It used to be there when I clicked in start (the little window thing in the corner) but I can't find it now.

TaskBar Customization - Store Recently Opened Items
Jan 13, 2012I am trying to get my taskbar to store recently opened items but when I right click on the start menu and select properties I see that the check box is greyed out! I have no idea what I did to make it greyed out and more importantly, I have no idea how to get it back so that I can enable it again.

I've looked at the settings and they are default. Using the option to not use indexing makes no difference.
I've tried this hotfix Windows search is not working and search is slow or shuts down without success.

Nov 8, 2010how do I add to the left of windows dialog boxes 'recent items'? I know how to activate recent items in the start menu and I know what recent places is about but neither gives links to recent _items_ i.e. files in dialog boxes.For e.g. you want to attach a file you have just worked on to an email in outlook. You click the paperclip icon and you get the dialog box. You click on recent places and all you get are the folders you have recently opened and saved to. If the folder is not there or you're not sure in which folder the file is in it does not help you find the file.

(I am a one-man business, keep my business on my laptop and take it away on business every week and want good security: I have read that Bitlocker will give me that.)The problem seems to be that most big online suppliers don't even offer any laptops with Ultimate - I can buy laptops with Home, Pro, but not Ultimate. When I do find a supplier online who offers laptops with Ultimate, there are maybe just 2 or 3 and they are high-end prices. Should I buy a laptop with Home or Pro and an Ultimate upgrade license and install the Ultimate myself? (I'm not an IT expert and understand it would need disk partitioning.) Or do most suppliers agree to install Ultimate for the price of the license before shipment?

May 11, 2011I was extracting icons to add custom icons to my HTC Thunderbolt's framework, I extracted a huge folder to my desktop by accident and now I can't move or delete these icons on my desktop. Jul 30, 2011I was having a problem earlier with tons of BSOD's, but after getting some help here I was able to solve the problem. But lo and behold I try to install something and get this new problem. I tried going into cmd and unregistering windows installer and then re-registering it but that didnt work. Someone suggesting going into regedit and going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCURRENT CONTROL SETSERVICESMSIserverWOW64 then right click on WOW64, then select Modify Set Value Data to 0 (mine was set at 1) and Base should be Hexadecimal. However, I can't even do this because when I go to MSIserver there is no WOW64 folder so I don't even know what to change.
System restore doesn't work earlier. I really want to avoid a complete reinstall. I was able to avoid it with my BSODs but now with this new issue I cannot install anything on my computer.

Jun 27, 2010I am getting an error when I am attempting to install the C++ Redistributable Package that says:
"Windows Installer Service cannot be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
I have attempted to look up what this means, however all of the guides I find are for Windows 2000 or Server 2003! I have also had the same error message pop up when I try to manually install updates with Windows Updater.

Apr 15, 2012This happened the last time I reformated and I don't really understand what's going on. I have 4 harddrives. 1 SSD and the rest are standard 7200RPM drives. This is the error I get when I try to install something.
Weird thing is I can't even play games cause I get this error too.
I did unplug the harddrives from the motherboard when I cleaned it, don't know if that could cause a problem, I don't believe they we're put in the same spots.

Printer On 7 Not Being Accessed By XP
Jun 30, 2009My main pc is using Windows 7 64 bit build 7100, my kids pc is using XP Pro. Previously we had the networking with my main pc using Vista working perfectly, the XP pc could print on the printer connected to my pc, since I put Windows 7 on this pc. I have the networking with file sharing etc working great but cannot get the XP pc to be able to print anymore. The printer is an Epson RX690.

Windows 7 x64
Open DNS w/ all extra security options checked (phishing protection, basic malware/botnet protection, block internal ip addresses)
Wireless Router w/ a firewall MAC address filtering and WPA2 password protection
Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 (currently doing a full scan was on automated scanning daily)
I haven't opened any strange looking email attachments or gone to any unknown websites. I'd like to think I'm rather computer savvy but I'm stumped on this one.
Edit: forgot to mention the spammer gained access to a Yahoo! Mail account.
Edit 2: the browser I'm using is Google Chrome.
