Why Runs Slowly When I Have 2GB RAM And P4 2.8 Ghz ?

Jun 27, 2009

I have problem with Windows 7 on PC computer. IT runs slowly even i turn on clasic view and turned off all effects..

WIndows installed on Sata HDD 40GB, in system there is more two HDD with 160GB and 250GB

IT runs more slowly than Windows XP before...

I thinks it could be few possibilities:

1. Previous widows xp were installed on drive D (in the same sata hdd) and when installed windows 7 on C (in the same hdd) it shows me (when boots) one more selection to choose one more OS, but when I select it nothing happens just black window and I need to reset pc and choose windows 7 to boot. Maybe this issue can be fault?

2. My Sata HDD is very old. Maybe there is problem?

3. Maybe there is old RAM's and old CPU with MB ?

Windows 7 is officiall beta release from microsoft...

In example on my HP laptop with Centrino and 1GB RAM runs perfectly with pre-beta release installed earlier. Runs default without any modifications like turning effects or smth.

Windows 7 X64 - Uses All Available RAM, Runs Slowly

Jun 1, 2012

My system is a home built, Core I7, 8GB RAM, Radeon 560 TI with 2GB VRAM. Recently upgraded from 4GB RAM.

I was having this same issue with 4GB of RAM. After the computer has been on a bit (hour or two) the memory usage will approach 90% and upwards and things will start to run slowly. I close all active programs, kill all non-essential background programs (dropbox, steam, printer software etc). I look in my processes and no way does it all add up to nearly 8GB of memory.

So my question is, how do I get my computer to run faster? I know WIN 7 uses memory differently than XP did, and I don't care if it wants to use all the RAM, as long as it will run quickly. The problem is, it runs slowly.

I have WIN 7 x64 ultimate, I have ESET security suite and show no viruses. Problem goes away after I reboot, but returns over time.

Windows 7 Now Runs Very Slowly After Hard Shutdown?

Oct 31, 2011

I was forced to shut down my computer due to it having frozen up, whilst playing the Battlefield 3 single player. The computer crashed, and after about 5 minutes of rapidly pressing ctrl+alt+delete, and alt+tab, I decided the best way forwards was to force shut it down, by holding the shut down button. After restarting my computer, I noticed it took slightly longer to boot up. Hmm, nothing special. Then, I entered my login credentials, and after a 2-3 minute wait at the 'Welcome' screen, I was presented with a black screen, nothing more. After about 5 minutes, my cursor popped up. Oh, at least I have that. I pressed ctrl+alt+delete again, however after waiting 5 minutes for the screen to pop up, task manager simply would not open. I came back around 30 mins later, and the taskbar and my wallpaper had popped up. However, I pressed the start button to see if it would come up with the menu. Nothing. Cursor stops moving, bam. Another crash. Another forced restart.

This repeats once again, so I decide to head on into safe mode and try to go back to a restore point. Even safe mode is somewhat laggy, however it is not un-usable. After system restore is complete, nothing has changed. I still have to wait around 30 mins for the taskbar to pop up. I then tried using the repair tool you get to try if the computer doesn't start up properly. Doesn't work. My third option is to try out chkdsk, and that is happening as we speak. It has currently been going on for about 14 hrs, and found many corrupt files aparently in stage 4, however many of these files don't appear to be major. Its currently at 16% done, 205675 out of 371465 files processed.System specs wise, I have an Intel i5 460m processor @ 2.3ghz, 4GB RAM, 64bit operating system, and an ATI Mobility Radeon 5650, which I have overclocked to 650mhz core clock speeds, 950 memory clocks, from 450 - 790.

Replaced Rj45 Lan Input With A New Lan Card But Runs Very Slowly

Feb 22, 2012

My motherboard is an Asus M3A78-EM and I have been using the system with the built in lan rated at 10/100/1000 mbps. The socket seems to be going bad so I tried replacing it with another internal card. They only had two to choose from at Office Depot were rated at 10/100/ mbps. and the other which was called D-Link DGE 530T which had the same specs as the motherboard so I got it. I've tried more than one cable and it works but is much slower did I buy the wrong thing to be running straight from a Wild Blue modem or, are there some settings that can be changed to speed it up I just run the one computer. Slowly RAM Usage Has Been Going Up?

Oct 9, 2011

A month or so ago my computer was fine. Gradually, slowly RAM usage has been going up. I used to be able to run multiple aps at once, no problem. Computer has gradually slowed more and more. Can't run more than a couple aps at once without it slowing to the point it is useless. At start up with no aps launched RAM usage is 83+%. What is going on now that was not a couple months ago? I have poked around in Task Manager but do not really understand what I am seeing there. Windows 7. I updated to IE 9. I have Norton Internet Security. I have run Malwarebytes, Smart Defrag 2 and Advanced SystemCare 4.

My PC takes about 4 minutes to boot! I have tried everything possible including running xbootmgr -trace boot -prepSystem -verboseReadyBoot. Win XP never gave me the headaches I have experienced with Win7. This OS is very unstable and very sensitive to hardware specs. I remember I could not install Win7 until I changed a SATA cable while XP installed on the same machine without worries.

