In the start menu the games I play don't go higher up the list, in fact they keep getting pushed down until they aren't even in the menu at all by programs that I run once in a blue moon.
Games should be ordered by how frequently they are used, the same way that all other programs are, despite the fact that there is a games folder.
...and yes, I'm aware that games can be pinned to the start menu.
Recently opened programs does not appear in the start menu.Windows help shows Click to open Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Customize. In the Customize Start Menu dialog box, in the Number of recent programs to display box, enter the number of programs you want to display on the Start menu, click OK, and then click OK again. Both the check boxes are disabled so I cannot make any changes.
I'd like to make my Start Menu bigger (increase its height, to be specific). I've seen someone post a screenshot here: http://news.softpedia.com/images/news2/Build-a-Monster-Windows-7-Start-M... Unfortunately, he didn't talk about how to achieve this.
I know that I can go into the Start Menu and Taskbar Properties menu > Customize > Start menu size and then and increase the number of recent programs to display, however, I really do not like to display recently opened programs (sorry to seem difficult). Is there any way to make the start menu size bigger without displaying recently opened programs?
I am trying to get my taskbar to store recently opened items but when I right click on the start menu and select properties I see that the check box is greyed out! I have no idea what I did to make it greyed out and more importantly, I have no idea how to get it back so that I can enable it again.
Today I decided to install some stuff on my computer as it was out of date..I installed Java, Flash player and adobe reader X but when I go to add/remove they are not showing up in that section?
A while back I used a few different programs to tweak Windows 7. One of the programs I used caused the recently used programs to stop showing up in the star menu. Under properties now I can't even set the number of programs to show because it is grayed out and unselectable. Any body know how to get this function back? I have ran SFC to see if there was something corrupt in Windows 7 with no errors returned. I think there is something turned off in the registry but have no idea where to look.
I have a really weird problem here. Pinning certain apps to the superbar causes them to stop appearing in the 'frequently used programs' list - but only for certain programs; currently I've noticed it with DestroyTwitter (an Adobe Air app) but more puzzlingly, with Winamp and VLC media player.
DestroyTwitter is set to minimize/close to systray and Winamp is docked but not set to appear in the superbar at all - so its icon is always in the systray even while it's technically not 'minimized' but hidden at the top of my screen.
On the other hand, VLC doesn't have any special tray settings. Also, Digsby works fine pinned and in the recent menu, and it's set to close to systray (though it minimizes to taskbar).
I know opening an app from the pinned apps doesn't 'count' towards the use count that the frequently used programs list is based on - but even opening them from their start menu entries doesn't make any difference until I manually unpin the app. The rest of the frequently used programs list works fine.
I can't figure this out. Anyone have any thoughts? (I've tried changing the minimize-to-tray settings, with no difference).
I recently had to wipe out my hard drive and re instal. Ever since I cannot hear with my head phones plugged in. the sound on the lap top has also reduced considerably.
Recently after I finished editing a .txt file in WordPad, I closed out of the program, but then immediately opened it back up because I forgot to change something. The program loaded, and I could see it and it's preview on the taskbar, but it would not show up on my screen. I hadn't installed or modified anything very recently also. Then later that day, after opening up Google Chrome, it did the same thing. I would not show the window on my screen. When I minimized and maximized the window from the taskbar, the animation showed the window going to the far right hand side and off the monitor. When I pressed "Windows Key +Tab" it showed the window, but wouldn't bring it to the front again. I'm not sure what is going on with my computer.
My startmenu just stays unchanged. I am on build 7068 64bit. On the previous builds the recently opened programs were listed in my startmenu with the jumplists.
If i minimize all my programs and see my background on desktop. If i open up internet explorer, all the other programs minimized will open up in the background! It's really anoying...What could the problem be?I use 1920x1080 in desktop and in games for example. And if i play Heroes of Newerth and i alt-tab, IE appears in the background of Heroes of Newerth and i can still see it beeing in the background. I tried differented "fullscreen/windowed mode" stuff there, but no difference.
It mostly happens in Lightwave 9.6 and Photoshop CS2. So the problem is that when I open a drop down menu in those programs the program either flickers a lot or it goes in the background and I have to alt+tab to get it back every time. It is really annoying because I can't do almost all important things in Lightwave and I can't save images in other formats in Photoshop beacuse of the drop down menu, and in other programs it flickers a lot and is just annoying.
In regards to the order of the program buttons on the task bar, is there a way to get Win7 to put the buttons in order of the way the programs are opened and not rearrange them? For example, I usually have my mailbox and my web browser open. (Nothing pinned to the task bar.) Mail is on the far left, browser is directly to the right of mail. If I go into mail and open an item in my inbox, I would expect (and like) the new task that shows in the task bar to be positioned to the right of the Browser button. Instead, it inserts itself to the right of Mail and pushes the Browser button to the right.
I recently got an Asus 1GB GTS450.It seems to be working fine with my 400Watt psu. However on the box of the card it says it needs a minimum 450 watts.Should I upgrade my psu? my card seems to work just fine.
In the last few days my computer has been functioning much more slowly. When I reboot it works pretty well, but then after a while, after I start opening applications (Word, Google Chrome, etc) it slows down immensely and it's driving me nuts. This a relatively new (bought in Feb) Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. i downloaded HijackThis v2.0.4 and ran it, but I can't find the log. And I get a pop-up error message: For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this."
