In Windows 7 Recently Used Word Files Didn't Appear
Mar 3, 2012My recently used files no longer appear in the right-click menu of the Word taskbar icon. What do I do to get them back?

Word Manage Didn't Leave The Screen?

Jul 19, 2012My work laptop was being changed from a Dell to a Lenovo and I was using Windows Backup & Restore to backup my important documents and emails. I took a final backup to my external hard drive before handing my old laptop to IT. Once I restored all my files I noticed the following:
1. Some files were not the latest versions, i.e. they were a month old.
2. Some subfolders simply weren't there. I had two subfolder in one of my folders and only one was restored and not the other. I made sure that I restored from the latest backup file.
VLC Media Player, Recently Used Files Not Showing Up?
Jul 25, 2010the little black arrow is there but no matter how many times I click it I can't see the recently used files.The same thing affects the taskbar menu (or whatever you call it), only these two options are available although I have watched many videos with VLC. This is happening only with VLC Media Player and IIRC only with the few latest releases of VLC (I'm now using the latest one, v.1.1.1).

I've looked at the settings and they are default. Using the option to not use indexing makes no difference.
I've tried this hotfix Windows search is not working and search is slow or shuts down without success.
Word 2007 Only Opening Old Files, Not Open Revised Files?
May 16, 2012My wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.

Dec 5, 2011I am writing this right now because after the last BSOD it said "Windows can not start" and I had to restore to when it was previously working. So up until that point this is what I did.Since working with computers almost my entire life I know most BSOD are due to either bad memory, drivers, or bios. I started there and updated my nvidea drivers but it happened again. I moved to the motherboard bios.I did find a newer one on there and using ASUS tool I flashed the BIOS. Same thing still happened. Next I ran memtestx86 for 8 hours and it returned no errors.At this point I just decided to look for newest drivers for everything. One thing that happened consistently was that my wireless USB adapter from Cisco had to be unplugged and plugged back in for it to work. I went there first, reinstalled the drivers but still the same thing. I thought maybe it was my hard drive. I downloaded Seagates Utility tool and ran all the tests and they all passed fine. I ran defrag just for good measure along with windows version of the mem test and that passed as well. I still continued to get the BSOD and I have to tell you I'm irritated and also stumped.
Next I moved onto software. I have been using AVG free for years but I know virus programs do some crazy stuff and I got rid of that. Turned on windows defender. I decided that since the wireless adapter didn't work after these crashes maybe lets just go to a direct wired connection. I disconnected the cisco wireless adapter and I'm just using a direct connect right to my router.These come at random times.. nothing I do can trigger it. It can stay on for days and not crash and then there are times it can be up for 10 min and crash.Some of you might notice that in the CPU-Z screenshots I had to take the screenshot with the error underneath. Every time I chose either of the two slots it crashed the program.I have not done anything internally besides add some neon to my computer which does not connect to the board at all.I have seen IRQL blue screen once so I even went as far to go into the power settings for windows and make sure the usb and everything never went into any kind of "standby" mode.
I believe this is still under warranty and I would like to go in with good information if I need to challenge and get new hardware if that's what it is.On a side note I have not touched the memory physically. I know some suggestions were to reseed the memory and chip but In my opinion something that has been working for months that never moves off my desk and is never basically touched besides the power button shouldn't mean something just came loose after 4 months of owning it.Again that's just my opinion. I have removed AVG, Ad-Aware, Some webcam motion detector software (which was a joke) and the only thing that was really installed was Skyrim.

Can't Use CTRL-F6 In Word When Open Multiple Files From Windows Explorer
Jan 19, 2012I believe I�ve run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If it�s not a bug, and can be �fixed� by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.) This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document.This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document. In the latter, it�s a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them. I�d like to understand what�s going on that�s different in the 2 cases. But I�d really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.

It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!

Feb 10, 2013I just uninstalled something related to Microsoft Office and now I can't seem to open any .docx files in my documents anymore. I am currently using Microsoft Word Starter 2010. The only way I seem to be able to open the files in my documents folder is opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first then go to file -> open the .docx file. If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

Jan 20, 2012I was tidying up my book files in my Calibre library and deleted around 850MB. I noticed that the deletion process took around 5mins to complete. I thought that was strange as I have had multi GB files in my Recycle bin many times before which have taken no more than a few seconds to delete. I also make a backup of my Windows on the first of each month and delete the previous months back up which is over 50GB and this only takes a few seconds as well.

But when I try to edit and save them on the newer files I get the following error:I've checked ownership and permissions, they both appear to be set properly, and that gives a different error anyway.I've also noticed that the older Word 2003 files allow for a thumbnail icon of the document, but this doesn't work for 2007 even if the thumbnail box is checked. Jul 15, 2010I recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean.

Jan 16, 2013I seem to be getting this message and the prompt to boot into safe mode everytime I startup or reboot. Everything seems to be shutting down normally. This wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that it seems to be loading an old system restore point whenever it does this. I don't know for sure if these 2 issues are connected. I first started getting the "Windows didn't shutdown properly" prompt after I had to do a reset of my computer during a total lock. I can't say for sure if the system restore point issue began when I first saw this as I don't shutdown my computer very often.

Inserted the 3 recovery disk one at a time and after 37 minutes the message said the recovery was a success and then the next screen came up said insert media disk just like it did when I first started. Does this mean that windows 7 didn't recognize the ssd and if that's the case what is the next step.
