I actually selected Alternate Shell minimal safe mode and now I'm stuck in it.How do I get out of this and into regular Safe Mode (with a GUI)?Alternate Shell is all command line so please reply with actual cammands.
I have a problem with my keyboard (set to US keyboard); but for some reason it is in an alternate mode where instead of the 'white' keys on the keyboard it prints alternate 'blue' keys. I don't know how it got into this mode - or how to get out. To me (when I go to adjust my keyboard settings) everything seems normal
i installed LibUSB-Win32- drivers so i could use iRecovery on my iPhone,on completion of installation of LibUSB my keyboard and mouse turned off, well all of my USB was disabled. so i was forced to restart, sadly same thing, login screen no keyboard or mouse, i tried in safemode, same thing. however my keyboard works in CMOS and BIOS so i know its a OS issue. and this only happened when i installled LIBUSB, i looked it up and tried manually removing LibUSB using the Win7 setup disks command prompt. i deleted LibUSB0.sys out of Windows/Systen32/Drivers so that LibUSB wont be called upon during start up, however doing this has now meant my PC will reboot after loading Windows even in safemode, the Starting Windows screen appears. fades and riight before it goes to the login screen it restarts, Safemode too. i have no Restore points and i cannot and i mean Cannot Format this harddisk, its not backed up and i have over 400GB of data i absolutely NEED.Im so stuck its not funny i have no idea what to do to get windows booting again and without this silly LibUSB stuff! i dont have aany PS./2 Ports on my mobo either!, what can i do >? Please ive asked everywhere and no one knows what i can do except reformat.
I have a desktop (A) and a laptop (B) with W7 Home Premium 64-bit and a laptop (C) with W7 Home Premium 32-bit. I have been trying to connect all three so that I can have full control of files. For example: When I am on A I would like to access and alter files on B. When I try to save a file I have worked on, I get the message that I do not have permission or could not save file is blocked.
I have given each PC a unique user name and given each full control on the respective PCs by going to Properties > Advanced Sharing > Permissions. I have gone into Windows Firewall to allow programs to communicate and added the programs I wish to use. I have done Take Ownership.
I'm looking for help configuring Windows 7 (RTM) firewall to allow traffic for an alternate Remote Desktop listening port in the most secure way possible. I know how to just open up the port completely, which works, but I'd rather not do that if I can just open it up for the Remote Desktop program.
I don't seem to be able to just "copy" the built-in Remote Desktop rule and change the port because the port number cannot be edited in some of the built in rules (or copies thereof, I guess). If it matters, I need to be able to access this port with both "old" and "new" versions of Remote Desktop (from an XP machine, as well as another windows 7 machine, for example).
Can anyone offer any assistance or otherwise offer any advice for my situation?
Whenever I boot from an alternate source, (Knoppix linux CD boot, windows XP from dual booting), windows 7 freezes at the login screen. It does this everytime without fail, and only after the alternate boot once.
After this happens, I turn off my computer and restart and it boots fine. I did install a dual boot and mess with the partitions, but I found this happening even after I booted from a linux cd (knoppix, and did not change anything)
So it seems that after booting from an alternate source something changes for the windows 7 boot, and after a hard reset it fixes?
I have a brand new hard disk on which I would like to install Windows 7 (Enterprise Edition). I actually want to install the OS to a drive other than C, let's say drive L. Up through Windows XP the following method worked: In the setup, I would partition the drive and make logical drives of the minimum size from C to K, with a final one, L, big enough for the OS and everything else. I could tell the install program to install Windows in L. A few system files would be in C, all the rest in L. Then after I deleted partitions D-K and fixed a line in C:oot.ini to compensate for that, everything was fine.
In my brief experience trying to install Windows 7 on my new drive, this technique does not work. There is no easy way to create logical drives during the install from DVD/ISO procedure and even when I tried creating three small partitions ahead of a large partition as the target partition, Windows still installed itself in drive C. I know it is possible for Windows 7 to install itself to other drives (I've read other posts where people have complained about this), I just don't know how to force Windows to install itself on a drive with a specific alternate letter.
The "Home Premium" version of Windows that comes with most retail computers includes a one-sided (and intentionally crippled) Remote Desktop subsystem that allows my computer to connect to other computers, but doesn't allow other users on my network to remotely control my computer from their desktops. Is there any free software that can take the place of the missing RDP server component? (I'm not ashamed to admit, I'm a cheap S.O.B. who doesn't want to pay to upgrade Windows on all the machines on my home network, especially when this is the only component from the pricier versions that I want or need.)
Error causes BSOD right after the windows logo. If attempting to boot into safemode, it just shows my mouse cursor and stays black. Nothing comes up.I have tried most of what I know what to try. I took my graphics card out (as someone on another forum suggested) and made sure the pins were all cleaned off. That did nothing. Since someone on another forum thought it was a graphics issue, my card is a GTX480 1536M GDDR5 384B Dual-DVI mHDMI (to be specific LOL)
mypc will only run in safemode; it gen wont get past the welcome screen if i try normally;nut if it does, none of the cons work, i want to do some stuff urgently, is there anywayi can lauch ome programmes whilein safe mode;
Is there an tool/driver that would let me alternate this setting depending on the app being used or the file being used? just for a certain text editor), and a low number for everything else.
