i am using dell inspiron 1520 model and i have installed sigmatel high definition audio codec. Recently i installed some themes and after that my system's sound is not working. I am not able to play any media file as sound is not coming from it. I have checked the codec and it is installed properly and working (as displayed in its status) but sound is not coming.

Plus there is a slight buzzing sound coming from my computer. This is a brand new computer not an old one. I ran CCleaner and italso defragged my computer as well. It happens that all (no excepcions) the media files (mp2/mp3/aac/wav etc..)
i copied from the old PC don't work on the new one! I't says that can not play that file type / unknown file type. I have Shark007 codecs installed for Windows 7-64 and the latest drives both for motherborad / graphics. I moved to 64 bit because i use heavy software (Inventor), but if i can't solve this issue i think i'll be back on 32 bits…
I don't know realy what's going on. Yesterday I was playing song and misic just stopped. I've tried to replay it but it didn't work. Also I've tried to play movie(avi) but it also failed. Just a minutes ago I downloaded codec and installed it. But guess what, same problem.Just one more thing: when I restart my PC I can play any file I want but just in first five minutes I'll go jump off a bridge. I mean unistall windows and get a linux. This wasn't a first time I have issues with windows 7

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, and was getting everything set up again, when I ran into a bug that I can't believe is still present in Windows 7 after two years of it being a supposedly known issue.This bug pertains to WMP 12 64 bit.I fell victim to this bug back in 2010, but the problem is I don't remember how I fixed it.Here is an old thread wherein the first post, by Chappy, describes EXACTLY what happened to my system. Windows 7 Codec Pack (from Vista Codec Pack developer)Specifically, this is what I'm talking about...."NOTE - There seems to be a behaviour noted in Vista that possibly has carried over to Windows 7 as well. It's not a VCP related behaviour but it CAN affect if some files play or not.Vista (and Windows 7) come with both a 32 & 64bit version of WMP and it was found in Vista that if you associated a certain file type with WMP while the 64bit player was set to the default, that file association could NOT be changed even if WMP was set to use the 32bit player as default afterwards. This causes certain file types to be Unplayable due to 64bit WMP's limitations (well actually it's CODEC limitations). There are no functional differences between 32 or 64bit WMP but because of "lazy" CODEC developers, many CODECS are not 64bit compatible...yet.
Because of this, most of us set the 32bit WMP as default before making any file association changes for WMP. This way the 32bit WMP will play all file types with no issues using VCP. Unfortunately, if you have opened a media file in Windows 7 and checked the "associate this file type to WMP" option while the 64bit player is default (which it is out of the box), then that file type may not play even though you change to 32bit player using the VCP x64 tools.Another thing I think I've found is that .FLV (Flash Video) files will not play in WMP no matter which version is default. They do play in WMC, and I'm going to check with Shark007 later about .flv support, so I'll post any results later."I tried opening a media file in Windows 7, and accidentally associated a file (or all media files) to WMP while 64 bit player was default (since it was a fresh install of Windows).
I can confirm my video card and sound card (Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium) both work correctly. They've worked perfectly since I installed Win 7. I've double checked, and can confim my speakers are plugged in correctly.A few days ago, this problem began when I called Microsoft Support, to get help with getting Windows Media Center to stream to my XBox. As part of that trouble shooting, they had me go into Windows Media Player.This was the first time I opened Windows Media Player since reinstalling Windows.The very first screen I saw said that WMP 12 needed to be set up for the first use....and it prompted me to go with the default setup or to set it up with my own preferences.I chose default setup (it's been two years since this happened last time, and I'd forgotten about the bug).From that point that I selected default setup, iTunes stopped working. If I play a song (any song) in my iTunes catalog, the song just stays stuck at 00:00 and nothing happens.If I try playing a song in WMP, it shows that it's playing, but there's no sound.Meanwhile, if I go to Control Panel and click "Sound" I can see the equalizer showing that sound IS happening....but I hear nothing...whether we're talking system sounds, iTunes songs, Internet video etc.I've checked my file associations for WMP 12, and EVERYTHING is checked and I can change nothing as they're all checked and greyed out.
So I have a .filA clip from an old computer game, and I was wondering if there was a conversion software that would allow it to play in windows media player, or if it's just plain impossible. I'm working on getting a cap card for gameplay clips, and if anybody is curious to which game this file is from, it's Marathon (the first one).

