I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?
When I have several new devices, for example device1, device2, device3, windows starts to search drivers for all three devices simultaneously.it looks like:evice1 searchingdevice2 searchingdevice3 searchingnd it searches up to four devices in parallel (as far as I noticed). Is there some way to change this behaviour?I need windows to search driver for one device at a time. and start to search for next device only after first device driver setup complete. and so on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe title might be a bit weird, but i wasn't sure how to phrase it. I'll try and describe our problem:Basically what we want to do is to use the windows 7 search function, without knowing what letter our USB device has been given (i.e. D:, F: etc). Say I've named my storage device "Hello", now i'd like to search for "Hello" and the content should be popping up (like when i write D: and i see all the content in D: without going there manually). Is this possible, or are we simply wasting our time?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHave recently purchased a small usb inspection snake camera with led light and when testing it plugged it into two desktops computers (one xp pro not sure of the other as it was a network work computer) It automatically loaded the drivers and brought up a screen automatically with the realtime image.(no driver disc came with it). However plugging into my windows 7 64bit sony laptop it signals a connection beep, loaded drivers automatically but wouldn't open or show up on my computer disc manager as an external usb source to click on. It does however show up on device manager as a usb camera and when I unplug and replug in it disappears and reappears so I know I have the right camera (not the lap top webcam inbuilt one that shows USB 2 Camera). Have tried updating drivers automatically and uninstalling it etc. Need it to work on the lap top so it can act as the movable screen for it?
View 29 Replies View RelatedI had a explorer window open, not sure which location but I closed in in a hurry and right before I noticed a folder I have been looking for. When I use the search function, it does not pull everything. I have readjusted the settings in there as advised before, but it still doesn't search everywhere. For example, I have things on my desktop, and if I type in the name, it doesn't appear.
So, how do I do a complete file name search for everything on my computer?
My problem is when I go into computer (my computer) the search in the top right isn't working from within this window! However if I click to go into an individual drive the search will then work from within there on the individual drive. At first it told me the index had been switched off, so I turned it back on even rebuilt the index. & its still the same except it doesn't tell me about the index when I try to search anymore.
It will still search within the individual drives but not from within the computer window. Apart from this the installation works fine. I even run a scan with Kaspersky & Spybot S&D to make sure of any nasties causing it. & run a CHkdisk this morning. I would rather not have to perform a system restore or new installation. It took me ages to install all my apps & don't fancy doing it again.
i recently built my computer and it has four hard drives, a new SSD, and three HDDs all taken out from my old computers. when i open my start menu and type something in only the results from the SSD will come up, how do i fix this, also all my old HDDs still have their operating system on the i never bothered working out how get rid of them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a program to help me edit some DVD menu's and this Babylon Search function was downloaded with it. It created add-on's and made my computer do things that were not desirable. I uninstalled it but found it to be still lingering on my computer in the add-on sections of browsers. Ever since I downloaded the program and got the "Babylon Search" with it I have found that my computer is running really slow. It also shows up in Internet Explorer when I click to open a new tab. It comes up right away and seems to be mimicking the Google Search layout only it says Babylon in the top right of the screen...

