Reformat Windows 7 Ultimate Without Installation Disk
Sep 3, 2011
I had a retail version of the genuine edition of Windows 7 Ultimate edition, but I threw away the disk upon moving. However I do still have the CD key for it.I'm wondering how I can do a reformat of the hard drive without a CD/DVD. If there's an official ISO file out there anywhere, I could just enter my CD key again.I have no way of getting to the desktop right now because of BSOD on boot.
So my computer is royally screwed and after looking for solutions for a few days I've decided to just reformat the whole thing. I have all my important files backed up but the problem is I don't have a windows 7 installation disk or any backup disks or anything ( my computer didn't come with any of that...or if it did its gone soo) is there a way for me to reformat it without that?
So I'm trying to reformat my HD, and I'm having quite the time doing so. I have borrowed and Windows 7 disk from a buddy of mine and was going to reformat my HD and then buy a key online, but here is my problem:
I put the disk into my DVD Drive and restart, I immediately go into BIOS and make sure that my DVD-RW drive is first choice in boot order, it is. Upon restarting, it just does a normal boot process, it doesn't give me the option to boot from disk.
My laptop didn't come with an OS disk. I have 56GB out of 250, and honestly I don't know where it all went. Is there any way to reinstall without a disk? I'm not too big into torrenting things like this, but if its the only way I guess I would have to.
So my desktop computer had a nasty virus or something on it, and it was originally a 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium (as it came with the computer). To get rid of it, I decided to wipe the whole HDD and install a clean Windows 7 Ultimate. But I noticed that the boot time for computer now is MUCH slower now. Before on the Home Premium it would only hang at the "Welcome" screen for only about 5 seconds, then go straight to the desktop and I would be able to use it within minutes. Total boot time: probably under a minute. Now on Ultimate, it hangs on the "Welcome" screen for about 30 seconds, then takes another 10 seconds before I can do anything. Total boot time: 1.5 or 2 minutes.I've tried disabling some of the startup programs and ran a clean boot, but nothign wouthe boot time as fast as it was before. I know that Ultimate has a lot more features, does that explain the extra boot time?
I have a hp dv 9700 laptop that has crash, I have being experiences a few problems recently and have manage to fix it my self when it crash before with system repair disk that I brought of the internet. The following message keep on coming up when booting A Disk Read Error Occurred. I think I might of mess the laptop up buy setting the setting as default throw bios, I am looking for free software that I can download on a disk or usb and then reformat it or try to repair it via a system repair disk, I am aware there are software that you have buy over the net, but I believe in doing the job yourself free.
I purchased a new PC with Windows 7 in June 2012. It came with a Samsung optical disk containing Windows 7. I am eligible for the $14.99 USD upgrade to Windows 8.Will there be an installation disk for Windows 8 available at this price and if not, then how much more will it cost?If not, then how should I ensure that I can easily install Windows 8 after a hard disk crash? Do I have to keep my Samsung optical disk of Windows 7?
I have an hp 9400f, and had windows 7 ultimate x64 or x86 installed. Two days ago, I unplugged my logitech keyboard. By doing so, it triggered some sort of reaction. The monitor visual showed the screen distorted in coloring, so i assumed that i moved the graphics card a little. I restarted my computer, and when i did, it wouldn't go past the bios screen. I'd get the "hp " blue screen, but would not work ( system recovery ) .The symptoms my computer has right now is the blinking underscore, and from that point on, nothing happens. It stays at that point, never moves on. I have restarted my computer countlessly. I also noticed that when its on this screen, and I press / hold on to a key, my motherboard will make a "clicking" noise repeatedly directly related to the amount of times i press the key. It's instantaneous. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it though .many people have encountered this issue. One forum had a comment which said this was a result from faulty ram. I have removed each stick of ram, but i have not seen any sort of change
I got an old pc and once every 6 months i re- instal my windows 7 to keep it up speed. This time i made a big mistake. While instaling i had cleared out all my drives ( c and d) Cause it keeps giving me a message bootmgr is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart. And if i try to instal windows it starts unpacking till 5% and then i get a message not able to instal code: 8007045d.
I formatted my hard disk (it has two partitions) and installed Windows 7 Ultimate on one of the partitions. Then when I tried to start Windows 7 Ultimate it said that I must repair the Windows installation.I tried to repair with Windows repair disk the start up but Windows 7 Ultimate won't boot again and says "bootmgr is missing".I tried again to repair with the command prompt,to rebuild with "BOOTREC/REBUILDBCD but it still won't boot.It boots only if I change the Bios and make my DVD as the first booting device and put my Windows 7 DVD on it.If I put other disks it won't boot. Can anyone tell me a way of how to boot without the Windows 7 DVD on the drive.
I just wanna know how to install Windows 7 Ultimate on my External HDD. First, I tried installing it but it prompts a warning message about BIOS or something I can't remember. My PC's OS now is Windows 7 Home Basic 32-bit, and I have a 2 GB RAM, and I don't have a video card. So, what should I do? I want to install Ultimate on my External HDD if possible.
