How do I unstick my computer? It is a Gateway DX4350 Win 7, integrated graphics. Monitor only shows "In Power Save Mode" after pushing a button on the monitor, even after I turn computer off (unplug). There is no POST screen, although I'm sure the computer is turning on and booting, after I installed a PCI video card. Monitor shows nothing from the computer, but does indicate a connection by telling me it's in Power Save mode.

I left my computer running overnight as I usually do. When I went back to it this morning, it was stuck in power saving mode. When I rebooted, everything looked fine and the windows logo loaded but when I reached the login screen it went directly to Power Saving mode and got stuck there.
I am posting this from Safe Mode with Networking.
Replaced my VGA cable with and HDMI cable because screen wouldn't leave power save mode due to lack of communication between tower and screen. HDMI solves that. Now I have no internet connection. No signs of life. Cable guy comes over plugs his laptop into the..box thing where the internet comes from... says the internet is working fine must be your computer and he leaves. So now that my screen is working I can trouble shoot - can't find a network adapter. I have no idea what that means, and it is not listed anywhere on my control panel list of drivers and things. Tried to reinstall whatever that is.. which is hard when your just guessing and clicking things. Bottom line is after using the drivers and devices disc and reinstalling everything that said "network" in the title there is still no signs of life. I don't have wireless so the whole adapter thing isn't making sense either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium here on my home-built computer. The monitor enters power save mode exactly 20 minutes after I last touch the keyboard or mouse. When I am watching movies on my computer, it gets frustrating that I have to move the mouse every so often just so that I get 20 more minutes of uninterrupted viewing time. Unlike other users here that have reported similar issues, the computer returns to normal once I move the mouse (for another 20 minutes, then returns to power save). In addition, sometimes the sound mutes when it goes into power save mode.
I would like to know how I can disable this so that the computer does not enter power save mode. My Windows 7 power settings are already set to High Performance mode, to Never turn off the display and Never put the computer to sleep. The advanced settings have also been set not to enter power save. Yet the system still goes to power save after exactly 20 minutes.
I have looked at monitor settings, video card settings, and BIOS settings to see if there are any power save options that I could select or change, to no avail. I contacted eVGA (my video card manufacturer) and ASUS (my motherboard manufacturer) about the issue, and both replied that the problem was with the Operating System.
Issue: On bootup or back from power save, the screen resolution is at the basic 1024 x 768. When I go into the Screen Resolution screen, the Monitor drop down has Generic PnP Monitor. I press Detect and poof . . . My monitor name appears in the drop down and the monitor resolution has set to 1280 x 1024. After that it is fine.
I've downloaded and installed the latest Vista Nvidia drivers. There are no Windows 7 drivers. There is a monitor driver, but its so old that Win 7 will not recognize it. The monitor is from 2001/2002 timeframe.
Any thoughts what I can do to make the resolution "stick"?
Have just installed new desktop with windows 7 home premium 64bit. I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse both Microsoft. The screensaver does not activate. The setting is for a blank screen. Nor does the power save seem to work. I use the factory default settings. I've seen some posts with the same issue but no solutions except to uninstall the power DVD software and I'm not sure I should or want to lose that feature.

So far no beeps when i start the computer but the fans are working and the LED lights light up. The monitor says "power saving" everytime I start it up. I have windows 7 32 bit installed on my hard drive and was planning to format it into windows 7 64 bit but I can't when my computer won't even start.
View 34 Replies View RelatedMy pc won't logon anymone, the pc lost power while it was in standby and I can't seem to boot it anymore.I'm stuck at just after you put in your password, the spinning circle & welcome screen. I can still move the mouse ( 2nd screen shows mouse movement) and press any of the lock keys so the pc is not frozen, it's as if it is waiting for something.The res is fine on both my screens and I did get audio when it went to the logon screen.The HDD led is not burning.It's simply doing, erm, nothing.It DOES boot into safe mode normally.chkdsk found no problems.Windows startup repair says no problems and successful boot.One more thing, in the logon screen where you enter your password, the other pop up menus like the accessibility menu or the menu to reboot/shutdown/standby/hibernate/etc also DO NOT work if I try that instead of logging in, I click on them and it's like the logon screen freezes but I can still move the mouse. this does not happen in safe mode.No changes have been made since 16 jun, no windows updates, perhaps an app update or 2 ( avast upgraded to v7 iirc, required reboot and this is the first time I cold booted in weeks/I haven't rebooted it since after the last batch of updates around the 16th). I usually do not turn my pc off ever, this is the first cold boot in 2 weeks so It's hard for me to say what changed, but I know it was not a windows update or anything as I only do those manually once per 1 or 2 months.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy parent's Desktop was having a side x side error and i've been trying to help her get it repaired. Her problem is that none of the programs will open except for internet explorer. All other applications give the sxstrace.exe error and won't open. I advised her to hit F8 and get into safe mode so I could try and help her further. She couldn't get that to work so I had her force safe mode through msconfig. That worked and got her into safe mode and she's still getting the sxs error and can't get anything to work for her. I advised her to go back into mconfig and uncheck the safe mode boot and wait til I come home and fix it. Now the problem is when she tries opening the msconfig, she gets an error on that saying it can't open the application with the error code 0xc000142 Now she's stuck in safe mode with no networking and the computer is basically useless. I'm 800 miles from home and won't be there until thanksgiving and i'm trying to help her over the phone so im kind of limited here. I was trying to get remote assist going for her but she couldn't install that either without the sxstrace.exe error.