I have tried to move the hosts file location by changing the registrykeyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParametersDataBasePathto the desired folder location. However, it appears that this key is somehow ignored by my system (Windows 7 64 bit) and the default location%SystemRoot%system32driversetc is still the one where the hosts file is read.I notice it because any changes made to the hosts file in the default location are detected (I check it with the ping command) and any changes to the new location are simply ignoredI have copied and pasted the hosts file with different values between the default and new folder, so I guess it is not a problem with the hosts file having the wrong format. I also copied and paste the new folder path to the registry key so it is also not a problem of having misspelled the folder path, either. I also restarted the computer after changing the registry key.
My laptop does not seem to boot into safe mode. I've been tapping F8, even though it says F8...system restore on the bottom left corner, it still won't boot. I tried this other method on advance recovery method and chose use system image created earlier - that and return to factory condition gave me an error saying "windows cannot restart the computer into the windows recovery environment." One method I haven't tried is using msconfig - in boot option. I'm worried about using this method..What if when I restart my laptop and it keeps loading to safe mode. I just did an sfc scan.I forgot what it said. It did found some corrupted files, and it repaired it. The reason why I want to use safe mode is to use this recovery disc - I notice that when I turn on my laptop, it takes quite a while to boot up. As a result, I also found that I have a problem with creating an system image. I want to use this repair disc, but I can't go into safe mode, so I can choose repair your computer.
I just performed a complete re-installation of Windows 7 Ultimate x32 onto a friend's Acer Aspire 5920 which was previously running Windows Vista x32.
All was perfect until I installed a Java and a program that needed it. When I ran the Java dependent program, it came up with an error message stating that Java Runtime Environment was either missing or outdated. I then uninstalled Java and reinstalled directly from the Java website. However, on the verification screen after the installation, my Java was not detected and I was told that "Something is wrong. Java is not working."
I followed the troubleshooting instructions on the website and alas it still will not work/be detected.
I then went searching around online for answers and I ended up doing a clean boot in safemode. There I disabled all running services that were not from Microsoft. Then I revisited the Java site and it was able to detect it. However, after rebooting to normal windows Java still can not be detected even with not running the services I turned off in Safemode.
I have loaded window 7 32bit a while back and so far it has been running great. Since then I had a virus and I try to boot into safemode but when I hit f8 it just has a white curser flashing. If I let it boot by itself its ok it starts into windows. So I try to go into safemode by just powering off my laptop in window so it would kick me into safemode. It put me to the option of chosing which safemode but it freezes while i move the arrows. I try to boot it from my repair cd, it boots but when it asks to hit any key to start the boot, it freezes. I then backed up all my files and reloaded window 7. Still the problem is still there. I tried everything that I could think of. I don't know if its in my registry or the os disc. I scan the registry and its good. My hard drive is new 500gb western ditgital. I have a toshiba laptop satelite a215-s5818.
I have two Win7 laptops and a Logitec bluetooth mouse. When I pair it to Laptop 1, it works fine as long as I don't ever connect it to Laptop 2. (On rare occasions it will become unrecognized even if I don't pair it with the other laptop. While that behavior may be related to the problem I am posting about, I have not found a way to reproduce that issue on demand.) If I pair the mouse with Laptop 2 and then return to Laptop 1, Laptop 1 no longer sees the mouse and I have to go through the long exercise of pairing the mouse to Laptop 1 again. Once I have done so, if I retrun to Laptop 2, laptop 2 no longer sees the mouse and I have to re-pair it to Laptop 2. So, basically, whenever i switch laptops, I have to pair my mouse. This gets very frustrating as I have to switch between laptops all the time. It is my understanding that this is not expected behavior.
I just purchased a SYX Mid-Tower ATX Computer from Tiger Direct and it has the capability to run the Windows XP mode and the Virtual Mode. I have an OEM Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS.My problem is that I only a dial-up internet connection, the XP mode file alone is > 500Mb in size. I calculated I would have to tie up the phone line for over a day and I only have one line.Is there a way to get the files on my work computer, which has a T1 line. However it is running Vista not Windows 7.I live 40 miles from my home computer to my work computer. and is a real pain to go all this distance. Microsoft is paranoid as usual. They forget that not everyone has a fast internet connection at home, or can even get one, especially in the country.I can not fathom that one can not get a CD/DVD that can check if your OS is a real one and not a fake ,along with a copy on the needed files. I have validated my computer at home.
i tried boot my windows normally but it restart with an error and error was showed up for less than 1sec. but some how i was able to get picture of that and link is belowUntitled.pngAnd same error come up when i tried to boot in safemode and it restart again and take me to "windows startup repair" option.so i tried to repair with "windows startup repair" but after loading windows file it stuck with one cursor and windows7 loggin wallpaper and nothing comeupwith this wallpaper it stuck IMG_3140.JPGand again same thing happens when i tried to recover from my recovery disknow
I'm curious if there is a way to run a specific program when I choose to reboot into safemode with networking?
