I have a Toshiba Satellite C650-17Z laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I came across a problem today with the computer taking 2-3 minutes on the "Starting Windows" boot screen alone, but since it has finally gotten past that process applications are taking absolutely ages to load up, and stop responding when they finally do load up.
I attempted a Startup Repair and Memory Diagnostic - the Memory Diagnostic came out fine, but the Startup Repair explained that this could be a problem with a recently installed driver.
I recently uninstalled some MSXML and SQL Server bits and bobs which I thought were unnecessary

For a very long time now, my computer would slowly freeze for a few minutes. For example: If Im watching something on vlc, it would freeze. I can still use other programs but one by one they would freeze too. The mouse still moves. 2 or 3 minutes after everything has froze, they all start working again.

I recently started having trouble with my laptop running very slowly. I ran avg and also Spybot and they came back with no viruses or spyware. I opened the task manager and noticed that it is running at 100% CPU, and assume that is the reason for the lag. I noticed teatimer associated with Spybot S&D was taking up a lot of memory, so I uninstalled S&D and reinstalled it without the teatimer. That seemed to speed it up slightly, but it is still running slow, particularly when trying to play videos or opening programs needing java. I also ran PC tools registry mechanic to scan the registry, clean up the disks and registry, and defrag the registry, but not getting any faster. Looking at the processes in the task manager, the two that are using up the most CPU seem to be connected to my Belkin Router (which I have been using without this problem for several months)kbackupscheduler.exe and Connect.exe go back and forth between 47% CPU and 50% CPU each.consequences of stopping (or removing) them would be

1) Why does having many installed applications cause a computer (PC) to run more slowly?
2) Does this also happen if the programs are installed as portable?
3) Do portable programs run equally as efficient as installed programs?

i was looking at a Internet video of how to use hjt and it said to checkmark everything and hit fix; my computer was running perfectly fine 2 weeks ago with games running at 30 fps and really little lag but suddenly has been running extremely slow with long wait times and 2 fps so i decided to follow the video. after hitting fix everything my computer seems to be running a bit better but i'm not exactly sure if anything has been fixed. now my concern is: should i restore back to before i 'fixed' everything?

My laptop has been running extremely slowly lately. It takes longer than usual to load regular programs and any web browser activity takes ages. I have run malware (Malwarebytes) and virus scans (Microsoft Security Essentials) and removed some items. Malwarebytes didn't detect much, but I found a trojan with Security Essentials. However, after removal my problems persist. I have scanned and attempted recovery of bad sectors. Issues were found and fixed, but a disk check was said to be necessary. I tried running chkdsk c: /F, but the disk check cancelled within a fraction of a second on startup.

Background: I use my computer for 2 reasons. One is for general (internet, MS office, etc...) The other is for serious Digital Audio recording using Cakewalk Sonar and 100's of plugins and effects. My xp systems I have always dual booted xp with xp. One for fun and one for music. XP system for music was tweaked and optimized for music (no internet, no email etc.)
My Problem. I bought the Family pack (3 Pc's) upgrade knowing that I would install at least 2 versions of Win 7 on my computer.
My first installation (Sunday) went fine and was installed on the 500 GB HD. Startup was fast. On Monday night I bought another HD (750 GB) and installed another version of Win 7 on the new harddrive for my music stuff. It was working fine. 2 new versions of Win 7 on new brand new sepatate HD's.
Yesterday (Tuesday), I got home and booted up to Win 7 Music system and was told to run chkdsk which it does and noticed the startup was much slower once it rebooted. So I try to install some of my music programs and I get an error that the file system is now corrupt. I cannot install programs or even copy things from another drive to that partition. When I tried to install programs another thing that popped up was an error about finding something in the Temp directory. I ran chkdsk 3 times and it did not fix the problem.
Appartently my 2nd version of Windows 7 has been corrupted. Or the file system has been corrupted. I can run the few programs I installed on Monday night but I can not install new ones. Has anyone installed two working versions of Win 7 on the same computer (separate partitions) and run into any problems? Any ideas? With the power of Win 7 and my new computer do I even have to worry about separate operating systems for General Use and Music Use?

Im trying to install a new hard drive for my friends computer. I have a working Windows 7 boot disk, I've used it on my desktop I built as well as just checked using my laptop. It booted up fine the first time but I think it went wrong some how and all that popped up were weird symbols. Now every time I try booting it up again the "push any key to boot from CD" prompt is displayed and even though I push enter immediately the screen just goes blank to black. Sometimes it has a blinking white line on the top left corner.Ive tested both the hard drive and the cd on my laptop and everything runs fine.

Okay, I turn on my computer, and after four seconds it shuts off, then 4 seconds later, it shuts off, etc. Then after this process repeats itself for about 4 times, it will take a long time (~5-10 minutes) to show the computer manufacturer logo. Then after that, another ~2 minutes to show the Windows logo, then ~5 minutes to show the user account selection screen. I tried taking out the RAM, leaving one stick in, and then booting it up. It worked, so I am currently in the process of replacing the RAM (I now have 1GB instead of 2). But after a while, it got worse. I have no idea what to do know, and I really need this computer for work.