So this might be the wrong place for this thread but I didnt see a computer specific section so i picked this just incase it is related to my windows. Anyway the problem i am having is that every so often, more often then not actually, when my computer hibernates from inactivity, it cannot be woken up. I click the mouse, press everything on the keyboard and nothing will happen. I even try pressing the power button yet that does nothing. The power button just keeps blinking as normal when in sleep mode. I also tried Holding down the power button, in hope to force shutdown the computer but that did not work either. The only way anything happens is if i unplug the computer and then plug it back in. View 4 Replies View RelatedMy pc appears to be stuck in sleep mode. Earlier today I put my pc in sleep mode before going to the gym. When I came back and clicked the mouse the fans and lights came on but nothing appeared on the monitor. I turned the power off and turn it back on and the lights and fans come on again but nothing appears on the monitor. No boot menu, nothing. Also after turing it on, the fans and lights randomly goes off and on, usually with an interval of 30 seconds. During this nothing appears on the monitor.
I have had the same exact problem happen once before - about 4 months ago. When me and my friend tried fixing it we tried some of the following with no result:
- Using a different monitor.
- Using a different graphics card.
- Using different RAM.
- Removing dust.

Basically my hp 2000 screen is busted so I have been using a external display with that being said I had accidentally toggled te safe mode minimal option in MSCONFIG and my computer rebooted I have no way of seeing what's on the screen right now because it is not loading to my external display what are my options? I called hp and they just told me to get the display of the laptop changed

The problem is I dont have a boot disk and i cant get past this screen. P.S. it happens when i turn it on, it goes to a black screen saying that.
So I am not getting any audio through my speakers anymore this happened after I unplugged my headphones but it doesn't disable that they are unplugged I open my Realtek HD Audio Manager and it shows that the front jack has headphones in when they indeed aren't. I can plug in my USB headset/mic and get sound through there due to it coming up as its own device so its something to do with my speakers in headphone mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday morning I started my laptop and it was frozen at the Acer screen. After I restarted a few times I called acer tech support. Via remote access the tech support agent was able to see that, even though I have McAfee installed, my computer had trojans and a lot of files had been affected. He told me he could fix it but it would cost $200 which I can't afford right now. So I ordered the windows 7 reinstall disc and hung up. I decided to try doing a system resore back to factory settings. I began the restore and had no problems. Then when the computer went to automaticaly restart it continued to remain stuck on the acer load screen but I found that if I left it alone for about 45 minutes it would automatically restart and continue with the restore process, adding files and whatnot. My newest problem is that the restore is stuck. It started loading Office 2010 and has been doing it for 12 hours now.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been trolling Google for about an hour now and haven't found anyone with this exact problem (which worries me a bit).My boyfriend got several viruses on his Asus desktop computer. After multiple attempts and anti-virus programs we decided that it was best to just go ahead and restore his computer to factory defaults.We backed up files that he wanted to keep then followed the instructions from the online manual (Asus CM1630 Manual page 66) to do a System Recover since we didn't have the CD.Everything looked like it was going well, no errors during recovery, but after the reboot when the recover was finished, the computer brought us back to the Recovery Window after an error "RDVD folder not exist!", an error I can't find much information on. You can click "OK" then exit out of the Recovery window, but it gives you a "Disk 0 doesn't exist", restarts, and throws you back to the "RDVD" error.
Only thing I can gather from this is that for some reason it's not writing to the partition properly. Again, we don't have the $50 CD to resintall the OS (Essentio Recovery Software).However, I did find this site that clams to have official ISO images for Windows 7: Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) � My Digital Life I'm tempted to just burn the ISO image to a CD and try to reinstall it that way, but he doesn't have any of the paper work or anything so if those installs require an activation code, we're plumb out of luck.
If I close my laptop, half the time, the computer freezes after I put in my password. It just gets stuck on the welcome screen with the spinning wheel. It doesn't always happen, but I have to do a hard reset everytime it does. I already set the HD to never turn off, so I am just wondering what else i can do to stop this freezing?

It will not boot in any mode, safemode it gets stuck at random drivers it won't even boot from my OS disc to repair. It will load all the files from the disc then it shows the initial Windows start screen then is just black with the mouse pointer.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my computer everything seems to be working fine but after login it says Please Wait then freezes at Welcome screen and the cursor can be moved around the screen and shows the loading icon and the screen also flashes black every few seconds. I've restarted and attempted to access Safe Mode however it also freezes at Welcome screen. I went into the repair system screen and tried a system restore but it says there are no restore points available and I know I haven't deleted my restore points. I've tried disconnecting any of the hardware I've had installed but that hasn't helped either. There also isn't any faulty hardware. When it was last working it said there was a Windows update so I installed the update but when I tried to turn on the computer the next time thats when the problem started and I don't remember what the update was for. I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit about 2 months ago and up until now I've had no problems with it. What can I do?

My Windows 7 ultimate x64 is rebooting itself at the welcome/logon screen, in safe mode only. Normal mode is fine. The reboot happens instantly, after a few seconds at the welcome screen, the screen goes black and the system is rebooted as though I had hit the "reboot" button on the case, with no clean shutdown taking place. I am at a loss to know what could be starting in safe mode, that _doesn't_ start in normal mode, to cause this.
I have recently done a repair install of windows (the problem was there before that), I have tried replacing the safe mode parts of the registry with clean ones downloaded from an AV vendor website (mcafee if I remember correctly), and have tried doing sfc /scannow which resulted in a corrupted boot.sdi being replaced with the archived copy. None of these have fixed the problem.
Obviously, given that I have a usable normal mode, and good backups, this isn't the biggest problem ever, but it would be nice to get it fixed especially for the next time I need to fix a dodgy driver install or similar. What I can check next, particularly in regards to understanding the startup process and what will be loading at the welcome screen that might be causing the reboot.
