System Recovery - Will Partition Lost After Reinstalling Windows 7?

Aug 26, 2011

I just partitioned my C drive and now have an I: drive that I use for data, music and movies and such. My question is this: if I have to do a system recovery. Will I lose that partition? Or will Windows 7 re-install on the C: drive without touching that partition?

Windows 7 Wont Boot, Lost Recovery Partition?

May 19, 2012

I was trying to restore my Toshiba Sattelite L645-S4056 to factory default and reinstall windows 7 by inbuilt recovery system. While i was formatting the computer swtiched off itself. Then i couldnot access inbuilt recovery during booting. The computer wont boot with any windwos cd. It said something like "Cannot boot.Enter a bootable disc". I then installed a linux distero by booting with a USB device. The linux system works fine but i need windows 7. It shows that my hardisk is totally empty. There is no reserved part previously occupied by recovery system.I didn't get a recovery disc with my laptop. Any other dvd wont boot. How can i install back my Windows 7? What is wrong with the system? Is there any way to get windows 7 back?

Lost Drive Letter On Healthy (Active, Recovery Partition)?

Oct 19, 2012

I am running Windows Ultimate 32 bit. I have 2 SATA Hard Drives (one with OS), 2 SATA DVD and Blu-Ray Drives and 1 IDE Hard Drive which is configured as a slave.Second - I needed to do some hard drive trouble shooting for another computer that had a (possibly) dead IDE Hard Drive. To do this I shut down my computer, and attached the (supposedly) dead IDE Hard Drive in its place. Now - all the trouble began. After booting into the Bios, I noticed the supposedly dead hard drive did not register even though it was spinning. I kept booting into the OS to see if it would be recognized in any case - it was not.I put my working IDE Hard Drive back in - after shutting down and removing the dead IDE Hard Drive.I booted back into the BIOS and noticed my good IDE Hard Drive wasn't being recognized either. I then went into advanced Bios settings and walla - it saw my hard drive but said I needed to reboot. After rebooting I noticed the same thing with the Bios, but this time proceeded to boot into the OS.After signing on, I noticed my Good Hard Drive was no longer recognized in Explorer. I went into Administrator and Computer Management and then into Disk Management.

Deleted System Partition First Windows 7, HDD Part Missing, 30gb Lost?

Dec 31, 2012

I am Ranko, from Europe ( Serbia, but in the eyes of world not so desired country so I do not mention it... but great food , great parties and the most beautiful girls should compensate )Ok. What I did. During Win 7 installation on my new Lenovo G780 ( 500gb HDD ) , I have deleted system ( 0 ) partition firstWin 7 offered/created 30gb system, 30gb primary, 440gb primary 2 ( unallocated ) and one Lenovo OEM partition 1mb.As my friend said , always first go from behind but I didint. Now I am missing 30gb of space, and can not retrieve it. So if I do installation from the beginning i just have 470 GB of space to alocate to partitions ( for example 100mb system , 100gb Primary & 369gb Primary 2 )So 30GB seems lost. I have installed win 7 and run diskmgmt.msc and only 1 disk with 470gb is shown.I tried linux with that partition software and the same... it shows just 470gb of space...30GB are missing/lost/not existing.Once again... so sorry guys for posting this issue since maybe it is something that is common, but I really do not want to give up. It is not up to 30GB , it is about the principle , I have to retrieve it!

Boot / Crash Dump And Primary Partition - System Recovery Option Incompatible

Jul 22, 2012

I have a brand new Windows 7 64bit build with a clean install from an Upgrade CD and noticed in BIOS that my 1st boot device must be "Windows Boot Manager" or it asks for the CD. I only have 1 storage device (SSD) in the system and when I look under Disk Management in windows, it shows a 100MB "EFI System Partition" in addition to the primary partition (which is labeled "Boot, Crash Dump, and Primary Partition" - so it seems to have the boot files on it).

My components are:
Intel i5 3570K
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H mainboard
16GB Crucial Ballistix
Intel 520 180GB SSD
LG BD optical drive
GTX 560ti

As I only have the one non-optical storage device I did not set any partition parameters at install. I Attempted to do a Startup Repair with the windows disc to maybe try and delete the EFI partition and got the "... System Recovery Options is incompatible with the version you are trying to repair" error. Not sure what that is. If Disk Management shows a healthy partition with "Boot" listed as being contained, why can I not select the SSD as boot device #1? I can boot perfectly fine with the Windows Boot Manager listed as boot device #1 and the SSD as #2, however it's not ideal.

Reinstalling Windows 7 On Different Partition

Nov 1, 2009

have installed W7 64bit on separate partition (was H) on 2nd HDD (15mins)leaving XPPro on Drive C.
After install Win 7 has re assigned itself as drive C and drive C is now drive D (which didn't exist before(well - used by DVD). XP isn't shown as an available OS but have managed to see and use it using EasyBCD to add it to boot manager. On reboot however, once win7 or xp has been chosen, closing down and rebooting offer neither as an option with error

file ootBCD
status 0xc000000f

an error has occurred while trying to read the boot config data

Both systems seem to work fine but have to repair the 7 installation first. One thing I did do was assign Win 7 as a different computer name and I have read this might cause problem

Should I reinstall win 7?

