So my grandpa got a new laptop for his birthday a while ago... Strong laptop, nice hardware. Can't remember the name or model though...Anyway, so he runs Windows 7, and he told me that every time when he pluggs out the charging cable, the computer shuts down. But when the cable is plugged the computer runs just okay and the battery is full.
View 7 RepliesI recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge and loaded all my usual programs on it that I used on my previous computer. I'm not positive exactly when, but currently my computer will run very fast when plugged in. Then if I unplugg it to do some work in "the office" it will continue to run just as fast and smooth. However once I replug in my computer it will run very choppy and slow and it is basically impossible to use before I restart it. Once I restart it it will run perfectly again. [code]
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I plug in or unplug my external display to my laptop, my display options no longer automatically reconfigure as they used to do. Now if I unplug the monitor, Windows acts as if it's still there, and windows that were on the monitor stay offscreen (as does the cursor, if that's where it was). I can manually move the cursor back, right-click load graphics properties and make changes OR do an F-key combo to move everything back on the laptop screen OR program a hotkey but these are all pretty annoying for one reason or another. Unfortunately this must have started happening sometime in the last two weeks--at the same time as I made a load of major computer changes.
However this did NOT include a graphics driver change (my graphics driver is current). At this point I feel it could be anything, but I'm wondering if it could be a recent BIOS update I did that HP recommended. By way of troubleshooting I did run Windows in safe mode with ONLY the "ATI Catalyst" and "AMD External Events utility" running on top of the basic services, in case a newly installed service was stealing hotplugging messages, but that didn't do anything. I've also gone exhaustively through my graphics driver settings to make sure everything there looks correct.
Every day or two, Windows 7 is REVERSE dimming on me and I can only fix it with a reboot.What I mean is, suddenly when the AC Adapter is PLUGGED IN, the screen will be DIM (Even though control panel shows it as max brightness on the slider). But then once I UNPLUG the adapter, the screen is bright like its supposed to be..For the life of me I can't figure it out, but it's driving me to the point of insanity because I keep having to reboot so often.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy C drive is failing and I need to replace it. I have software to clone the C drive but Win 7 seems to be installed on 2 drives? There are 2 drives in this system. This system started with XP and I at some point upgraded to Vista. Then a year or so ago when Win 7 came out I upgraded again. It seems some how Win 7 has used the 2 drives in the system to install. When I disconnect the old drive that was there when I installed XP, on boot I get a message that it can't find win 7 and I need to insert the Win 7 install disk to repair the system.
First, how did it use 2 drives to install it's self (win 7) and is there any way to correct this so it's only on the C drive and I can clone it and replace it?
Second, the repair option. Will this wipe everything out? If I do the repair will everything be the same except it will boot with just the C drive and I can then clone it and replace it or will it wipe everything out?
i have unplugged my computer, instead of logging off. can this cause any system file damage and the blue screen?

However, when I unplug from power the screen saturates or goes to a white screen with only the darkest colors showing up. Impossible to do anything while unplugged. booting through USB and it's quite hard to explain but at the moment what I need to know for succeeding with the installation is, is it ok to unplug the USB flash drive after the first restart during the installation? My friend just told me that after it is done expanding the files and reaches 100% and does it's first restart, I can unplug the USB and it will continue it's job as all the files are saved on the HDD now.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 (x86) today, but have found some trouble with getting a Internet Connection.
I'm using a dc-202 router. Windows doesn't detect any connections, and when going to network connections it says: Local area connections ; network cable unplugged (tho the cable IS plugged in, and my driver is up to date). My Ethernet card is a VIA Rhine II compatible fast Ethernet adapter.
I already tried to reinstall windows and to skip the router, and just connect directly to the Modem. Even then, I get an error stating: unidentified network. So when i go trough the router, i can't see any connections, when i go directly trough the modem i do get a network, although i cannot connect to the Internet). I can't go on the Internet either way.
I hope this is enough information, otherwise i have some typing to do (cant post on my own computer, or use LAN)