I got the upgrade ultimate win 7; i am upgrading to 64 bit from xp pro 32; as directed i am going with the clean install; my system is already partitioned; at first i jus loaded the disc and change my start up to boot from disk and it would freeze at expanding files tried 3 times and all froze at different %s; after reading a few blogs i disconnected all usb's, multi card reader, all other disc drives and only kept the one running this disk; took out my 2x1GB RAM and left the 2x2GB to only run one channel;i did leave my usb mouse (Logitech MX revolution) and had to connect my key board for a sec when I had to tell it to start win normally since I interrupted boot, but disconnected again; after all this the upgrade seemed to be going awesome i selected my the partition with XP already to wipe out (150GB) and went all the way to completing installation and it froze! so i restarted after 1 hr of waiting and let it run all the way to booting from HDD and error came up saying installation not complete, restart to complete but it just keep coming up, so i started from scratch and now i froze again at expanding files..
I completely formatted my computer to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit from Windows 7 Home Edition x64, I put in the correct product key and then when I attempted to connect to the internet I couldn't because I don't have the correct drivers.Back when I used to use Windows XP I put a little CD in and then installed the drivers from Device Manager but now with Windows 7, I put the CD in and I can't install the drivers. They show up with a tiny symbol with a yellow exclamation mark on it (it was like this too back when I used XP, but I had no problems then,).
The uninstalled drivers are these:
Base System Device Base System Device Ethernet Controller Network Controller SM Bus Controller
Also, if this helps my laptop is an Acer Laptop.
Windows 7 Home Premium AMD A-Series Quad-Core Processor A6-3400M - 4MB cache, 1.4GHz 15.6" HD 1366 x 768 pixel resolution - 6GB DDR3 SDRAM 500GB hard drive integrated Super-Multi drive 5-in-1 card reader AMD Radeon HD 6520G Graphics 802.11b/g/n WLAN Gigabit LAN
I have a system with a lite version Windows 7 ultimate. From the lite version the remote desktop connection terminal client was remove. There is any way to install it now?
My Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade($220) from Windows Vista Ultimate was 3/4 done judging from the progress bar. Received a command prompt stating that the upgrade failed due to corrupt installation files. On reboot I get a disc read error ctrl alt delete.I receive the same error everytime I ctrl alt delete. Is the disc corrupted by the upgrade?
So I have searched around and none of the solutions worked, but let me get to the basics:
DFI LanPark DK 790 FX Motherboard 3.2 GHz AMD Athlon X2 64 bit processor 4 GB DDR2 RAM Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS Video card with 720 MB Ram
Hard drives:
Western Digital Raptor @ 70 GB (going to be used as the OS drive) Western Digital Caviar @ 80 GB
Maxtor 120 GB IDE drive (the other 2 are both SATA drives)
Sony DVD R/RW Drive using onboard audio
Okay so I am running a fresh, clean install (the only "information" is on the IDE drive, and that's my backup for iTunes and Steam) using the Windows 7 Ultimate DVD. The DVD kept hanging @ "completing installation", so I took it to my laptop, and using the instructions on here, made a bootable flash drive.I just tried completing installation from the bootable flash, and it still hangs at that step. When it hangs, it's in a locked up state.. I can't even press Shift + F10 (nothing happens). Also, the CD correctly makes the "System Allocated" section on the drive. Also, i removed all USB drives, and am running both a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.
My computer's HDD had died and all data was lost. I gave for fix but windows ultimate was installed instead of home premium and I want to downgrade because its not genuine and I don't have windows installation CD. Is there any possible way of downgrading without clean install and CD?
I have this problem with my Toshiba laptop: Several days ago my com crashed, when I started my computer on the very beginning on start up screen when it says windows is starting I get a 1 second blue screen with some saying and my laptop restarts by it self. So, ok I have Windows 7 Ultimate installation dvd and i tried to install it,everything goes well untill on the second line of the very beginning of windows installation 98% I get this message Error Code: 0x80070570.
I've read some forums people were saying that this could be a RAM problem,so,ok my toshiba have 2 RAMS x 2 Gb..so i taken out 1 tried to install-same error, put in another slot-same error, replaced and putted my other Ram Memory in the slots same again. So,is there any solution how to fix this?i can see in bios that bios is reading my HDD,not sure if its working, does that mean that if BIOS is recognizing my Laptops HDD that works 100%?
I am getting a error during reinstallation of win 7 which is "setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information." I have win7 DVD for install. I have Dell xps studio 435MT/9100 desktop. I have 2 hard drives(640gb) each.
I have been encountering this same error code in one of my machines. I get the Error Code: 0x8007050 during installation of Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. It occurs during the expansion of files phase, during instalation, with the message "Windows cannot install the required files. Make sure the required files are available..."