I used Partition Wizard 6.0 the last few times, but need some guidance now. So, I have:

- A used machine I want to wipe clean and then start from scratch, eventually allowing it to boot from the Windows 7 installation disk.

- Umpteen utilities besides Partition Wizard

- A keen desire to have this happen while I'm still young

HP Recovery Still Runs From F11 After Clean Reinstalling To C?

Aug 14, 2011

There seems to be a change in HP's over the past few years so that if you clean reinstall from boot to C and leave the 199mb System Reserved Partition, Recovery and HP TOols partitions intact, you can later run Full Factory Recovery or Minimized OS Image Recovery by booting F11.Previously if you deleted, formatted, wiped or just clean reinstalled to C it was iffy whether F11 Factory Recovery would later boot to run. It's still a good idea to make your Factory Recovery disk set, but if you have room to let those three partitions remain you have a more stable Factory Recovery method if you might ever need it via F11 at boot.HP Backup and Recovery Manager HP Recov DIsks - make another set Reinstalling Windows 7dit: The Minimized OS Image Recovery option also is about as close to clean reinstall as you can get using Factory Recovery, with only the HP Support Assistant, Recovery Manager and Wireless Assistant reimaging

Does Reinstalling Using Recovery Discs Work

Dec 17, 2012

I'm about to help my mom reinstall her computer. She has a nasty virus that is preventing her from her job as a reservation agent (she works from home), and I need to make sure I can fully reinstall correctly before diving in. Whenever I have needed to reinstall my own computer, all I have to do is restore directly from the hard drive. Her computer isn't quite built like this. Initially, she had to create recovery discs to restore from instead, and I have never dealt with recovery discs before. Is it done the same exact way as restoring from the hard drive? I have found 4 DVDs. She initially created 2 but they failed and apparently she had to start over and create the 4 I found. I'm slightly worried about installing this wrong.. I'm afraid there might be a 5th disc, although she insists there are 4. Are there any precautions I should take before going through with it?

Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition

Jun 23, 2012

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Creating New Partition When Reinstalling Win XP?

Apr 4, 2011

I have recently purchased a new Samsung NC110 netbook with Windows 7 Starter installed. However, I find it runs fairly slowly so I intend to install XP on it from an old installation disc. However, when I first started my netbook I set up a partition with 40Gb allocated to the C drive and the remaining 240 to a D drive. Not being that computer savvy I got confused and despite having a portable hard drive for back up and the computer having a separate hidden restore partition, I went ahead with this.My question is that if I start again with XP can I reset the partition to a single C drive with separate restore area?

MBR Partition Error When Reinstalling From 32 Bit To 64 Bit

Apr 6, 2012

I have just ugraded most parts of my PC including going from 2gb of ram to 8gb. As I am currently running windows 7 home premium 32bit I believe my pc will only be reading 4gb of this ram.

I have downloaded a 64 bit installation iso file & burnt to disk, upon reinstalling I was planning on re-using my current windows product key.

Once past the custom installation option I recieve an error message along the lines of "The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

I belive my Hard drive has 2 partions, 1 main area for saving files & program files. It also has a factory image drive. This is the first time I have built a PC, Is frustrating to have go this far on my own and get seemingly stuck on what is hopefully the last hurdle

Unable To Create A New System Partition Or Locate An Existing System Partition

Aug 13, 2012

I have a copy of windows 7 from a friend. (USB, possibly enterprise)It runs well, is official and can be re installed and is verified through the Microsoft site, so the media doesn't seem to be a problem.I was able to install Win7 Ult x64 on my WinVista HomePrem x86, but I went back through to clean the hard drive (it was full, I didn't format before) and after low level formatting I cannot reinstall the OS. The harddrives are completely empty, and I get stuck at "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition," after hitting next when you are selecting the HD partition to install on. I tried a couple of things already:

-Installing on another harddrive
-Formatting using Hiren's bootcd
-Using a hard drive with XP installed to see if it is an upgrade and not a full version (no luck, still wouldn't install)
-diskpart > list disk > select disk 0 > list partition > active \ in cmd..I have three hard drives attached to the computer right now, they can't all be broken. T.T

Reinstalling Windows On Partitioned System

Nov 29, 2009

Kinda surprised me that I wasn't offered a choice on original Windows 7 install regarding volume size (maybe I missed it) or advised about that little 100MB hidden partition thing. But anyway I have my son's system partitioned in a manner that's comfy but have been having some annoying system issues. See link below:

Windows Explorer gets Tired & Can't logout

If these can't be resolved, wanted to reinstall Windows 7-64 fresh....Not really relevant but here's the partition scheme:

** - System reserved (100MB)

C: Boot Drive (64 GB)

D: Swap & Temp Files (16 GB)

E: Games (480 GB)

F: Programs (64 GB)

G: Data (256 GB)

H: Backups (remainder)

So I imagine that things haven't changed too much ... The install DvD will identify where Windows is and ask me what I wanna do but how does the presence of this 100 MB hidden partition fall into the mix ? Will it, like previous versions just write over what it needs and leave D thru H alone, or are special instructions necessary ?
