Im looking for an app that when triggered would display icons of my recently closed apps. I have tried ReOpen but it just displays a list of the app names. Or maybe a rocketdock style app that just displayed recently closed app icons.
For Firefox 17, "Clear recent history"+"Everything"+All boxes selected sometimes does not clear all history of recently closed tabs & windows . I really don't know why but somebody said some of my installed plugins may make this error occurred.
I have my Sony Vaio laptop (windows 7) hooked up via hdmi cable to a tv, works fine but i want to close the laptop lid so it isn't open all the time to dust ect. can i close the lid without it going in to sleep mode or shutting down? How can i do this?
unrelated Also i have external hard drives hitachi 1 and 2 tb. When should i backup/replace them so i don't lose my data? Are there signs or signals to let me know and are there more reliable options for storing that much data?
My Toshiba laptop recently began to display a black screen upon start up. The starting windows screen appears, and then simply displays a black screen with cursor instead of login, and if I let it sit, it then restarts my whole system. However, I can force restart, and it allows me to run the computer in safe mode, and safe mode with networking support. My Mcafee Total Protection displays that my computer is at risk, but when I run a full system scan through safe mode, it produces no results. I then ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and it to yielded no results. Im thinking the best fix might be a nice baseball bat.
I can only connect to the network using 64 bit applications on Window 7 Pro SP1.The problem occured after installing the latest version of iTunes (may or may not be related). I uninstalled iTunes with no change. IE 32 bit crashes after opening. Firefox opens but gives Server Not Found error. I cannot connect webservers on the local network with Firefox either. Filezilla will not connect to local or remote servers. VNC will not connect to local servers - IE 64 works fine and command line tools like ftp and telnet to internal and external sites works fine - this is not a DNS, Firewall, or Routing issue.
Same results in Safe Mode sfc /scannow runs clean.
I reset the winsock, uninstalled all my network adapters, including the drivers and resinstalled them.Rebooted multiple times.Unfortunately I just discoved that System Restore was not enabled so I can't roll back.I doubt this is malware related as I have multiple levels of defense (postini, SpyShelter, Symantec Endpoint) and outside of iTunes have not downloaded or installed anything or even visited unusual websites. I'm about to do a deep scan that will probably take a few hours just to play it safe.
After I close programs that are still pinned to the task bar, can I install another program where the install wizard recommends closing any programs before continuing?
recently I've noticed that when I close my laptop that it won't go to sleep so when I went to change the "when lid closed" options in my power settings they wern't there. I also checked in the power button settings to the side.
I've been getting the BSOD for a few days now, this happens only when the laptop lid is closed. I have set the option "choose what closing the lid does" to "do nothing". this is because i have the broadband ON and I'm usually downloading stuff. When i open the lid I see a box that says "windows has recovered from an unexpected error" and the problem event name has "blue screen"
I have a laptop, Sony Vaio, which have the power button on the right side, not over the keyboard like some other models. So I would like to turn on the laptop by pushing the power button anytime - even when the lid is closed. But this is not the case, I can only turn on the laptop when i open the lid. I have connected my laptop to TV (as dock, via HDMI port) to look at movies. I have changed the power settings to do nothing when i closing the lid. Which works fine, but I still need to open a lid, turn on, and close the lid again! I think it should be an easy way to solve this problem. So i want to know is there any way to turn on windows when the lid is closed?
I wanted to have an external remote power button on my netbook, therefore I opened it and managed to put 2 wires from the button inside. The external button works, but one big problem remains:I cannot power UP the netbook when the lid is closed, even if I press the external remote power button?Instead, when lid is opened, the remote button works perfectly!
I have a standard PC => Router => Internet (Modem) connection at the moment and I didn't notice until just now but every single port on my machine forces itself closed. I know the issue is not with my ISP as they don't block any ports, I have had ports opened before, and as of noticing this issue opening ports works on my other PCs. After testing the router is also functioning perfectly and is not at issue with port forwarding.I do not run any type of anti-virus software and I also do not run any third party firewall software. Windows Firewall has been tried as both enabled and disabled (though they give different results). When connected to the internet through my router the opened ports appear as stealthed like all of the non-forwarded ports when windows firewall is enabled with proper rules and as closed when windows firewall is disabled. When connected directly through to my internet the ports all show as closed.
I have an Alienware M11x r1 and have disabled hybrid graphics to be able to use latest Nvidia drivers. Dell/alienware is not supporting new drivers for this. All seems to work except that when I close the lid then open it after machine goes in to sleep mode the screen will not turn on and machine requires a hard restart. I paid Alienware for help...big mistake now my laptop is worse.
In the start menu the games I play don't go higher up the list, in fact they keep getting pushed down until they aren't even in the menu at all by programs that I run once in a blue moon.
Games should be ordered by how frequently they are used, the same way that all other programs are, despite the fact that there is a games folder.
