Yesterday morning I started my laptop and it was frozen at the Acer screen. After I restarted a few times I called acer tech support. Via remote access the tech support agent was able to see that, even though I have McAfee installed, my computer had trojans and a lot of files had been affected. He told me he could fix it but it would cost $200 which I can't afford right now. So I ordered the windows 7 reinstall disc and hung up. I decided to try doing a system resore back to factory settings. I began the restore and had no problems. Then when the computer went to automaticaly restart it continued to remain stuck on the acer load screen but I found that if I left it alone for about 45 minutes it would automatically restart and continue with the restore process, adding files and whatnot. My newest problem is that the restore is stuck. It started loading Office 2010 and has been doing it for 12 hours now.

I need to restore my laptop back to it's factory settings. I've looked at guides on the net and gone through the control panel to the system recovery < advanced recovery methods however the options that I see in the guides and on my laptop presently differ.
Before it had an option to "return your computer to factory condition" however now it says "Re-install windows)

I have forgotten my windows 7 logon password and have been told that the only way I can solve this problem is to restore my laptop to factory settings. I have been told by TechGuys that this is not possible with Windows 7 and that I have to pay around £80 to have HP do it for me.
I have Windows 7 on Laptop. My mouse stopped responding in the Windows normal mode but functions fine in the Safe mode. I restarted the laptop several times but the problem remains.

I have a windows 7 Advent quantum q200 laptop. Every time I log in I get the BSOD, so just wandering how I can factory restore my laptop, because 1, it's incredibly slow and 2, I don't mind losing personal files.
Additional info: I can log on in safe mode I cannot system restore because I do not have a previous restore point.
I have an Acer Aspireone D255E Netbook, with Windows 7 Starter. I decided I wanted to restore the computer to factory default, and keep my User files. It ran all the way through until it said "Setup is starting services" then it said "Windows can not install this software to this hardware." This confuses me because it was working all the time, I never updated any hardware. So it gave me an option to restart the system and I do so. Then if I do nothing, it just continues looping to the "setup is starting services" screen and then the reboot. I tried pressing F8 to run system restore again, and get it back to factory default, but system recovery is not an option anymore. I tried loading in safe mode, and it wont load. I tried other options on the F8 boot menu and it all basically said to restart. This netbook doesn't have a cd or dvd drive. I do not have any flash drives. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could restore to factory default without purchasing a new dvd, cdrom, or flash drive? Or perhaps an alternate way to load DOS so I could delete whatever step its at on the installation so it could put the "Repair windows" option so I could run the factory restore?
my son forgot his password for his laptop. He has an Acer with Windows 7.how to restore the computer to factory settings? I was told that is what we needed to do in order to log back on.
the opening screen comes on that reads acer and then gose to a diffrent screen thats blue then black screen and reads the following no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
I have a Dell system studio slim desktop, I used the "reinstallation DVD, windows 7 home premium 64-bit" disk to reinstall. After the reinstallation, when it automatically reboots, the screen starts up where I can press F2 or F12 for boot options but after that and windows logo, it stays on a black screen.
For a little background history, the desktop had a power supply die and I bought and added a new PSU. After that it worked until viruses on my computer forced me to reinstall windows.
i try ed resetting my laptop to factory setting and got stuck on the set up and it keeps restarting it when i get into the start up page is there anyway to reset from the boot menu
Performed system restore to factory point when I first recieved the computer. When windows starts, it states that it is rpeparing the system for first time use, however it will get to the welcome screen and prompt for a user name and passwordSystem restore never asked for a user name and password. I tried using the account information from when I setup the computer originally but it does not recognize the username. Also tried to type in administrator for the user name and it says the account has been disabledI have tried to setup user through the command prompt and through the registry using the windows recovery disk. When all this failed I contacted Dell and they said I disabled the admin account during restore (I would like to know how) and I would need the windows installation disk which were not included.
I saw on another thread that I should do a system restore from safe mode on my Acer laptop because when I logged into my computer I couldnt open anything. The system restore was completed (I only restored it to a few days earlier) but when my computer restarted it never allowed me to log on and is stuck on the welcome screen with the little circle thing just turning... I am wondering how long it should take after a system restore for my computer to get to the log in screen. It has been about 8 hours now on the welcome screen. I am started to get a little worried and wondering if I should manually restart my computer by holding down the power button, or will that ruin the system restore or somehow damage my computer?
My notebook (HP Envy 14) had been attacked by malware, and after eventually destroying the virus, I've realized that the system files/programs were severely damaged. For instance, when I attempt to open Internet Explorer or Firefox, a window appears, asking me to browse for a program to open the "unrecognized" Internet Explorer with... and this process applies to most of my programs, such as Microsoft Word (in order to open Word, I must indirectly open a word file document, it's impossible to simply click on Word from the start menu). So, that's why I decided to return my notebook to its original state, using the System Restore factory option. However, when I attempt to run system restore (after saving all of my important files onto an external hard disk), an error message comes up: "Error: Recovery Manager cannot run from the hard drive. Recovery Manager must be run using recovery media to perform a Factory Reset." What exactly is "recovery media" and why is this message appearing?