View 9 Replies View RelatedBackground: I use my computer for 2 reasons. One is for general (internet, MS office, etc...) The other is for serious Digital Audio recording using Cakewalk Sonar and 100's of plugins and effects. My xp systems I have always dual booted xp with xp. One for fun and one for music. XP system for music was tweaked and optimized for music (no internet, no email etc.)
My Problem. I bought the Family pack (3 Pc's) upgrade knowing that I would install at least 2 versions of Win 7 on my computer.
My first installation (Sunday) went fine and was installed on the 500 GB HD. Startup was fast. On Monday night I bought another HD (750 GB) and installed another version of Win 7 on the new harddrive for my music stuff. It was working fine. 2 new versions of Win 7 on new brand new sepatate HD's.
Yesterday (Tuesday), I got home and booted up to Win 7 Music system and was told to run chkdsk which it does and noticed the startup was much slower once it rebooted. So I try to install some of my music programs and I get an error that the file system is now corrupt. I cannot install programs or even copy things from another drive to that partition. When I tried to install programs another thing that popped up was an error about finding something in the Temp directory. I ran chkdsk 3 times and it did not fix the problem.
Appartently my 2nd version of Windows 7 has been corrupted. Or the file system has been corrupted. I can run the few programs I installed on Monday night but I can not install new ones. Has anyone installed two working versions of Win 7 on the same computer (separate partitions) and run into any problems? Any ideas? With the power of Win 7 and my new computer do I even have to worry about separate operating systems for General Use and Music Use?
Im trying to install a new hard drive for my friends computer. I have a working Windows 7 boot disk, I've used it on my desktop I built as well as just checked using my laptop. It booted up fine the first time but I think it went wrong some how and all that popped up were weird symbols. Now every time I try booting it up again the "push any key to boot from CD" prompt is displayed and even though I push enter immediately the screen just goes blank to black. Sometimes it has a blinking white line on the top left corner.Ive tested both the hard drive and the cd on my laptop and everything runs fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOkay, I turn on my computer, and after four seconds it shuts off, then 4 seconds later, it shuts off, etc. Then after this process repeats itself for about 4 times, it will take a long time (~5-10 minutes) to show the computer manufacturer logo. Then after that, another ~2 minutes to show the Windows logo, then ~5 minutes to show the user account selection screen. I tried taking out the RAM, leaving one stick in, and then booting it up. It worked, so I am currently in the process of replacing the RAM (I now have 1GB instead of 2). But after a while, it got worse. I have no idea what to do know, and I really need this computer for work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently run into some issues on my machine that runs Windows 7. I can't run Windows Media Player; it just says the file name and then "Server Execution Failed".
I was advised to go into safe mode and type a command into cmd. However, safe mode would not work. At first I thought it was an F8 problem, so I was advised to go into msconfig > boot and change the system to boot into safe mode. I did that to find that safe mode gets into the driver loading screen and stops at windowssystem32driversClassPnP.sys and seems to load.
It shows the cursor, but then disappears and my computer reboots. However, since my computer is set to load into safe mode, it constantly tries to log into safe mode, which doesn't seem to work, so it just restarts, tries to go into safe mode, but can't, so it restarts again, going through the process again and again.
I have tried pressing "Delete" key at the beginning of boot up, but it does not show any thing else I can boot from. When I do get the F8 thing working, I select "Boot Windows Normally" but it just goes straight to the bootup of safemode.
I have an Acer Aspire M3800 that only has the factory restore discs that Acer eRecovery Management has asked me to make when I first bought my computer. I obtained Windows 7 through the "free upgrade" program Acer is running.
This is what I am attempting...I want some time to learn Win 7's ins and outs...before committing to it. I know how to dual boot...don't want that. If I set up like this image, will I be able to use the F8 boot menu to choose the HDD I wish to boot from...or will I just have to disconnect the XP drives and only connect the Win 7 drive. I want to keep the MBR's totally separate.
I see THREE possibilities:
1. F8 will work and just not SEE the other Windows install...which is fine.
2. F8 will work and Win 7 will try to take over all three drives.
3. F8 will work, but when booted to the Win 7 HDD, will wreak havoc with the drivers, IF it sees the other install.
After i installed my HD6970 and formatted my computer, I have been experiencing something quite frustrating about my boot.

It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.

If so where do I start from.I tried by going to Computer from the Start menu then selecting the C: drive but was wondering if that done a full search of the other drives.
Recently, my computer has been behaving quite oddly. It hasn't been booting up, but hasnt given any error messages. When I try to boot, it will open up to a black screen where the Starting Windows stuff is supposed to appear, but nothing will happen. I'll restart it a bunch of times, and eventually I'll get one where the words Starting Windows are there, but still nothing happens. If it offers me the option to load the repair program, it will open the screen that says windows is loading the files with the loading bar at the bottom, but nothing will load. It takes anywhere from 10 to 30 restarts before i'll seemingly just get lucky and it will turn on.Also, I've been freezing lately while playing BF3. My video card drivers are up to date, along with the other main drivers. Sometimes, I'll get a BSOD if I wait long enough, but it doesnt ususally happen. Also, when starting, sometimes when it says on the boot screen "Verifying DMI pool data", nothing will happen, and then it will suddenly say: Disk read error, press cntrl + alt + delete to restart. This leads me to believe that it's a disk error, which explains a lot of the symptoms i've been having lately, but I just dont know where to start the diagnosis.