View 3 Replies View Relatedi've decided to try out windows 7 64bit. after fresh clean install i had an issue with drivers for my integrated network card, which i installed from CD i received when i've bought MB, which is ASUS P5B Deluxe with following network devices :
Marvell 88E8056 PCIe1x 1 Gbit/s LAN
Marvell 88E8001 PCI1x 1 Gbit/s LAN.
now i have 2 network devices displayed in device manager which appear to be working properly :
marvell yukon 88e8001/8003/8010 pci gigabit ethernet controller
marvell yukon 88e8056 pci-e ethnernet controller
and then 3 "other devices" left with yellow exclamation mark :
ethernet controller
rtl8187_wireless (i've disabled this one since i don't need wireless)
unknow device
i also have tried to install newest drivers from marvell homepage, but nothing has changed. i've also tried to setup speed on both network devices from auto to 100mb full and half duplex, but i'm still getting cable unplugged message.
i didn't play with router so far. my network was working with XP32bit without problems.
i have a feeling, this problem will disappear with 32bit release, but i'd rather try the 64bit one. is there anything i can possibly do to get rid off this problem?
LE: i've also tried to go directly with my internet cable without router, but the result is the same.
I just downloaded new drivers for my Realtek Audio and now every 20 minutes or so I'm getting a message pop up saying "You just unplugged a device from the audio jack." and for about 2 seconds audio won't work, then it will work fine. This has only happened after I downloaded the new drivers. I've checked the physical speaker connection and it's properly in there.I don't know how to get the exact name for my sound card so if that's needed please tell me how.I suspect that it might be because of some other out of date driver, if it is so I would be very grateful if you could give me links to where I could download drivers because besides this update and graphics cards updates I have no idea how to update any other drivers.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an application that establishes a socket connection w/ another application on a different machine. When this connection is disrupted (e.g., pull out network cable), I recognize this condition and take some action.
In a Windows XP 32-bit environment, this happens quickly ... in seconds.
In a Windows 7 64-bit environment, this happens slowly ... in about 5 minutes.
If I run netstat in the Windows 7 environment, the TCP connection shows established for about 5 minutes after the network cable has been unplugged. (In WXP, it changes in seconds.) I've searched the forum and have heard a few people refer to 5 minutes as being a "default" timeout value. I've also looked at the TCP spec, etc. to learn a bit more, understand it better, etc. in an attempt to find something I can configure to reduce the 5 minutes to seconds but I've not run into anything yet.
I have recently installed a new cpu cooler and tidied up my cables, I have replugged in my sata cable but now I have the no bootmgr problem, all was good before this and now I can't start windows 7.

When either is plugged directly into the router, no ethernet cable is detected. If you run either the PC or laptop through the switch first, it works just fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed network drivers, I've uninstalled and deleted the adapters and software and started from scratch. I've checked all of the setting 3 times over.
The audio from my computer completely went dead when I turned it on. The speaker icon shows the symbol with the 'X' on it and after clicking it and going through the troubleshooter it can detect no problem. I tried updating the drivers through the HP website, and uninstall/reinstalled them but it still doesn't work. I even tried rolling back the computer to a restore point but that didn't work either.
The speakers are built into my monitor and is connected through a normal audio jack (not HDMI). I normally use my headphones through a jack built into the front of the tower.My computer is a hp Pavillion Elite m9400f, Windows 7 Ultimate 64X (It also has a ATI HD Radeon 5770 graphics card; but I'm not sure if it's relevant to what might be causing this problem).
I have a Gateway model MD2614U laptop os Windows 7 home 32bit. When I unplug the headphones to use the internal speakers sometimes the laptop will switch over and sometimes it won't. When it won't switch over. I open the volumes control window and I can see the green bar going up and down with the audio source but there is no sound coming out. I have to end up closing down the program that is producing the sound then the switch over will complete and I restart the program. I also have the same problem when I plug the headphones back in, again no sound from the headphones even though I see the green bar moving. Also some programs that send and receive audio over the internet will lock up when I unplug or plug in ether the headphones and or the microphone.

(it was a multi plug that was connected to my tv, monitor and computer) When i turned my pc back on: it asked me if i wanted to repair the problem; so i clicked yes. After awhile, the computer restarted, but now it can't seem to start normally anymore, all the safe mode options work, but every time i choose to start it normally; it just goes in an infinite start up loop.It shows the hp logo, then says that it's starting up, shows a black screen with the mouse symbol showing and starts that pattern all over again.

IT runs more slowly than Windows XP before...
I thinks it could be few possibilities:
1. Previous widows xp were installed on drive D (in the same sata hdd) and when installed windows 7 on C (in the same hdd) it shows me (when boots) one more selection to choose one more OS, but when I select it nothing happens just black window and I need to reset pc and choose windows 7 to boot. Maybe this issue can be fault?
2. My Sata HDD is very old. Maybe there is problem?
3. Maybe there is old RAM's and old CPU with MB ?
Windows 7 is officiall beta release from microsoft...
In example on my HP laptop with Centrino and 1GB RAM runs perfectly with pre-beta release installed earlier. Runs default without any modifications like turning effects or smth.
Almost one month ago, I installed win x64. Working fine, no problems! All games running smooth... But when I try to install Command and Conquer Red Alert 3, the easetup.exe/autorun.exe does not start at all! Nothing on task manager or no error message either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.
I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.
So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.
I have WIN 7 x64 ultimate, I have ESET security suite and show no viruses. Problem goes away after I reboot, but returns over time.

My LAN interface reports "Cable unplugged" although the cable is inserted and working.
I have no network connection through this interface.
the onboard NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit adapter and the driver reports it is working correctly.
If i try to install the latest driver from Broadcom, Windows says I already have the latest driver installed!
Any Suggestions?
