HP Recovery Still Runs From F11 After Clean Reinstalling To C?
Aug 14, 2011
There seems to be a change in HP's over the past few years so that if you clean reinstall from boot to C and leave the 199mb System Reserved Partition, Recovery and HP TOols partitions intact, you can later run Full Factory Recovery or Minimized OS Image Recovery by booting F11.Previously if you deleted, formatted, wiped or just clean reinstalled to C it was iffy whether F11 Factory Recovery would later boot to run. It's still a good idea to make your Factory Recovery disk set, but if you have room to let those three partitions remain you have a more stable Factory Recovery method if you might ever need it via F11 at boot.HP Backup and Recovery Manager HP Recov DIsks - make another set Reinstalling Windows 7dit: The Minimized OS Image Recovery option also is about as close to clean reinstall as you can get using Factory Recovery, with only the HP Support Assistant, Recovery Manager and Wireless Assistant reimaging

I'm about to help my mom reinstall her computer. She has a nasty virus that is preventing her from her job as a reservation agent (she works from home), and I need to make sure I can fully reinstall correctly before diving in. Whenever I have needed to reinstall my own computer, all I have to do is restore directly from the hard drive. Her computer isn't quite built like this. Initially, she had to create recovery discs to restore from instead, and I have never dealt with recovery discs before. Is it done the same exact way as restoring from the hard drive? I have found 4 DVDs. She initially created 2 but they failed and apparently she had to start over and create the 4 I found. I'm slightly worried about installing this wrong.. I'm afraid there might be a 5th disc, although she insists there are 4. Are there any precautions I should take before going through with it?

I just partitioned my C drive and now have an I: drive that I use for data, music and movies and such. My question is this: if I have to do a system recovery. Will I lose that partition? Or will Windows 7 re-install on the C: drive without touching that partition?

I just inheritied an HP Pavillion Entertainment laptop P--Dv6. In checking it out all of the old files--docs pics and stuff have been deleted, however the Recovery (D) drive has only 2.19 GB free left out of 13.2 GB. The other drives are relatively empty. Does anyone know how to clean out the recovery drive of un-needed things? I have no idea what is important and what's not. While I'm here-does anyone know how to reset the username for the PC so it shows mine?

I'm weeks of spasmodic attempts into replacing my old C-drive with a new SSD and a clean install of Windows 7, 32 bit. Here's the current loop: Following Sandisk's instructions on formatting SSD for use as OS with Win 7:
1) I verify BIOS - SATA is (as before) set to ACHI
2) I place Windows 7 upgrade disc in drive, hoping to use "Option 1 - normal clean install" (from Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version )
3) I get "Windows Error Recovery" screen, stating "windows did not shut down normally" (white text on black screen), with two options - start normally, or startup repair.
- if I select "start normally," it merely returns (after a minute or two) to the same Error Recovery screen after some POSTs (nothing other than single-beep) - no request for my input, no "press any key," etc.
- if I select default ("startup repair") option load: "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" ultimately results after a lot of attempting to repair, etc.
PC will still run Ok from old HD when connected, and shows the SSD in Disk Management with a "System Reserved" 100 MB (F) partition along with a 112GB (E) partition. I keep thinking I need to wipe those and try again, but not sure how or if that's even worth trying. I did have the same SSD up and running Win 7 for a brief time - didn't start at some point afterwards...

So I made a mistake while taking on a friend's problematic sony vaio laptop. They were wanting to install a newly purchased Kaspersky av, but after uninstalling the old version of Kaspersky there was a problem with an unresponsive usb mouse & mouse pad. I wasn't able to resolve the issue through various repair programs and manually reinstalling the driver, which was giving off the error code of not being properly installed or functioning. With owners consent, I decided to let Vaio Care to bring the computer back to factory condition. (I wish the owner had the owners manual to this thing.)I made sure to backup all of the files that the owner needed saved, but failed to make any sort of backup recovery disk for the computer. Not sure if it's too late to do so, but the computer will not boot to windows any longer. I get a white blinking cursor on a black background immediately after Vaio disappears from the screen upon bootup, but cannot do anything with it. I made a windows 7 home premium iso dvd, and when booting from it I reinstalled windows onto one of the 3 partitions on the hd (the largest of the 3 which was labeled "Primary" type). Of the other two partitions, one was labeled "Primary" and was named "System Reserved" but only 101MB, and the other was labeled "System" and was named "Recovery" and is 7.7GB. When installing, the computer does a restart but then boots up from the disk again starting the entire process over again. So I changed it to boot from the HDD, but still get the same problem of a blank cursor and windows not booting up.When attempting the System Recovery Options on the Windows 7 dvd I'm given 3 different partitions (2 of which are 400+GB, labled windows 7 operating system, and located on (D: ) Local Disk). I'm guessing this might stand for the old windows 7 from the factory, and the one I installed. The other partition is 7.7GB and labeled Start VAIO Recovery Center located on (Unknown) Recovery.System Restore, System Image Recovery, and windows Memory Diagnostic aren't doing any good. Startup Repair only gives me an issue for one of the 3 Partitions, the (Recovery Partition), and states that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically, saying that the "Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline".
When going through command prompt I see that old data & drivers are still on the disc, but was wondering if it was too late to make some sort of a recovery disc for it? My concerns are that when I do a wipe of the drive and a clean install of Windows 7, I'm going to have many issues without having sony's factoryware installed. Am I able to make my own disk to reinstall Sony's factoryware? What's the best way of getting this computer back to fully functioning?I have access to the drivers on Sony's support site: Sony eSupport - VGN-FW510F - Support

I have Unallocated space at the very end of my hard drive, even after the 25gb Recovery Partition, this is due to copying my old hard drive onto this new one via Clonezilla, and it automatically keeping the unallocated space at the end. Can I either move the unallocated space around the Recovery Partition, or delete the Recovery Partition altogether? Sorry if I am being a little unclear.