I have recently run into some issues on my machine that runs Windows 7. I can't run Windows Media Player; it just says the file name and then "Server Execution Failed".
I was advised to go into safe mode and type a command into cmd. However, safe mode would not work. At first I thought it was an F8 problem, so I was advised to go into msconfig > boot and change the system to boot into safe mode. I did that to find that safe mode gets into the driver loading screen and stops at windowssystem32driversClassPnP.sys and seems to load.
It shows the cursor, but then disappears and my computer reboots. However, since my computer is set to load into safe mode, it constantly tries to log into safe mode, which doesn't seem to work, so it just restarts, tries to go into safe mode, but can't, so it restarts again, going through the process again and again.
I have tried pressing "Delete" key at the beginning of boot up, but it does not show any thing else I can boot from. When I do get the F8 thing working, I select "Boot Windows Normally" but it just goes straight to the bootup of safemode.
I have an Acer Aspire M3800 that only has the factory restore discs that Acer eRecovery Management has asked me to make when I first bought my computer. I obtained Windows 7 through the "free upgrade" program Acer is running.

This is what I am attempting...I want some time to learn Win 7's ins and outs...before committing to it. I know how to dual boot...don't want that. If I set up like this image, will I be able to use the F8 boot menu to choose the HDD I wish to boot from...or will I just have to disconnect the XP drives and only connect the Win 7 drive. I want to keep the MBR's totally separate.
I see THREE possibilities:
1. F8 will work and just not SEE the other Windows install...which is fine.
2. F8 will work and Win 7 will try to take over all three drives.
3. F8 will work, but when booted to the Win 7 HDD, will wreak havoc with the drivers, IF it sees the other install.

When I try to boot my windows 7, it fails and a blue screen appears, stating that the error message "Stop: 0xed". I try to repair windows, but it fails. So, I reinstall my windows 7. And it works fine in several days, but the blue screen occurs again. I have encountered this situation several times. Reinstall, blue screen, reinstall.I found that before the blue screen occurs, my computer shut down normally.

So after managing to get windows to repair itself: Boot Manager missing. I restarted the computer and now it hangs on "Starting Windows". This happens when trying to boot from CD/ DVD and the HDD. My Windows 7 install disk has no scratches and I can load it in another computer. Also I can boot off other CDs (like Linux perfectly).

Recently, my computer has been behaving quite oddly. It hasn't been booting up, but hasnt given any error messages. When I try to boot, it will open up to a black screen where the Starting Windows stuff is supposed to appear, but nothing will happen. I'll restart it a bunch of times, and eventually I'll get one where the words Starting Windows are there, but still nothing happens. If it offers me the option to load the repair program, it will open the screen that says windows is loading the files with the loading bar at the bottom, but nothing will load. It takes anywhere from 10 to 30 restarts before i'll seemingly just get lucky and it will turn on.Also, I've been freezing lately while playing BF3. My video card drivers are up to date, along with the other main drivers. Sometimes, I'll get a BSOD if I wait long enough, but it doesnt ususally happen. Also, when starting, sometimes when it says on the boot screen "Verifying DMI pool data", nothing will happen, and then it will suddenly say: Disk read error, press cntrl + alt + delete to restart. This leads me to believe that it's a disk error, which explains a lot of the symptoms i've been having lately, but I just dont know where to start the diagnosis.

Whenever I connect to my wireless internet, be it when booting up the computer or changing to it via the modem cables, it refuses to work. The only way it works is if I click on the network computer in the bottom right corner and then troubleshoot for a couple mins, until the computer automatically fixes the problem. Im guessing a service or something isn't working.Ive tried buying new modem to wireless modem cables but still no luck. Obviously using Windows 7 (Ultimate)

A month or so ago my computer was fine. Gradually, slowly RAM usage has been going up. I used to be able to run multiple aps at once, no problem. Computer has gradually slowed more and more. Can't run more than a couple aps at once without it slowing to the point it is useless. At start up with no aps launched RAM usage is 83+%. What is going on now that was not a couple months ago? I have poked around in Task Manager but do not really understand what I am seeing there. Windows 7. I updated to IE 9. I have Norton Internet Security. I have run Malwarebytes, Smart Defrag 2 and Advanced SystemCare 4.

My PC takes about 4 minutes to boot! I have tried everything possible including running xbootmgr -trace boot -prepSystem -verboseReadyBoot. Win XP never gave me the headaches I have experienced with Win7. This OS is very unstable and very sensitive to hardware specs. I remember I could not install Win7 until I changed a SATA cable while XP installed on the same machine without worries.

I have problem with Windows 7 on PC computer. IT runs slowly even i turn on clasic view and turned off all effects..
WIndows installed on Sata HDD 40GB, in system there is more two HDD with 160GB and 250GB
IT runs more slowly than Windows XP before...
I thinks it could be few possibilities:
1. Previous widows xp were installed on drive D (in the same sata hdd) and when installed windows 7 on C (in the same hdd) it shows me (when boots) one more selection to choose one more OS, but when I select it nothing happens just black window and I need to reset pc and choose windows 7 to boot. Maybe this issue can be fault?
2. My Sata HDD is very old. Maybe there is problem?
3. Maybe there is old RAM's and old CPU with MB ?
Windows 7 is officiall beta release from microsoft...
In example on my HP laptop with Centrino and 1GB RAM runs perfectly with pre-beta release installed earlier. Runs default without any modifications like turning effects or smth.