Im looking for an app that when triggered would display icons of my recently closed apps. I have tried ReOpen but it just displays a list of the app names. Or maybe a rocketdock style app that just displayed recently closed app icons.
Had a BSOD last week, never had one in months, I was "ok, something happened it's not a problem". Just got a second one right now, so now I'm more like "what's happening "
Recently, I have been leaving my PC on a windowed game that isn't really CPU/GPU intensive at all. First four days of leaving it on this game my PC was fine, it came through the night, however the past 3 nights my PC has crashed different times throughout the nights and all data I had on the game lost. I also have a memdump from a program called WhoCrashed, ill post below along with my system specs.
Microsoft Windows: 7 Ultimate 32bit Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 4GB DDR2 RAM
So i recently downloaded daggerfall (off the elder scrolls website), which is the second in the elder scrolls series and installed it using dosbox. It then after much installation stated that i required a CD. But this shouldn't have happened and i followed all of the commands of the installation guide as i should have.
I have faced this problem recently, my computer starts boot slow and load folders, icon and internet pages slowly during startup. When I bought this computer I did not face any problem like this, it was running smooth and fast. I am using CCleaner to clean up my temp files and registries, but why it still runs slow?
I am encountering the BSOD problem which has started 2 days ago. I has started ocurring every 10-15 minutes now. The details are attached below.
Problem signature: Problem Event Name:BlueScreen OS Version:6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.48 Locale ID:16393 Additional information about the problem: BCCode:d1 BCP1:00000030
the little black arrow is there but no matter how many times I click it I can't see the recently used files. The same thing affects the taskbar menu (or whatever you call it), only these two options are available although I have watched many videos with VLC. This is happening only with VLC Media Player and IIRC only with the few latest releases of VLC (I'm now using the latest one, v.1.1.1).
My recently used files no longer appear in the right-click menu of the Word taskbar icon. What do I do to get them back? Windows 7 Home Premium Office 2010.
so recently (in november) i upgraded my cpu, mobo, and ram, and have been getting many bsods. my new cpu is the amd bulldozer 8 core, and since its been known to have some problems, i updated my bios to the latest available (a beta bios). that fixed my steam games giving bsods. now i randomly get bsods every once in a while (every week or two) but the last few days i have gotten a bsod every day. i have disabled c1e state on my bios, and that made it so i don't bsod while watching embedded Internet videos. i also installed the windows bulldozer hotfix, which made my pc faster. then i noticed something special about my bsods - they only seem to happen while i am doing something not very resource intensive, like web browsing. it never happens while i am playing a game. so i thought it might be a driver having issues with state changes of my cpu. i disabled c6 state in my bios just in case, but that didn't seem to help much.
I chose to ignore it as its the first time it happened and i hoped it wouldn't happen again.I came home 2 days after , and in 1 evening i got around 4 BSODs.Some BSODs occured while i was playing games , and they would happen with some lines appearing on the screen for a few seconds and the computer freezing , and then i would get the BSOD.I thought it was something GPU related , probably driver related , so i reinstalled the drivers and all , but nothing happened as they still occur.
Having been the receipiant of several BSOD's recently I eventually got around to formatting my HD, I have since installed all necessary drivers and several programs (Chrome, Firefox, VLC player, Adobe Suite, McAfee Security Centre, etc)he BSOD's have since reappeared and have occured 3-4 times now, I can't be sure whether this was before or after I installed McAfee. One detailed "page fault in non-paged area" the other something different I didn't quite catch before the system restart[CODE]
1/ My first problem is the speed/latancy of my PC, Its lagging quite alot now after running smoothly for a good 4 years with only 1 complete reinstall (from vista to Windows 7 ultimate 32bit which Im running now)Im finding it slowing to snail pace at times and when I open a large program like Photoshop only recently but it seems to not like this as much and even turns my PC to look more like Windows 98 when opening folders/web browsers all horrible and blocky.2/ I seem to have encountered a google type virus, which basically feels the need to open up adverts when I click on a link Ive seached for on google.Malwarebytes doesnt pick anything upAdaware picks up a load of unrelavant stuffSearch & Destroy finds nothingBut I still have the problem, Ive read up about it and even after deleting the problem you can still have this infecting your PC. Ive tried looking in the registry and looking at links on google where people have had the same problem but nothing.
3/ I have an external HDD which runs pretty smoothly. I keep it only for music and recently found 1 folder would slow up the entire drive to the point of crashing when ever I opened it and tried listening to the music in that folder. looking into this it has seemed to be 1 .wav file that has been causing problems, Ive removed this now and its sat in my recycle bin, Nothing will remove it from recycle though its just sat there, Cant delete it, Cant delete it with disk cleaner etc. nothing its still there
For Firefox 17, "Clear recent history"+"Everything"+All boxes selected sometimes does not clear all history of recently closed tabs & windows . I really don't know why but somebody said some of my installed plugins may make this error occurred.
Not wanting to use dual-booting - will I have problems switching SATA connections to run Win 7 Pro from a recently installed SSD and then from a HDD? This until I am satisfied with the transition to the SSD.
