploaded that to skydrive.

Like my title read, I can't open any folders in my Windows Explorer with a double click. It gives me the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." This also happens whenever I try to open any drives, such as C: drive. I can however run programs from Windows Explorer, and can right click, then choose open to open folders.
I have already done extensive searching on the subject, tried deleting autorun.ini files, tried some registry fixes, with no luck. I'm obviously running Windows 7, 32-bit, on a HP desktop.

Today I came across the following problem and tried to google for an answer, but without luck. In windows explorer, if I select files with different extensions (for example two files, one txt and one pdf) and right click to bring up the context menu, I noticed that the entry "Open" is missing. Instead if I select files with the same extension, the entry "open" is correctly displayed. What I want to do is to get the "open" command in the context menu even if I select files of different type. Is there a way to do that without having to write my own shell extension handler?

A colleague of mine using the 64bit version of Windows 7 Enterprise has been having this problem for the past day or so. No matter what program he's using, as soon as he clicks print, the program stops responding. This even happens if you try to print a test page - Windows Explorer stops responding. It's not printer specific, since this happens before you have the option to select a printer (and he has several, one local printer and a few network printers). I've tried running the troubleshooting tool, but all that does is restart the print spooler, which doesn't stop the problem.

I have a strange problem that has been occurring since I very first installed Windows 7 x64 fresh. Whenever I click on the primary C drive in Explorer (or any other CD, card reader, or network mapped drive), sometimes 1 new window will open up, sometimes 2 new windows will open up, and sometimes 3 new windows will open up. The new windows usually, but not always, have an address bar. Explorer just seems to randomly open multiple windows at will.
I've been searching and searching online, trying various Tools->Folder Options as well as registry settings, but nothing seems to work. All I've found is a couple other forum posts with the same problem (random amount of multiple windows opening), but no resolutions.
This doesn't happen on any of my other Windows 7 x64 computers. The main difference I can think of is that this is the only machine I have with an SSD, but I can't see how that would effect all drives in Explorer.

I was unable to get my copy of windows. This is a fresh install

A lot of people I have discovered within the last few days have had a problem with right clicking in explorer, causing it to crash. This occurs of Vista, and 7 (7100 atleast) when you install an app, and it installs a context menu shortcut or whatever.
The simple way to get rid of the crashing is by going to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*shellex ContextMenuHandlers" in regedit.exe, backing up the whole ConxtentMenuHandlers folder, and then start deleting all of them one by one (you can start with the ones you've been meaning to get rid of anyway ) and continuously testing the right click. Be careful not to click on an actual folder when opening of explorer after the crash because for me that seemed to solve the problem temporarily. Instead just open up your username folder and right click on a file until it stops. Of course import the Context folder after you find it, test explorer once again by right clicking to make sure you found the problem, and delete the file that caused the problem.