...and yes, I'm aware that games can be pinned to the start menu.
I recently got an Asus 1GB GTS450.It seems to be working fine with my 400Watt psu. However on the box of the card it says it needs a minimum 450 watts.Should I upgrade my psu? my card seems to work just fine.
This problem started a few days ago. Whenever I close my laptop, the computer shuts down. I've done the obvious and checked the settings for sleep, hibernate and shutdown on lid close, but those are all set to sleep, not shutdown. As you might imagine, this issue is a real hassle. I've been losing work and spending far too long on start up time with this.
The laptop itself is an hp pavilion dv4, if that might have anything to do with it.
Attachment 184027Windows 7, x64. Intel Core2 Duo CPU, 4 gig ram Original installation on the system, and I've never reinstalled it. I've had the laptop for about 1.5 years, Dell Studio 1555. It was bought new.
I get the BSOD at random moments, and it usually says fltmgr.sys (something like this) and the Driver Equal or Inequal message. I'm usually using my computer to go on the internet, although sometimes there's a BSOD when I close the lid. (I know because when I boot up the computer again it tells me there was an unexpected shutdown.)
Recently, with no system changes, suspicious downloads, or drops in recent history, my 6 Month old Clevo build began exhibiting two very bizarre symptoms:
1) Upon booting, Windows will start normally ,up until the mouse is rendered before the log in screen appears, then the system seems to power down. However, upon pressing the power button, the computer resumes booting right from where it left off as if it had entered a very rapid hibernation mode.
2) When the lid is closed during normal use, even when the system is not set to sleep or hibernate upon a lid closing, the system will hang permanently, with indicator lights like caps lock getting stuck either on or off and the hard drive light not turning on. This requires a hard reset to fix.
I have scanned memory, boot sectors, and the entire hard drive for malicious programs like worms, packers, and rootkits with Avast and Kapersky boot time scans to no avail. The system behaves normally otherwise, except during boot or lid closing. No overheating, screen flashing, or abnormal system processes are occurring. Though I have not yet checked the exact temps or checked the contents of rundll.I have a hunch it is the motherboard, but I don't have the screwdrivers to check or try to reset the SODIMMS.I have found a few questionable errors in the event log, but no strange processes in system resource manager. This is transcript of said questionable error log with all events from past 7 days (as of 11/27/2011) (with said issue arising on the 25th)The Download is 215 Kb compressed and 5 Mb uncompressed with over 7,000 events. On an unrelated note, the event log reports the processor getting underpowered, is this just a momentary thing during bootup or something that could hinder performance?
In the last few days my computer has been functioning much more slowly. When I reboot it works pretty well, but then after a while, after I start opening applications (Word, Google Chrome, etc) it slows down immensely and it's driving me nuts. This a relatively new (bought in Feb) Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. i downloaded HijackThis v2.0.4 and ran it, but I can't find the log. And I get a pop-up error message: For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this."
Had a BSOD last week, never had one in months, I was "ok, something happened it's not a problem". Just got a second one right now, so now I'm more like "what's happening "
Recently, I have been leaving my PC on a windowed game that isn't really CPU/GPU intensive at all. First four days of leaving it on this game my PC was fine, it came through the night, however the past 3 nights my PC has crashed different times throughout the nights and all data I had on the game lost. I also have a memdump from a program called WhoCrashed, ill post below along with my system specs.
Microsoft Windows: 7 Ultimate 32bit Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 4GB DDR2 RAM
So i recently downloaded daggerfall (off the elder scrolls website), which is the second in the elder scrolls series and installed it using dosbox. It then after much installation stated that i required a CD. But this shouldn't have happened and i followed all of the commands of the installation guide as i should have.
I have faced this problem recently, my computer starts boot slow and load folders, icon and internet pages slowly during startup. When I bought this computer I did not face any problem like this, it was running smooth and fast. I am using CCleaner to clean up my temp files and registries, but why it still runs slow?
I d/l and installed Firefox to see 'what it's all about'. I liked it. However, one day I was downloading some files and closed the browser. I noticed that when I did this all downloads terminated and left me with incomplete files. Since IE has never behaved this way I was most upset and gave Firefox the boot. This was many versions ago and am wondering if it still does this.
A couple of weeks ago this started happening : "Internet Explorer Unhandled Exception in third party module and should be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Send Report Close . Then IE closes and reopens. As many as 3 - 4 times on the same site?

I closed all the video windows, and ManyCam is still going on broadcasting. I changed the camera source to a different camera and it was still broadcasting (Usually when I press the close button, it stops broadcasting unless there is a video window open). How can I find out which program or process is using it?
This happens on every start up that my computer does, running Windows vista though.I've searched endlessly to find any trace of what this is on the internet but to no avail.
Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended crashes every time I quit out of it, and I don't know why. It's pretty annoying especially when it was fine closing a few days back.
