View 3 RepliesI did a photo recover. Some of my photos were recovered, but the ones I wanted came out corrupt. Some of them come out really weird, but most of them say "Cannot Open This Filetype" all of the photos are .jpg even the ones the are working. How do I fix this so that I can see all/most of them perfect or near perfectly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis problem also started today on my system with 64 bit windows. The problem occurs when adding tags or other editing jpg file types in all the graphic programs i have on my machine. The problem only started today and has not been a problem in the last 3 years i have been using windows 7 including betas.
The files attributes are being changed by the operating system during system saves to being a hidden file type when it appears native windows 7 system calls are made, it isn't happening during inital file saves from my camera or scanner. Yes the files are viewable in win exploerer when the show hidden files is check in file and search options and files can be changed back to being standard files by manually changing the attributes but this shouldn't be happening at all. JPG files are not a reserved system file type that are typically hidden my windows to prevent them from being deleted by ignorant system users.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new computer, i7 860 and have put 7 x64 on it.
my motherboard is ausus p7p55d and has one ide socket on the board.
I was using this socket for my cd and dvd drives but I have detached them so I can plug in my old IDE hard drive.
I was using the IDE drive just 2 days ago in my old system.
Sometimes when I boot up the drive is seen and sometimes not.
when the drive is seen I try and copy some files over to my new sata drive I have in the new system. some of the files copy over but the the IDE drive always gets stuck. when I try to cancel the copy windows stops responding partially and I cant get out of the copy window and the old IDE hard drive explorer window.
So I restart windows and normally it now doesn't see the IDE drive.
What is going wrong?
How do I get my files off this hard drive?
I decided to built a new custom made computer and would like to know if I can just attached the old sata hard drive to the new motherboard?I read that I have to have the same motherboard for the hard drive to work or else it will reformat the hard drive, is this true?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHad a HP running Vista Home Premium. System board croaked and owner elected to buy a new HP with Win 7 Home Premium. I figured it would be a piece of cake to mount the old HD via a USB connection and run Windows 7 Easy Transfer to migrate things from there to the new computer.I had to copy everything over manually, one profile at a time.
This seems like an obvious scenario that WET should handle but it doesn't. Was there any other automated process I could have used? Just curious at this point as the work has already been done and the new computer is up and running.

In case it makes any difference, the computer that hard drive originally was in ran Windows XP Pro.I recently got a new computer, with Windows 7 and had the hard drive put into this new computer, along with the hard drive that came in the computer.I can get to the drive itself, but when I try to access folders or files, either access is denied or folders which should contain more folders, are empty. I have tried changing the permission and ownership options on the drive, but no luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI wonder if anyone knows if there is a way I can restore an image I accidentally overwrote. I use Windows 7 and yesterday, I created a Jpeg file in Photoshop. This morning, between waking up and taking coffee and talking to someone, I accidentally overwrote this file by downloading a photo from my email (when the dialogue box asked Replace this file? I inexplicably clicked on YES!)
I have restored my Windows to a previous date - the file stayed the same. I went to restore the folder which contained the file to a previous date, but there were only 2 dates - this morning and 2 days ago (when the file didn't exist). I clicked on this morning hoping it would take me back to the moment before I downloaded the photo, but it looks as though it's taken me to the moment AFTER. Now I can't do anything because there are no previous options (in the folder or picture) to restore to.
It looks as though I'll just have to cut my losses and spend the day re-creating the lost Jpeg but I thought there just might be another way...
Is it possible to pin a jpeg file to the task bar so that I can easily open it with a single click from wherever I am. It is possible to pin it to the jump list for some programs on my Taskbar (eg Calculator & Notepad) but not to others (eg Explorer). I can also pin it to the Start menu. However, trying to pin it directly to the Taskbar fails.
And the reason for all this? The jpeg is a picture of the 2011 calendar which I would like to be able to call up with a single click from wherever I am and whatever is on the screen at the time.

Windows Photo Viewer gives an error message saying the pic files cannot be opened because the software "can't support the file or needs updated". Is there a way to make SFC use the Windows 7 DVD for files to be replaced instead of the files on the hard drive?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).
My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.
The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.
I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.
Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.
UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.
