Can't Open Microsoft Word Files?
Feb 10, 2013I just uninstalled something related to Microsoft Office and now I can't seem to open any .docx files in my documents anymore. I am currently using Microsoft Word Starter 2010. The only way I seem to be able to open the files in my documents folder is opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first then go to file -> open the .docx file. If I try opening it directly from my documents folder without opening Microsoft Word Starter 2010 first, there's a popup that says "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

Jun 7, 2011I am trading drafts of a document with a friend by gmail. When I download the Word document, it is automatically saved as a doc.x, and the formatting is messed up. Also, when I attach the revised document to an email to send back, the Word document is automaticalled attached as a doc.x. How can I disable this?

Nov 7, 2012My HD on the Win7 laptop would not read (later diagnosed as CRC errors, etc, etc), so, I attached it to my MacBook and managed to get all the photos off it. They came across as .jpg OK, but when I put them to a Win 7 OS they will not open.

Jul 15, 2010I recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean.

The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Jan 19, 2012I believe I�ve run into a bug with Windows Explorer, however, it could possibly be with Word 2010. If it�s not a bug, and can be �fixed� by your helping me, that would be wonderful! (I use Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.) This is what does work just fine: From Word, I open a file, then open another file, then another. I am able to use the CTRL-F6 to move from document to document.This is what does not work: I open those same 3 files from Windows Explorer, by using the mouse to select them and hit ENTER. The files do open in Word. However, the CTRL-F6 keystroke does not work to be able to move from document to document. In the latter, it�s a little bit as if Windows Explorer is starting multiple copies of Word. However, from the Word icon on the taskbar, both cases look the same, i.e., when I hover over the icon, I can see the 3 miniature files, and can click into any of them. I�d like to understand what�s going on that�s different in the 2 cases. But I�d really love to learn of how I can make the latter case work. With my work, I do this process (open multiple files from Windows Explorer) dozens of times a day, and I need efficiency. It takes a lot longer to open each file one-by-one. It also takes longer to not be able to use CTRL-F6.

Windows Photo Viewer gives an error message saying the pic files cannot be opened because the software "can't support the file or needs updated". Photo Gallery says the pic files "may be unsupported, damaged or corrupted" and Paint says, file is "not a valid bitmap file" or the format is not currently supported. Jun 9, 2011This problem also started today on my system with 64 bit windows. The problem occurs when adding tags or other editing jpg file types in all the graphic programs i have on my machine. The problem only started today and has not been a problem in the last 3 years i have been using windows 7 including betas.
The files attributes are being changed by the operating system during system saves to being a hidden file type when it appears native windows 7 system calls are made, it isn't happening during inital file saves from my camera or scanner. Yes the files are viewable in win exploerer when the show hidden files is check in file and search options and files can be changed back to being standard files by manually changing the attributes but this shouldn't be happening at all. JPG files are not a reserved system file type that are typically hidden my windows to prevent them from being deleted by ignorant system users.

I thought that perhaps I had accidentally deleted them, so I used recuvar to try and retieve them but they were nowhere to be seen. I am sure that I didn't delete them, and if I had they would have shown up on the recuver deep scan, but they didn't. I then thought they could have been deleted by a virus, but when I did a scan I only found a tracking cookie- that's the only things I found.