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

I have problem with Windows 7 on PC computer. IT runs slowly even i turn on clasic view and turned off all effects..
WIndows installed on Sata HDD 40GB, in system there is more two HDD with 160GB and 250GB
IT runs more slowly than Windows XP before...
I thinks it could be few possibilities:
1. Previous widows xp were installed on drive D (in the same sata hdd) and when installed windows 7 on C (in the same hdd) it shows me (when boots) one more selection to choose one more OS, but when I select it nothing happens just black window and I need to reset pc and choose windows 7 to boot. Maybe this issue can be fault?
2. My Sata HDD is very old. Maybe there is problem?
3. Maybe there is old RAM's and old CPU with MB ?
Windows 7 is officiall beta release from microsoft...
In example on my HP laptop with Centrino and 1GB RAM runs perfectly with pre-beta release installed earlier. Runs default without any modifications like turning effects or smth.

Periodically I check my CPU usage especially is the system seems to be slowing down.Whether it is an hour or a day, wmplayer.exe mysteriously appears and consumes a tremendous amount of CPU time. Windows Media Player is neither on my desktop nor my taskbar and I almost never use it. I prefer using VLC Media PlayerWhen I terminate the processwmplayer.exeusing the Task Manager, it stops temporarily, about 5 seconds, and then suddenly reappears and takes over the computer again by consuming most of the CPU timeThe only way I can remove it is to restart my computer.I believe the computer is free of viruses and other infections. I use Norton 360 for anti-virus and periodically perform complete scans with both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Super Anti-Spyware Free

My system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.
I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.
So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.
I have WIN 7 x64 ultimate, I have ESET security suite and show no viruses. Problem goes away after I reboot, but returns over time.

I am a professional audio designer and I use an external audio card for performance playback, however, recently, I have started to have problems with audio dropouts because of this service.I understand that it is a networking driver, but I have never had issues with it until recently. What is more confusing is that the problem persists when I disconnect from a network and it is not in use. I am puzzled by this and since I do a lot of work in a mobile environment with my laptop,it
Why would it start doing this "out of nowhere"? also, I performed a full factory default restore on the machine including service pack and all updates. ndis.sys STILL runs at an average of 3ms.

I've 2 dvd rewriters in my pc. Both Pioneer, one oldish and one older. The both work within windows. When I select multi-boot options to run a boot disc they are both displayed to choose from. However, if I select one of them, the disc boots. If I select the other one, the command to boot is ignored and the system boots into windows - obviously ignoring the dvd device. It's the newer one which is the problem. They both used to work ok with a boot disc.

My computer every so often runs very slow, mostly noticeable when I play a game or something, When the computer runs fine all games I play run very smooth and fast, but for some reason about once a month or so my computer runs very slow for a week or 2 at a time, the game play is very choppy and runs slow. Whenever this happens the first thing I always try is restarting the computer and run my anti malware programs but they never find anything and doesn't seem to do anything about this issue. Eventually it goes back to running at a normal fast speed, but I was hoping someone could tell me why it has those slow periods.

I have been using Win 7 Professional, Backup and Restore sucessfully for almost a year where I have been backing up my computer (250Gbyte Sys Image and 150Gbyte User Folder) to a network dual RAID 2TB each hardrives. A few months ago, these backups failed to complete sucessfully, causing the computer to lock up. At first, I thought it was becuase I left the computer running for too many days but it seemed to lock up every Sun morning which is when I discovered that it coincided with my scheduled backup time. What happens is during backup, the RAM memory slowly increases until it gets into the mid 90%, the computer locks up and displays an error message, not enough memory.I have reduced my backup size from 150Gbyte to 50GByte and I still get the same result, I have completely started over with a new backup setup, selecting the network drive etc. No luck there.

for the past couple of days I have noticed that Windows Installer will suddenly, for no reason, appear and disappear within a few seconds so not long enough to see what it is actually doing!MalwareBytes had caught two viruses it thought were Malware and I let MalwareBytes remove them, Microsoft Security Essentials caught a java exploit and removed it yesterday so I'm running a SuperAntiSpyware full scan (previous scans were all full scans) to see if anything has been missed.I have Windows Update set to check for updates only and I have updated to Service Pack 1 on a 64 bit machine.I am only concerned because I have spent days, if not weeks trying to make space on my External HDD in order to create a System Image for emergencies and don't want to end up having to go back to a system image that is infected with what most likely caused me to need to restore
