SFC / Verification Of Known DLL Failed
Mar 7, 2011
One morning my Windows 7 x64 system failed to boot. It halts with a BSOD: Verification of a KnownDLL failed
System Repair, System Restore, Last Known Good Config and Safe Mode don't work. I've installed another Windows 7 on a second HDD and would like to fix the first install. Hardware: Q9450, 8 gb RAM, 1 tb HDD. The Windows install is less than two years old.
I run sfc but I can't find the log. It's not in F:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log (or C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log) How do I find out what's wrong?
>sfc /scannow /offbootdir=f: /offwindir=f:windows
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log

I had lost my windows 7 partition after trying to put an XP install disk on a usb drive and the program wiped my partition. I then used testdisk to recover the partition and to my surprise it recovered the entire thing as the xp thing had just deleted the partition. I then tried to boot into it but since I've had said BSOD. I installed a new windows 7 install on a seperate partition since then and have been running from it but would love to get my old install back. I have tried running all fixboot options, etc. FixMBR will tell me it has repaired it but when I try rebuildbcd it tells me it cant locate the install, even though it'll ask me if the windows 7 install is the one i want. I have run a chkdisk which completed with no problems and an SFC on the installation which told me there were corrupt files it couldnt fix. I am attaching the CBS.log.

I bought a laptop about a year ago with Win 7 on it and it works great .... how ever when I went to clean it up yesterday I noticed that the Microsoft Product Key sticker on the back has faded to a point that I can't read it.Is there anywhere in the OS that I can find that number? I only ask in the case that if I ever have to reload the OS back on I will need this key.... or I'll have to buy it?

I've been having problems with BSODs (0x09F - happens before sleep mode, or during and 0x0E6 - which happens while I use the computer; it seems to happen when I'm downloading and/or installing anything) so I ran File Signature Verification, and rtnicprop64.dll came up as the only file not digitally signed, and 2 more files weren't scanned. Is there anything I can do?

I just installed DSL in my house. It's all hooked up and when I try to access it with my laptop, both wired and wireless, I get DNS Lookup Failed. I've done some of the common suggested fixes:Reset the modem and router Manually set the DNS (using Google) So, I'm at a loss. I know the computer itself is fine, as I've used it on other networks. Admittedly, I'm not 100% certain the DSL is properly working, but I will speak with my ISP tonight to make sure that it isn't the issue.

i just tried yesterday to install a Kapersky Lab 2012 in my netbook and while installing it remove my MSE,i change from MSE to Kapersky because i was not satisfied with the results of MSE when someone inserted a 4gb usb stick and i suspected it right away it contains malwares, while scanning i saw a lot of ".exe , .pif" ..and i know those wer not part of her files because she didnt even care what was it and the results where NO THREAT detected ..my virus defintion is always updated and i also use a malwerbytes to recheck the scanning, but same results. >can anyone tell me why this WELL known scanners did not detect it?and now after installing a Kapersky..when trying to activate a 30 day trial first,it says "FAILED" and when i look in my status of my network it works fine. and i tried in a browser i receive now a "DNS look up fail bla bla" i tried Chrome and Firefox and i suspected i was being contaminated with that usb stick..so i used the Kapersky Virus Removal Tool 2010 and Dr.Web..which was suggested in my previous thread.it detected a few virus and hacking tools which is "CloseApp.exe"..but after 3 hours of scanning..still i coundnt connect to any website, but my network status is fine. i can send and receive packetdatas..also run the ping 127.0.0.1 and ipconfig but everything was fine.

A few days ago, I started having trouble with Dell Latitued D800, Windows 7. First, Windows would not boot up. I was able to boot windows using the F12 option. When Windows loaded, the screen display had shrunk and was centered with a black perimeter. I contacted the guy that sold me the computer and he suggested that I check the boot sequence for the boot issue. That worked fine. To resolve the resolution issue, I was advised to select the "last known good configuration" from the F8 options. After I did that, the Windows Error Recovery Screen. A Recent Hardware Or Software Change May Be The Cause. I attempt to start windows normally.

My DVD drive disappeared so I want to do a system restore to get it back, but it fails and Windows tells me that it could not access a file. I have Zone Alarm and Malwarebytes, and I turned them both off, but it still fails. If there is no quick fix for this I would at least like to lock in my system restore snapshot so it doesn't get overwritten by a new one.

I got a new P55 motherboard. I installed windows. The board was giving me problems. I put my old P45 motherboard into the case and booted form the same hard drive. (Windows 7 64 bit) It booted up fine but no internet.
I put in the P45 driver disk to install it's drivers. All installed fine except for the ethernet controller driver. It says "Reg DBGet key Valueex : failed" (no spaces)
What would this mean? Something in the registry? I un-installed the P55 driver that was on the HD. Also I "disabled" the device in device manager.
I have an image I created from the P45 board I could simply replace this installation with this image, but would like to just get this driver installed and everything will work. It's right here on the disk but it gives me this error.
Does anyone know an easy way around this?

The drives also seems to be disappearing occasionally and requires a restart before it appears again. I want to update the firmware before I clone my old HDD to it.

I'd had some problem with my laptop the last few days, what I believed to have happened is my laptop (Dell inspiron n5110) which is windows 7, was doing a configuration, but because of my bad connection, my internet dropped. It was stuck at 15% for 3 hours so I turned it off as it was about to run out of battery. It had some problems loading and starting up but they went after a day. but 1 day later I am booting up and I get a black screen.

I've recently purchased a used A665-3DV6 Toshiba Satellite Laptop. It had the BIOS password problem. So I've jumped the CMOS and cleared the password. I've initiated the "out of box state" and it went through the whole process. When it was finished I shut down the computer. Then the next morning I booted the computer up and it stated "HDD Boot Failed". I tried running Factory reset again but there is only a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner of the screen.