In previous installations of Win 7, I've observed that about 29MB are copied to the System Reserved partition. In this scenario, only 11MB are copied. I've performed the following trouble shooting in order:
- Changed out the DVD drive. Tried installation again without success. - Performed factory system restore on the hard drive. Tried installation again without success. - Replaced the hard drive with a new one. Tried installation again without success. - Removed all PCI cards, and tried again with just the PCI-E video card. Tried installation again without success. - Replaced the PCI-E video card with a PCI card. Tried installation again without success. - Cloned the "System Reserved" partition from another PC with a functioning install of the same OS. Tried installation again without success.
It should be noted that this specific machine was previously running Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I was simply attempting to upgrade the hard drive. I've also tried to install Win 7 Home and Win 7 Pro, all with the exact same error code, which occurs during the same phase of installation. I also tried to perform an Upgrade install. The machine accepted a complete install of Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit (twice), but had the same error codes appear during the Upgrade install to Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I reformatted and reinstalled same Vista 64 bit OS. I tried to install Win 7 Pro 64 Bit, and again encountered the same error codes. Incidentally, I have used 3 different Retail Win 7 install media. The machine passes all MemTest and CPU diagnostics.
i've been checking everywhere for some info and my problem doesn't seem like anyone elses. i just recently repartitioned my hdd usuing gnome partitioner and reformated to unformated to install windows 7. I've set my boot menu to boot off the disk drive, but when i put the windows 7 disk in it says to insert a bootable disk.
i have a question: Can you use a Vista Ultimate disk to boot into a Windows 7 recovery partition. What i am attempting is to fix MBR in windows 7 but i don't have a Windows 7 disk and no one i know has one. My 7 wont boot at all but it should with a recovery disk. So can i use the Vista disk to boot to 7's recovery options ?
The 64 bit disk magically dissapeared and all I have left is the 32 bit disk.If I took someones Windows 7 Ultimate disk 64 bit and installed it using my Product key would it install?
My computer shows Disk Volume Error every time I run system maintenance. I tried Chkdsk, disk cleanup and disk fragmentation, but it did not work. Also, my Local disk C is reporting only 8 GB of free memory. But in realty it has 17 GB free memory. Even I could not extend my disk volume through Disk Management.
I tried to reformat my dads hard drive to reinstall windows 7. It was in 2 partitions, so I ran the windows 7 disc and it ran through the motions, I formatted the c to re-install windows and it wouldn't let me. I went into dos under diskpart to try and format it that way, still no luck. I connected it to my computer then under disk management deleted the 2 partitions so there was only 1 now which had the size i.e, 600GB Unallocated. I connected it back into my dads computer and ran the set-up again. Now the computer wont even detect the drive. I need to re-format the drive to like factory default, is this possible, also do I have to do it in dos.
I accidentally recently over wrote my windows C: hard drive by trying to dual install linux on my laptop. I downloaded and burned a windows 7 64 bit repair disk but I have no point to repair it from! So I think I need a clean installation, is there anyway I can also burn an installation disk.
I was having problems with my laptop being very slow and was trying to do a full system restore. I didnt have the battery in when i tried to do the restore and unfortunately half way through the charger came out and switched the laptop off. i turned it back on and it says i had to insert my windows disc which i dont have. it wont let me do anything else now. ive tried downloading windows to disc but when it gets back to the restore page it says i need to have the windows installation disc and wont let me restore from an earlier time as these have all been erased. its a dell inspiron n5030, with windows 7.
Yesterday , randomly , when I turned on the computer I saw nothing but a black screen. It wasn't the black screen of death , looked like a windows black screen but it just wasn't displaying anything. Its almost like windows is operating normally in the background , its just not showing me. When I put the disk in it comes up occasionally and works fine , but when I shut down and turn it back on its back to the same ole thing.
I have windows 7 home premium , 32-bit. I read somewhere that I may need to check the boot order , but I have no idea how to do any of this.
I own a Dell xps M1530 with a: 2.0 ghz dual core processor, 3gb of RAM, and (currently) a 360gb 7200rpm hard drive. I have purchased Windows 7 professorial 32bit to upgrade from Vista. Not shortly afterwards my hard drive started to go so I bought a new one(better on of coarse) I want to upgrade the RAM in my laptop to 8gb and I need a 64bit os to do so. I now am using Ubuntu 64bit on my laptop until I install windows. I have legally got the installers for the 64bit version of Windows 7 professional. I am planning on using the same key for the 64bit version which after research I believe will work. Right now I am having problems installing 7. I would really like to not have to waste a DVD to install it. I used some Microsoft utility to extract the ISO to a thumb drive which, I believe is bootable in the purpose of installing 7. Every time I try loading the os from the Thumb drive I get this error message:
Error: Unknown file system Grub Rescue
Also, the Setup.exe file for installing windows doesn't seem to run under a linux operating system even with wine.
My friend's Gateway laptop has problems and I want to install Windows again. But when I try to boot to the installation disk, after I select the DVD in the boot selection menu, I just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor. After a few minutes, one time I saw a message that said something like "bootmgr cannot be found" or is missing or something like that.
But the computer can successfully boot to a Puppy Linux boot disk.
