When you delete files from a network share, they don't go to the recycle bin, they go for good. So I'm looking for a freeware version of Diskeeper's Undelete - something that can be used to recover deletions from networked drives.
I have 7 different email accounts on my WLM. Currently, whenever I send or delete a message, it goes into the corresponding folder under the designated email account. This requires that when I want to search for a deleted or sent item, I have to look under every account to find it. I currently have Quick View and storage folders moved to the top, and now move any sent and deleted items to these manually, so I have them all in one place. Is there any way, that when I delete or send a message, that it will automatically be sent to the storage folders, rather than the actual email account folders?
My friend's laptop won't boot. You turn it on and the Advent symbol comes up and gives you an option to go into the BIOS or onto system recovery. It allows you to go no further. If you go to system recovery you can't even do anything, the typing cursor style thing is just flashing. He doesn't have the CDs to recover Windows 7 and restore it.Is there any way to restore? I also have an Advent laptop, would it work if I made a recovery CD from control panel for Windows 7 and then use it to boot and restore his Windows?
I was repartitioning a 3 NTFS partitioned 1,5tb drive down to one partition via win 7 Disk Management tool. I successfully shrank one of the partitions. After shrinking the second partition, win 7 had a hiccup and reported the remaining single partition is now in a 'RAW' format. I still have data on the drive that i would like to recover prior to reformatting it.Apparently, on reading up about "RAW' files, the data is still there. What i would like to do is to somehow view the data and extract portions of it at a time to other smaller hds. From what i has read i can only extract everything to another 1.5tb drive, which i just don,t have available. If i can find a solution, i will eventually reformat and reuse my 1.5tb drive. How can i extract portions of data from a "raw" drive to a second smaller drive?
My new laptop, after about 8 months of service, yesterday refused to be turned on again. No reaction to pressing the on button. The power supply seems to work. Before sending it for repair, I opened it and got the 2 HDs out in order to recodev some data using a SATA/USB adapter. Unfortunately, BOTH disks, when connected to another PC using the adapter, say that they need formatting. I tried to open a DOS window and typed : chkdsk e: /r It replied that the file system was RAW and chkdsk didn't work for it. When connected to a Linux PC, I can see the partitions but I could not mount them.
Not one of the smartest things I did but my mate gave me his old computer excluding the HDDs
So I installed my HDD into it and thought while I was at it might as well upgrade to windows 7 (From XP) since I had to reinstall the OS. I installed window 7 using the upgrade option and the HDD were cleaned. I left it for a while only to come back now an unbootabe computer..... I reinstalled having to go through the custom install. I can now log into the computer.
Is the data on my HDDs gone forever? Also the OS isnt recognising one of my HDD's?? (Maybe save it for another post)
If this isnt the right section please let me know where to repost
I recently had some spyware hit my computer and then removed. Since removing the spyware, one of the things i have noticed that is not working properly since is that when i click on the "Start" Menu, then try to highlight and open one of the programs in the "All Programs" folder, i get a message sub the program saying "empty" and then the programs will not open. i have tried to update windows and also run a command prompt computer scan.
My husband's laptop had an issue. When that issue occurred our father in law created a stack of back-up discs. My husband had 100s of music CDs loaded on his laptop. so these recovery discs include all that music. He had his computer system restored by Geek squad with windows 7. But we can't figure out how to restore this stack of discs with all of his music. We've searched on windows help with no luck. He puts the disc into the e: drive and the files are visible. We don't simply drag and drop right?
I work at a pawn shop and someone did a reinstall on a pc that had a 7 ultimate upgrade from 7 home prem. Is there any way to recover the key for the 7 ultimate? Keep in mind this pc was out of pawn and can't ask the original owner.
Tonight I was reformatting my external hard drive when I accidentally chose the wrong drive and reformatted my internal hard drive. My screen went black and now I have a computer with no operating to boot up. What are my chances of recovering? How can I recover my hard drive?
P. S. I tried doing a system restore and my disks hang on 80% completion twice now.
I made a system image backup from my ssd, then I bought another ssd to put the system image on,I tried when the 2nd ssd was completely empty; it saysthere is no disk to recover to ( or something like that )then I installed clean version of windows on the 2nd ssdafter that I tried restoring via the system repair disc but it kept telling me the same message
Right, I was basically writing a series of files onto my dvd-r using the windows 7 cd burner (the default one). The problem is, I cut-pasted them onto the dvd. Now, this was the fourth DVD being burnt and I had done the other three quite successfully. However, the third DVD, despite deing burnt, was still showing the files as *not* burnt. The problem was that the completion dialog hadn't shown upThat didn't seem to be a problem. I therefore deleted those files (which were written successfully) and cut-pasted the next batch for the next DVD. So far so good. However, the burn completion dialog now showed up. In my haste, I clicked finished. Because of this, my newly copied files were deleted (as Wi
I have recently installed windows 7 RC on my pc but after installation my D drive has been missing. It has all my final year college projects and other important information which i totally hate to loose.
This is my disk management screenshot where it has not assigned any letter to my missing 20 gb drive and it is taken as system type.
So i have my computer running with a 120gb ssd as the boot drive and 2x 1tb hdds in raid 0 for the data. And today when i went to boot up my computer the raid 0 failed to start....both of the drives are detected but only one appears to be in the raid 0 volume. I know the disc physically still have all there data on them because i have not touched them. Is there any way that i can recover that raid 0 volume? i ask because i have data programs and complicated mk links setup to manage the files.....and yes i know i should have backups..i have a asus p8z68-v pro gen 3 board with 8gb ram and a i5-2500k
All of the desktop Icons on my Father-in-Laws laptop have disappeared. He says he didnt do anything to cause it to happen. I have tried various methods read on this forum , to no avail. They are not in the recyle bin, and do not appear if I try to re-create them.