Specifically looking to run or make sure the service for Logmein starts. The work I have to do would be best done in safe mode, and of course connecting remotely would be great.
I was instructed to remove my antivirus software and reinstall it by avast. They said to run their tool in safe mode. Try to start computer in safe mode and it gets just so far and reboots. I set MSConfig to boot as safemode/minimal. Do that and restart. Endlessly restarts - safe mode will not load, it just gets so far and then reboot. My computer will not start now at all. Can not get a command prompt, safe mode, and could not do a restore for some unknown reason.
Windows boots fine and loads the log-in screen, but usually seconds after starting to load the desktop, she gets a BSOD and the system restarts. The errors alternate between 0x000000E, 0x000000 50 and 0x000000A from what I've observed. Performance Monitor won't generate a report, giving the error "The system cannot find the path specified." I don't know how to correct for that.
Laptop model is Acer Aspire 5734Z-4725 System Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit CPU:Intel T4500 2.3 Ghz RAM: 3GB DDR3 Video: Intel GMA 4500 OEM Software from Acer; Install's probably ~2 years old.
i got a problem with Vista, a normal start causes a crash (+memdump), it only starts in safemode, how to repair it ? i have already ran the installation-disk several times.
whats a little bit mysterious is the fact that last time i used that Vista-partition it worked normally. i then copied all files to a new partition on another harddisk and i have since then used that partion instead.
i changed CPU 2 days ago, can that be the cause ? the computer is otherwise working OK, im running Windows 7 on a another partition.
I constantly bsod on reboot. Yesterday I took out my graphics card because i was selling it in an old computer. It was a ati 4770. I threw in an old xfx 8500 gt because my motherboard doesnt have an internal gfx. It ran for about an hour or so and then i started getting this BSOD. Not thinking I assummed it had something to do with the old card going bad. Today i went and bought a new one to through in and I am still receiveing the same issue.
my laptop looks like it has a massive problem. i have been on various forums for advice but unable to solve - this is the problem
* it turns on & I CAN get into advanced menus
* it will not repair itself no matter what
* it will not go into any other modes , safe Etc....therefore I cannot restore to factory settings etc....
* ive Tried all tricks such as F8, Alt & F11 etc..... to get into advanced menu settings - all lead to the black screen
* everything i click on enter leads to a black screen - only a white curser appears.
its as if there is no way of accessing the computer disc/ hard drive in anyway from boot up. there is clearly a hardware problem but i cannot access anything internal beyond ordinary & advanced menus i just keep being led to the black screen & no activity. the menus work & that is all.
How does Explores Classic Shell looks like? Does it looks like previous Windows XP File Explorer? Welcome to Classic Shell As there apepars more and more essential functions missing in Windows 7, I just installed onto Windows 7 a Classic shell Explorer 3.1 (not a Start menu or IE9)I checked accordingly Classic shell home page FAQ what to do if:What to do when Classic Explorer doesn't show up?But how do I know that it doesn't show up? How does Explores Classic Shell looks like?I don't notice anything new in File Explorer - still selection is lost when I sort files from column header and there New is only Windows 7 missed status bar - now I can see how big is content of a folder and how much spare room is on the destination drive.
I have set up custom paths for the shell folders in Windows 7. It works like it's supposed to except for one small detail. The system creates the folders "Pictures" and "Videos" in the default path (C:UsersUsername). As I mentioned I already have "My Pictures" and "My Videos" at another drive, so these folders shouldn't be there but when I try to delete them the system re-creates them. If I try to delete them again I get an error message stating I don't have permission to remove the folder, and if I try to open it it says "Access denied".
I used ShellExView utility and found it can get the shell extension icon. Now i have a question, can anyone please tell how to get the extension icon? [code] but no icons in the file "rarext.dll", how to get the right winrar context menu icon?
I have been getting Windows Shell Common DLL crashes when accessing and modifying properties in my Sound Panel. (I recently connected my SPDIF out to my receiver;I've also been having trouble getting my headphones to work again, but that's another problem) It's shown up in my Reliability Monitor and I've had the "Critical Event" "Windows Shell Common Dll" "Stopped Working" and it has reduced my reliability score from 10 to about 2. When I "Check for a solution" it says there aren't any available. I've checked all drivers and they are up to date. Any idea how to fix this? I've done alot of searching, and all i could find was one guy dl'ing a new SFComm64.dll file and replacing it in his system, which he said worked, but Windows 7 saw as a security threat (?). So, I'm not quite sure what to do - do I try and dl a new SFComm64.dll file? And if so, where do I dl from?