Windows 7 Popping Up Really Slowly?

Oct 31, 2012

I run a Windows 7 64 bit, 6GB Ram, 1 TB, 2GB nvidia card system, that I recently did a factory restore on. It has worked great for the past 2 months since I did so. Until yesterday. All of a sudden, my mouse stops working. It is a wired laser mouse, and the laser wasn't on. I changed it's usb port, and it would try to install it again, and fail. I have no idea why. So, I use my keyboard to restart my computer. The restart takes forever. It took about 6 minutes to get to the windows screen. Still, my mouse doesn't work. But also, now, I have a problem where programs seem to run fine, but if I tab between windows, they maximize/minimize to the tray very slowly. I am not noticing a decrease in performance per say in the programs. (Just played some Guild Wars 2, while running the McAfee stinger, and google Chrome with 2 tabs, with no problem, getting about 50-80 fps while in combat) I looked at my task manager, which showed nothing out of the ordinary for stuff running (AVG antivirus, Chrome, Explorer, as the big ones).I am using AVG antivirus free, which is up to date, and have never had a virus in 10+ years of using it. Scan showed nothing either. All updates from Windows Update are set. I also use msconfig to disable all programs from starting up except AVG.

Certain Programs Loading Files Very Slowly

Mar 2, 2012

I was recently having some bad video driver issues (getting frequent BSODs after updating to the latest drivers for my 560 Ti), so I did a system restore. After the restore, I'm not having any problems with that, but a new one has popped up: opening any photo or video file in Windows Photo Viewer, VLC, or MPC-HC takes a while. There's a 10-15 second delay. In the case of Windows Photo Viewer, it doesn't open the program until then. With VLC and MPC-HC, the program opens but it takes that long to load the file. I've tried this on two separate hard drives, and opening the files with other programs (such as opening a local image file using Chrome) doesn't have the same delay. I've rebooted my computer several times, rebuilt my icon cache (which has fixed some similar bugs for me before), and checked that I didn't have an issue with color calibration (which reportedly slows down Windows Photo Viewer). Scanning with MSE turned up nothing. I can't do a system restore to any other point since this was the only one before I installed the new video card drivers that gave me even worse trouble.

Programs And Files Opening Very Slowly

Starting last night, Google Chrome was taking longer than usual to open webpages. Now under an hour ago, other applications and files take up to 10 seconds to open. I did not install any software or make any hardware changes.

Computer Suddenly Running Slowly?

Mar 17, 2011

I recently started having trouble with my laptop running very slowly. I ran avg and also Spybot and they came back with no viruses or spyware. I opened the task manager and noticed that it is running at 100% CPU, and assume that is the reason for the lag. I noticed teatimer associated with Spybot S&D was taking up a lot of memory, so I uninstalled S&D and reinstalled it without the teatimer. That seemed to speed it up slightly, but it is still running slow, particularly when trying to play videos or opening programs needing java. I also ran PC tools registry mechanic to scan the registry, clean up the disks and registry, and defrag the registry, but not getting any faster. Looking at the processes in the task manager, the two that are using up the most CPU seem to be connected to my Belkin Router (which I have been using without this problem for several months)kbackupscheduler.exe and Connect.exe go back and forth between 47% CPU and 50% CPU each.consequences of stopping (or removing) them would be

New (-ish) Windows 7 HP Laptop Running Slowly

Oct 16, 2011

I have a relatively new HP dvt6 pavilion laptop (quad core intel i7, 8gb of ram), and I've noticed that in the past few months it's gradually gotten slower. Granted, it's still way faster than my old laptop, but I know I likely have more things running than I should. In fact, my process explorer shows no less than 104 processes running, and I would really like to trim this down to about 40 or so. I looked through the msconfig services, but not too much jumped out at me that should be disabled, so I was hoping the wonderful people in these forums could help me out. I've run HijackThis and my log is as follows. I welcome any and all advice about what I should disable or remove with HijackThis or with msconfig.

New Install Of Windows 7 Running Very Slowly?

My wifes machine has been running increasingly slowly, and I thought that I would reinstall the OS, and take the opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP. I carried out the analysis and the results suggested that it would be OK to upgrade.I have done the upgrade, and in a system that has the bare OS and nothing more, it is running agonisingly slowly - can anyone suggest what I should do to find out why? It could be that the system is not powerful enough to operate - it has the following:

143GB storage (97GB free after the install)
Intel Celeron 2.93 Ghz chip

Search Redirecting And Websites Started Loading Slowly

Dec 9, 2012

As a former Linux user, I didn't think about installing any virus protection software when I first bought my current laptop (Samsung R580) that runs on Windows 7 Home Premium. My laptop was fine for the first 6-8 months until I some strange things started happening. When I would Google something and click on a search result, I would be redirected to a website trying to sell me things. A friend of mine did some research, and told me my laptop had something called a "click jacker". We found a work-around. Then, I was primarily using Google Chrome as my browser of choice until it started loading websites slowly and then not at all. I switched to Mozilla Firefox for a while until it started behaving the same way. Now, I am using IE which is working great, but what do I do when the same thing happens to this web browser? I would really like to start fresh, but I have never attempted anything like that before.
