View 1 RepliesI just partitioned my C drive and now have an I: drive that I use for data, music and movies and such. My question is this: if I have to do a system recovery. Will I lose that partition? Or will Windows 7 re-install on the C: drive without touching that partition?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).
My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti
As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.
I am trying to reinstall HP Phoosmart full setup in windows 7. Ihave downloaded the latest installation package frm the website but when I try to install it I get the message "The file cannot be accesed by the system". The file concerned is C:Program FilesHP(988329F4-A1A1-4D51-803C-EF2725A97627)gupauto. When I look for the file I can find it in the correct place.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my HP Laptop which came with Windows Vista as the OS. I want to upgrade to Windows 7 so I bought Windows 7 from my local store.I entered the disc and did boot from CD. It reached to the page where it shows the disk partition. I deleted the partitions and created new one. However, whenever I create the partition, it creates a primary one and gives me error saying Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition.
View 9 Replies View Relatedis not empty - it is almost 80% full but when i click on it there are no files. Tried - to the extent of my knowledge - to see if the files are hidden but didn't reach anywhere. Tried a restore point but that didnt work either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a copy of windows 7 from a friend. (USB, possibly enterprise)It runs well, is official and can be re installed and is verified through the Microsoft site, so the media doesn't seem to be a problem.I was able to install Win7 Ult x64 on my WinVista HomePrem x86, but I went back through to clean the hard drive (it was full, I didn't format before) and after low level formatting I cannot reinstall the OS. The harddrives are completely empty, and I get stuck at "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," after hitting next when you are selecting the HD partition to install on. I tried a couple of things already:
-Installing on another harddrive
-Formatting using Hiren's bootcd
-Using a hard drive with XP installed to see if it is an upgrade and not a full version (no luck, still wouldn't install)
-diskpart > list disk > select disk 0 > list partition > active \ in cmd..I have three hard drives attached to the computer right now, they can't all be broken. T.T
Recently my SSD failed so I tried installing windows 7 from DVD on my HDD but I always get an error message: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition."I've tried everything I could find here: I gave boot priority to the HDD, I unplugged every other device but nothing seems to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThrough a series of shenanigans involving experiments with mirroring on Windows 7 64 bit using Disk Management, and then subsequently removing the mirror after having recurring errors/problems with the synching, My 100MB System Reserve partition has ended up on a separate partition than my system image. For instance: Disk 1 System C: Healthy (Boot, page...) Disk 0 Healthy (System Reserved...).
In addition, the System Reserved partition has been assigned a drive letter "G:" or "E:" and is now visible in explorer and it won't allow me to remove it and supress from explorer view.
I'd like to
1) move/create the System Reserve partition to Disk 1 (with System C: drive)
2) remove the System Reserve partition from Disk 0 to free it all up as a data drive
Do I use command below to create a System Reserve on Disk 1? bcdboot C:Windows How do I then delete the System Reserve partition on Disk 0. Also a byproduct of all of this, when I reboot now, I have a "Windows 7" option and a "Windows 7 Secondary Plex" option. The "Windows 7" option no longer boots (it's stops while the logo panes are flying in circles to form the logo and goes into a fix loop that never fixes it). I have a feeling it's looking for the old mirrored hardware configuration or something. However, "Window 7 Secondary Plex" option does boot just fine. Do I use MSCONFIG to remove the "Windows 7" boot entry so I don't get this annoying option at boot?
I have Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit installed on DELL desktop (Optiplex 990) i7 Core. I have two HDD: Disk 0 contains the operating system 500GB. and Disk 1 empty 1TB.
I want to make a partition on disk 1 to mirror the operating system partition and keep the remaining for data storage. I tried to do but I had the following error message: "All disks holding extents for a given volume must have the same sector size, and the sector size must be valid."
I tried to attach a screen shot but couldn't.
My daughter has a Dell XPS with Windows 7 on it. It was having alot of issues so short verision after several house with Dell support they told me I would have to tell the computer to go back to the factory version. I followed the steps told to me and now nothing works. When I turn the computer on I do get the Windows word to start then a flash of something that could be an error message of some sort but its not there long enough for me to be sure. I then get something about I need to run a repair, which I do but the repair doesnt work. I tried putting the original install disk in the same thing happens. I have been told to try getting the recovery partition to open but I dont know how. Does this sound right? If so how do I do that and if not what should I do.