These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced the power supply on my system, and when I fired it back up, no sound is coming from the speakers.I double checked the speakers were working, and they are.I downloaded updated drivers from realtek, even reverted and let windows install it.Checked BIOS to make sure onboard sound was enabled. Tried all the unplugging and replugging tricks. I do get a signal that the CPU is recognising sound in the mixer, but nothing comes out of the speakers.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers from my mobo's disk and went through the realtek website and tried every driver I could find there. The system recognizes the speakers and shows them as putting out sound, but I get nothing. I've even ran through the BIOS to make sure nothing was amiss there.

I purchased a china-made Bluetooth headset that works perfectly on my phone, on my netbook (Dell Inspiron Mini - Windows 7 Starter) and my office laptop (HP Compaq running on Win XP). The problem is that it is not working on my other HP laptop (HP Compaq 6730B), wherein I really intended to use the Bluetooth headset as this is my personal laptop.It looks like there is nothing wrong with the headset itself as it works with other computers.The device pairing works well, the drivers were automatically installed and Windows said it is ready to use. I can see the headset in the audio devices. I can also see it from the mixer window. When I test it, I can see green bar coming up but no sound coming out from the headset. I also tried to do the following:1. Make the headset as the default audio device2. Download and installed WIDCOMM BT drivers3. Tried to upgrade the drivers from the driver details4. Remove and paired several timesI am running out of ideas of things to do.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night after stupidly performing a hard shut down (held the power button for about 5 seconds), I turned my computer on this morning to hear a strange thumping sound coming from my tower. I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Seagate (I think, I can't quite remember) hard drive with 720 GB, and the three options that I see are as follows.
The only one that I can think of that could make a sound that loud is the large fan at the back. If I remember correctly, it's the one responsible for cooling the whole tower (I really hope it isn't this). Hard drive is fried from the hard shut down. I'm not quite sure how to describe the sound other than a "thump thump thump" or a "wub wub wub wub" sound. My computer's specs are as follows.
720 GB SATA hard drive
4 GB RAM
ASUS Motherboard (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now) **It is an all-in-one motherboard, so my video and sound cards are included with it.Intel Processor running at 2.7 GHz (can't remember the model number and don't have access to it right now)
I was getting all sounds from my monitor (no speakers plugged into tower) now when I check the sounds in control panel it says no audio device installed.

In Windows, whenever I plug in a HDMI cable to watch a movie on my LCD TV audio will only come out of laptop speakers and when I open audio properties it says HDMI audio not connected or something to that effect (at the moment, I'm not able to connect it to the TV) and it will not let me click on properties, but when I open the driver properties, it tells me everything is working fine. I cannot figure this out for s#%t.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy computer was recently RMA'd due to a faulty PSU and video card. I just received it back and the speakers that I used before no longer work. I figured it was a driver issue and simply downloaded the RealTek drivers but it didn't fix the problem. The AMD card comes with its own drivers. I had problems in the past with their HD audio codecs and tried uninstalling them but that didn't seem to fix it either. I went into device manager and located that there were drivers installed and they checked out. I checked for hidden or disabled devices in "Playback devices" and didn't find any.
Things I've tried:
- Installing audio drivers.
- Uninstalling and reinstalling audio drivers.
- System restore.
- Checking proper connection of speakers.
- Verification that speakers work.
By just looking at the audio mixer, it would appear that the system is playing sounds because there is activity in the mixer when a song or other sounds are playing. The problem is there is nothing coming from the speakers. Is it possible that my audio ports on the motherboard could be faulty?

One day my sound was working fine, and then after spending a long day of sound editing (with headphones in) sound suddenly stopped working from the internal speakers. Sound works from my headphones when they are plugged in but not my speakers and drivers are working properly. Now, here is the odd thing... whenever I change the volume for the 'Independant Headphones' from the sound panel, the sound works fine from the speakers with no problem for about 2-3 seconds! The default is currently set to 'Speakers and Headphones'. I have tried unplugging and replugging headphones to make sure the jack switch is reset in both slots, still no luck!

I have tried system restore as far back as I can go but problem persists.I have looked in devices manager and there is a yellow exclamation mark which I've always interpreted as driver not completely installed I have been online and saved printer driver to my flash drive still wont install.