I had given my Pc to someone to fix it and he did that but also reinstalled windows 7 (fresh install), even though there weren't any problems with windows. I've lost all my settings, favourites, games, software etc. Is there any way to recover the old windows installation? Or atleast the favourites, games, software individually?
I recently lost my partitions while resizing it using a software.Getting directly to the point, I re installed windows 7 on C: after formatting it. But the D: drive where all my files are backed up is now unrecognized. I have used another recovery software and recovered some photos & videos, but I'm sure some more important files are still remaining. Can I rebuild or re-structure the D: drive using a software so that I get it back in its actual state, i.e just like how it was before my resizing accident? If yes, which is the software I should use/buy ?
I've been having problems restoring my laptop. It came with a system restore partition on it, but I've been unable to access it due to the laptop failing to stay on long enough to do so. So i wiped the laptop and installed my PC's copy of Windows 7 on there, didn't activate or anything. I did this so i could actually get in the laptop and restore it. When i installed it showed me the partition's still there for the recovery. So i installed on the main drive, leaving the recovery partition alone. Now I've got a fresh install I cant see how to recover it off that partition.
how to recover a lost confirmation page. I entered a lottery visa today. I wanted to print the confirmation page but firefox was not responding. At the request of my aunt, I clicked the option to close the firefox program. I restarted firefox and the confirmation page did not reappear. The tab is not in my browsing history either. Is there anyway I can retrieve the information from my computer files?I have tried looking at the browser history. It was the only page not showing up. I have tried looking at the firefox cache but it only showed the last two hours of activity. I have tried looking in the temp files but all of the ones I have went to in the computer are from days ago. I cannot find a folder that says internet temporary files.

I have just upgraded from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64 bit Windows 7 Professional. I did the custom upgrade and have a huge Windows.old folder that contains most of the files from my Vista setup. I forgot to save my Windows Mail files. I'm assuming that they are still in this folder somewhere. Is there a way to recover them to use in Outlook 2003 (its what my company still uses) or Thunderbird? I have tried a few methods to use Windows Mail in Windows 7 but haven't managed to get any of them working.
In trying to streamline my wifes Laptop (Win 7 64bit), I deleted her user account as she didn't like having to login and give herself permission for various actions all the time.Obviously this was the wrong way to go about it.However when I went to re-create the account using the same User name, Windows 7 treats it as a different account so she now can't access any of her items including documents, favourites and hundreds of photos.
I install a new window 7 and forget to backup the EFS certificate and key form windows xp, then now i can't decrypt or open the data. someone can tell me how to decrypt or recover data , that data extreme important.
I recently reinstalled my windows 7 professional on my laptop after it began behaving strangely. I had backed up most of my files but I realised there was one folder residing on my desktop which I had forgotten.
So my laptop's motherboard fried, and so I ended up creating a new desktop. I also got a usb enclosure for the old HDD, and managed to get most of the data off- with the exception of anything in my personal user folder- which includes documents, desktop files, and the download folder. I have the old Username/password for my old windows account but I have no idea how to retrieve it, as it keeps denying me access.
I think my computer got a virus. It was working fine until i shut it down. I tried to turn it on the next day and it said something like "windows is trying to repair the problem" or something like that. I tried to restore it to an earlier date but the same thing kept happening, so I just decided to use the repair disks. I clicked the "recover to out-of-box" state and it started loading, then suddenly a window reading ," recovery factor default software" popped up, following with a smaller window titled , "Copy File" and reading. "Invalid MS-DOS function.PREINST7.SWM Type:SWM File.Size: 643 mb.date modified: 9/3/2009 2:11 am try again, skip, cancel " I have a Toshiba L455-S5975 Windows 7 home premium 32 bit What does this all mean, and more importantly, what do I do?
My laptop died last week. Fortunately the hard drive was unaffected and I have this now in a USB enclosure that I can access via my new laptop. The problem is that the old machine came pre-installed with the SBE version of Office 2007 whereas the new one came with a trial version of Office 2010, which has subsequently been activated as the Starter edition of Office 2010.So, I have an Office 2007 pst file and only Windows Live Mail on the new laptop.I've already done extensive searching for a solution but they all seem to require that there is a running version of Outlook in order to extract the data from the file and present it in a way that WLM can import.I did look at Mailstore Home but it says that this configuration (pst) is only supported in the Server version, which having been installed refuses to run claiming the trial period has expired.
My Lenovo Thinkpad T400s running 64bit win7 has been freezing recently pretty often and so I have been shutting it down by pressing shut down button. It has recovered from it before, but at some point it would get stuck at 30% recovering and then start up after a long time. Now it is stuck at 6%. Before this it got up to 14% after keeping it on for 24hours. What can I do? It won't boot up from the recovery boot media either.
My laptop was fried when it crashed during a BIOS update and I need to get the files off of it. I do not have a SATA adapter but I do have another laptop that I can plug the hard drive into (which isn't corrupted). Obviously I cannot boot the computer up since the Windows installation is going to differ but I was wondering if there was any sort of bootable CD software that I could run to recover files from the drive. The hard drive was running 64 bit Windows 7.