View 7 Replies View Relatedjust want to know if it is safe to delete the recovery partition so i can unlock more gb in my hp notebook. when i first bought it, it was with vista preinstalled. so the recovery partition is vista, but i did make a complete rescue disk of my computer the first time i turned it on with windows recovery. so my question is, is it ok and with no problem, that i can just format the recovery partition, since i actually never use vista, but windows 7. it wounldt mess my laptop??
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to resize a partition, so I backuped all important files and booted from a vista PE CD. The program used is called "Easeus". After the resizing a message appeared, which told me that the system information couldnt be updated. After a restart, it - well, it didnt restarted. I tryed to format my C:Windows partition, but Easus decided to randomly format my linux partitin, too. Yey. After that i just formated everything, so i can create one big partition so this never happens again :P. To put it in a nutshel, there is no way to boot besides from booting from a cd. The diagnostic tool of the fabricator is giving me the "error code: BIOHD-3 No bootable drives detected" message.I tried to fix it with a win7 repair disk (just realized, that the disk is for 64bit, i have a 32 bit os - i think it doesnt matter, because there isnt any os installed at all). I used pretty much every "bootrec" command, sucessful, but no change. The startup repair gave this message: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" diskpart - act isnt helping either: "The specified partition type is not valid for this operation."I dont know if i could install any os from a disk - i dont have a bootable installation cd/dvd. Because of that i would be happy if someone can tell me where i can find a free os and how i install it. From a os i can install my win 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a dual boot on my computer with Windows 7 and XP. Unfortunately as my computer is quite old my hard drive is not very big and with it being partitioned I am fast running out of disk space. So I tried to shrink the XP partition to allow me more disk space for Windows 7. Unfortunatley this would only let me shrink it by 83mb for some reason. I decided that since I barely use XP anymore that I would simply reformat the XP drive then try and merge them together. When I tried to format the partition it just gave the error "Windows was unable to complete the format". I then discovered in Disk Management that the Windows XP partition was the system partition which was causing the problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have started the installation process of windows 7 on a clean 1 TB hard drive. In order to ensure expediency of the read time of my primary drive, I choose the custom installation. When I did I partioned the drive as 250GB & 700GB. Hoever it also created a 100MB system partition on its own. It never did this in Vista. Is it suppose to do that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMade the mistake of deleting this partition, and really regret it since it would of been handy to have if i install win 7 again. So feeling bad about that. Any way i could get a PQSERVICE (a recovery) partition back on there?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy sister just got a new laptop with 7, then accidentally installed a friend's version of 7 on top of it, thinking it was Microsoft Office. I'm trying to restore to factory settings so she doesn't lose all the software that came with the computer.
I know the recovery partition is on the computer (I made it appear by assigning it a drive letter). But I cannot boot from it (or whatever I need to do to access it).
I have tried the following:
1) Advanced Boot Options -> Repair -> System Image Recovery: no system image
-> System Restore: no restore point
2) all possible F# keys at startup, including F10 which got me to Edit Boot Options, which seemed hopeful because it named the partition number, 3, but did not allow me to change it (the recovery partition is 2).
3) F2 -> setup (nothing there)
4) burning an iso of Windows 7 recovery disc, which just gave me the same repair tool as in the 1st attempt.
5) setting the recovery partition as "active" (in fact, I think it was already active).
I recently upgraded my Acer 722 netbook to an 265GB SSD and installed Windows 7 on it. I was wondering if there was a way to create a partition for a recovery environment (just in case something happens). I have a system image of this pc saved, however I feel it would be best to also create a recovery partition.
Note: This does not have a CD drive.
I am using dell insipiron 1464 model with preinstalled windows 7 home basic os.i have lost my installation cd.now how do i take backup of my os in separate dvd or usb drive with the help of recovery partition.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Vaio VPCEC4SOE I bought cheap - needs a new screen. After purchasing first thing I done was a Reinstall of windows using F10 on boot up and following instructions. However after all finished Task manager showed 90+ processes at idle and the amount of bloatware was more than I had ever seen included with any PC.So, Made up a Windows 7 Install disc as I wanted to go for a totally fresh install. Once installed it asked for product key - I checked underneath and half of the sticker is missing (I know I should have checked before hand!) Plus thinking about it after I really don't think the product key can be reused even if it is on the same machine (can someone confirm?)I now have a nice clean operating system, but no product key, that will self destruct in 27 days! So I would like to return to VAIO factory state. I have checked and recovery partition is still there and intact - 13gb, but how can I reinstall from this partition? F10 now does nowt on boot up.
