View 1 RepliesI can't get sound from any of the web pages I've visited. I tried to install a codec package, and it won't allow me. I am the sole user of the computer, I'm running W7 64bit with a X-Fi soundcard. All other sound works fine and it is hooked up via spdif optical link to a seperate surround sound system.
Therefore, My first question, How do I get the sound to work?
2nd question, even if is or isn't the codec issue, why won't windows update the registry with the codec installation package (1402 error). I am the administrator!
I upgraded from Vista Business to Seven Home Premium. Used Office 2007 in Vista and using it in Seven. In Vista, my .pst file was C:OutlookMyOutlookFolder.pst. Added it to Outlook using Data File Management, but none of my calendar entries appeared (my inbox and all my other folders are OK). When I upgraded from XP to Vista, this worked fine.Where are my Calendar entries?

View 2 Replies View Relatedthe sound crashes randomly, and any videos also start lagging, (both Internet videos and windows media player videos,) at the same time. it occurs any time, sometimes half an hour from when i started the computer, sometimes after 6+ hours. the only thing that solves the problem is to reboot the computer. i installed a clean install of windows, but it still crashes. the sound works fine when it's not crashed. i always have conversations in skype, maybe that has something to do with it?

i am having an issue that just appeared. when viewing you tube videos or i tunes, i get a bit of static, if i scroll at all i get major distortion. this is present for all videos i attempt to watch. i have updated itunes, as well as the latest flash version, including checking the "enable hardware acceleration" option off and on to no avail.
i have updated my sound card drivers, uninstalled and reverted to a previous version of flash, and updated my video card drivers step by step, but this did not fix the issue. initially i was getting distortion while viewing Internet and random system lock ups that required a reboot. since trying the above, i am not getting lock ups any longer, but the scrolling distortion is present. it may be my imagination, but the system seems very sluggish as well.
I'm trying to attach a sound file to a photo so I can play it on my digital picture frame. I am also trying to make it so when I click on the photo file it will automatically trigger the sound file to play.

I tried different things in control panel under "sounds" but was unable to fix this? I assigned a sound to "menu-pop up" and "close program" but when, for instance, I open a note pad document, change a letter and close it a window opens asking me if I want to save changes but I still don't here a sound like I do in XP?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi just downloaded a windows 7 theme from deviantart, however the start menu doesn't chance and i asked the author of it and he tells me i need to chance the explorer.exe with the one that came with his theme.
But i can't replace it because windows 7 isn't allowing me to do it because of lack of rights. wich i should have since im the only user on my computer and with fully administrative rights.
I also have taken ownership of the file, but i still cannot replace the original explorer.exe file

the hard drive failed on my laptop so have got a new one and I had 2 system image back ups.When I tried to reinstall the most recent one it did not find it from the external hard drive.So I installed the old system image.In the new one I am able to mount the .vhd file in Disk Management and see it is the exact same size as my c: drive.Is it possible to replace the contents of of my c: drive with the .vhd contents?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the case of sfc /scannow CBS.log showing there are corrupt files and the MUI is also corrupt, where do we get hold of clean MUIs and where do we put them when we've found them? I've tried searching on my Win 7 dvd with no luck. It would obviously be preferable to replace the corrupt MUI rather than just the dll or exe, in case corruption happens again. I was under the impression that sfc /scannow would scan the dvd if it couldn't find a clean MUI and replace from there, but maybe not?

The computer runs most stuff okay, but I am getting some failures on things like the window that used to come up and ask what to do when I plugged in a usb. Researching this is how I found that some registry keys were missing. I have been trying to get to the install / repair the exsisting winows part of the install cd that comes up when installing the program. I did it once before, but haven't been abble to get there again. I am not talking about the first repair options that come up at first, like restore from a restore point or from a system image. It's the one that comes up during the install process where you can choose a drive and format. The repair choice in that section uses the install cd and not a backed up file. The registry cleaner I was using did back up the registry every time it was run, but replaced it with the new back up each time. and the system image was replaced a few days ago, so no help. By the way, I no longer use the registry cleaner
View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install of Windows 7 RC on a Dell 1545 which had been running Vista Basic.
All was well except that the DVD writer vanished from explorer and Device Manager at random intervals.
I re-installed the Vista Basic and the drive worked perfectly. I backed up the driver so I have a cdrom.inf and cdrom.sys from the working Vista system.
I then upgraded the Vista system to Windows 7 and sure enough the DVD drive problems came back.
I cannot find a way of replacing the Windows 7 driver with mt nice working Vista driver.
I can't update it as Windows 7 says the current one is the best, I can't delete the driver because apparently I need TrustedInstaller permissions, I can't give myself permissions as Windows 7 doesn't give me the option under the security tab on the driver folder.
